Default Drinking

Are they strict about 18 being the legal drinking age? My mother was wondering!

A female Bartender at LaCabana told me that if I gave her permission to serve one of my children (16 or 17 year olds) then she has to. I thought this was very strange. She said that I am their guardian and she would listen to me. OF COURSE I WOULD NEVER EVER GIVE PERSMISSION!!!

My daughter has never been proofed at LaCabana! Unfortunately, she always looked older than she is. I caught her and her friend last year, when she was 16, more than once at Happy Hour!

Keep in mind, most places will be happy to make you the same frozen drink without liquor.

Why do I get the feeling your Mother isn't the only one wondering if they're strict? My wife looks very young, and gets carded here often - in all our trips to Aruba she has not been carded yet. Me - they just congratulate me on having such a beautiful daughter

At least you're not too proud to share that!

April - I believe it is supposed to be 18 but they are very lax about it.

The current legal drinking age in Aruba is 16. However, any resort/bar/restaurant can choose to set the age higher.

If you take sports out of the equation I pretty much have no pride at all - I know my place, I know how lucky I am, and I am a happy happy man!

16??? Yikes! I'm glad Jamie didn't know that! I don't think AR's mom wants to hear that.

Corrine we have friends in Aruba who have a daughter. When she turned 16, she was legally able to go to the clubs and drink. Lucky for them she had a good head on her shoulders and never abused it. She's a nice young lady now.

One thing we found interesting is that she could drink at 16, but couldn't get her license to drive until she was 18. Our friends have told us that the goverment is looking to raise the drinking age to 18, but nothing has passed yet.

Some of the attractions like Kukoo Kunuku and Tattoo keep the age limit at 18. You'll also find that a lot of the bars in the resorts use 18 as their age. However, they all can legally serve anyone 16 years old.

Carol - Now I know why they did not proof her at LaCabana. To be honest, I let her have one a day, or else I figured she would sneak behind my back worse. Also, she is not a partier here at home so I trusted her.
I do remember I was not allowed to bring her on the Kukoo Kunuku, which was just as well. I was able to leave her with a staff member (baby sitter) at LaCabana.

I can think of worse things that have been said to me, so I'll accept that from a fellow Beaner. See you on the beach...

See Corrine - if you'd just jump on the Sox bandwagon, you could insult me all day!

donnie - It's not that we take baseball so seriously, as it is fun to insult the rival team(s). The Red Sox give us so much material to work with.............

Corrine - It is Pirates vs. Yankees today at 1:30. Who do you think will win? My guess is the Yankees.

Corrine - I can say for the first time that the Pirates didn't lose to the Yankees. Is it time for a World Series prediction? h
