Question BEST Sunset/Romantic Dinner

I would like to surprise my husband with a nice sunset dinner (with no kids) while we are in Aruba next week. We have NEVER done this before, so of course I would like for it to be spectacular! It is a rare occasion...so where would you suggest? And Why?

Thanks for all the help!

I Love Aruba Re: BEST Sunset/Romantic Dinner

We Have Been To Sunset Bistro And Found It Great. Tables Actuallly Sit In Sand About 10' From Water. Get Reservationa For About 6-6:15 As Sunset Is Around 7:00 . Food Is Fine, But View Is Unbelievable. Bring Your Camera!

For a first timer, I highly recommend Flying Fishbone. You sit at tables on the sand, hanging your shoes underneath them. The food is good, the view is fantastic, and the evening sure to be memorable. Very romantic setting, and intimate - only a handful of tables...

I agree with Kevin. The Flying Fishbone will offer everything you're looking for. However, you'll need a rental car as the cab ride would be very expensive. If you're not renting a car for your stay, it will still be cheaper to rent a car for a day than to take a cab.

The restaurant idea is great.

But my wife thought this was the best. I got a couple bottles of champagne and some shrimp, crackers, and cheese. Went over to the beach and set up a table with a candle and chairs under the stars and full moon .
We sat there for about 3 hours, just the two of us.

EBB, that is a nice idea!

Carol, we always rent a car, we like the convenience of being able to come and go as we please in our own car.

Any other suggestions?

I agree with the people who said the Flying Fishbone...doesn't get much better than that.

I concur - was just there last Thursday night. In fact, my avatar is of my wife and I at the FF. It has now become our favorite restaurant on the planet.

Wink Re: BEST Sunset/Romantic Dinner

We just got back from our 3rd Aruba trip. I wanted to add a few suggestions to consider depending on how much you want to spend:
Marina Pirata - this was our first dinner here. It's a bit of a drive but worth it. I'm really surprised I don't hear more about this restaurant, which I enjoyed as much or even more than the Flying Fishbone. Sunset dinner is on a dock rather than the beach. Food was great and not too expensive.

Flying Fishbone - we've been there twice and would recommend it highly. Last Valentine's Day we ordered the carte blanche meal, which means you leave it up to the chef to decide what you are eating. It was fun because you never know what you'll be served next and of course it was all delicious.

Marandi's - another amazing beach restaurant. They offer a dish called the "menage a trois" (I think it had lobster, shrimp and scallops)- we couldn't help but giggle about it and our Dutch waitress said everyone laughs but she doesn't know why.

Le Dome on the Ocean - this is dinner on the Palm Pleasure catamaran. Great food from Le Dome, beautiful views, lots of champagne and cocktails. We brought friends with us and had a blast. Runs about a $100 a person and is booked through DePalm Tours on Thursdays.

Tranquilo Sunset Dinner Sail for Two - this is pricier and will run a few hundred dollars. We did this 2 years ago and we still have great memories so it was worth every dollar! Capt Anthony prepares you a dinner of your choice - we had lobster, shrimp scampi, and fish and a huge bottle of wine that I couldn't imagine anyone would finish - but we did! Amazing views and a fun crew.

Hyatt's Pampered in Paradise - a secluded dinner for 2 on the beach surrounded by tiki torches and your personal waiter. Expensive like the Tranquilo sail but again worth it if you don't mind spending a few hundred dollars for a special occasion. You can even request a guitarist, flowers or other items for a surprise. We did this last year and my husband said it was the highlight of the trip. Our friends who came with us on this year's trip were celebrating a special anniversary so we surprised them with this dinner and it was so worth it! We stay at the Marriott in Aruba but we make arrangements in advance of the trip by calling Hyatt's room service staff.

One other option that I haven't tried yet but is on my "to do" list is a picnic through the Hyatt. They allow you to check out a picnic basket, blanket and Coleman lantern for a picnic on the beach. You select the gourmet goodies and wine to go with it. Price varies on how expensive your tastes are.

There are so many great choices in Aruba - you can't go wrong! Have fun! Weimaraner

Hubby is mad I waited too long to decide if I wanted to go yesterday and the boss gave them to someone else. It WAS my anniversary, sheesh, not my idea of a way to spend it! He just called and got tickets for next Sunday. It is Easter, hello? But since I am seeing my family on Saturday, off I will go on Sunday to the Met game! I hope they keep it up! Do you still go at all?

I buy tickets for 2 games a year at the new stadium in Philly - it is much closer than Shea and a hell of a lot nicer. Just have to put up with those 2nd city Philly fans - but it is their town. Many years (at the Vet) - it seemed as though there were more Mets fans than Phillies fans! I do it more for my son who is 10 - I've been to more than my share of games - especially 7th game of the '86 series!

You went to the 7th game of the 86 series?? Wow! BTW, the Mets and the Yankees have made agreements with the city to build new stadiums. I think the new Shea (which will have a corporate name, of course) is scheduled to be done by 2009.
