Default Don Carlo's

My wife and I were in Aruba last May and went to Don Carlo's one day. It was around 2:00 pm.....we were shopping in town and got hungry. We were seated immediately and the food and service were great.

We'll be in Aruba this May coming (yeah!). We want to go to Don Carlo's again, only in the evening this time....like 7'ish. Do you think we'll need to make reservations? I have to believe it's much busier in the evening.

Thanks!

Mark

Mark... it's always better to make reservations... Try to do a Friday or Saturday night when they have a singer there between 8 and 10 who's great. Ask for a table near the water. It's never that busy unless cruise ships are in and you can always get a table without a reservation.... but why not get the nicest spot?

My Hubby has to eat at Don Carlos at least twice while we are there. The service has always been great as well as the food. I have read where other people do not like Don Carlos, but we have never had a bad experience there. We do in the low season and never have any trouble. Just wanted to add my two cents in about this place.

You're right Suzie... when I've eaten there, I've never had a bad meal!

Suzie... the veal sambucca is the best! Although I usually have some type of seafood and spaghetti dish, one of my friends never misses the veal... tells me his mouth waters for it all year long! Different strokes for different folks, huh??

My husband and I eat there at least 2x's every trip. We love it!!! Took the kids there last November and Mitch the singer was there and we all had a ball. They couldn't wait to go back (unfortunately Mitch was not performing any other night during our stay). They have always made us feel so special and have always gotten a table right at watersedge without even asking. Our favorite waiter is Sonny...he's a pip!! We have also never made reservations but it is always a good idea. This is one of those restaurants that is not usually on anyones trip reports or restaurant reveiws and I still can't understand why. We've had nothing but wonderful meals and a great time at Don Carlos'.

Elizabeth.... it is a fun night. We usually go on Fridays or Saturdays when the singer is there... thought his name was Lloyd. After a few drinks, everybody starts dancing with everybody else!! This past year there was a table of about 15 people who were into singing and dancing... I was literally exhausted when I left there!!

Is is possible they have more than one? I think we went on a Saturday night. And to be totally honest...the kids called him Mitch but I never heard him say it! He heard me call my mother by her first name and all night he kept singing to "Rosie"...then he dragged the kids up and danced and sang with them. He was very entertaining. Our table was directly behind him so we got all the attention. He's a very dark skinned man about 60 i'd say. I think the machine did most of the singing...but he was great anyway! We also love their sangria. They make it to order, Yummmmmy!

sounds like the same guy, Elizabeth... he's been there for many years and it is Lloyd. You guys had the best table!!! That's my favorite one!! That machine always fascinated me and one night I asked what it was. He inserts a certain type of disc(forgot the name) that has background music and chorus when necessary, but he does all the singing. I think lots of entertainers on the island use them. He certainly gets the crowd moving!! Their seabreezes are also very good and potent.... a few of those and total mellow!!!! lol

Where is Don Carlos??Our friends stayed at the Ren last year and I am wondering if this is the restaraunt we passed at night that was right on the water, open air(maybe a boat but I am not sure). They would put up a sign with the nightly specials on it and it always smelled yummy when walking by there. Is it mainly Italian food(my hubby doesnt like italian food )but if there is something else there to eat maybe I could talk him into it.I love italian food.I remember the lady from the waterfront crabhouse buggin us every day to come in and eat-really turned me off on that place but Don Carlos sounds like fun.

Jayed,

Yes that is the place...the food is mostly Italian but I do believe they have other dishes. It is just the greatest! service, food, ambiance and a great location.

They have lots of other dishes... chicken, fish, great soup. But remember that without the singer, it's just another restaurant. That's why you have to do Friday or Saturday. Geeez, we sound like a commercial for Don Carlos!! lol

I will most definately be there as well on the 20th! Since my week is Sat-Sat we will probably go the first night and last night! So that will be the 14th and the 20th! I can't wait also...I need a vacation soooooo bad!!!

And yes, they have lots of other things to eat there...I love their salads. 2 of my kids had their Chix Ceasar and loved it. But their regular garden salad with house dressing is sooo refreshing.
