Default How About Renewing Vows?

Anyone ever renew their vows in Aruba (or anywhere else for that matter)? I'd like to surprise my hubby when we go in September with a vow renewal ceremony (he'll DEFINITELY be surprised!) Sherry advised me to click on the wedding link, which I did. The wedding planner does do anniversary specials, but I was wondering if they were the only ones on the island who do that sort of thing....

What a great idea. If I was married, that would be a cool gift. I'm tucking that idea away.

That's a very nice idea, I'm sure you'll surprise him! If we hadn't just gotten married last year I'd be doing the same thing - I figure we should wait at least 5 years before renewing? Speaking of which, this will be our first anniversary - what's the formal custom for 1st anniversary gifts? I know I'll do something special either way, but I want to be prepared in case she's expecting something in particular (pearls, gold, diamonds, etc)($$$)

I believe the modern day gift is Paper and the older one is a Clock or something like that!

Paper could be Plane Tickets, Gift Cert to fav. spa, etc, or good old Cash (how impersonal). I like the plane tickets idea.

I already bought her ticket to Aruba for our anniversary, does that count?? She refuses to travel w/o me, so buying her a ticket somewhere doesn't accomplish much in the way of a gift, it's more of a natural act during the course of our travel planning. I got her a spa package for Valentines Day that she LOVED, so maybe that's the direction I'll go - cost about the same for a ticket to Aruba too!! = = . Sigh...

Kevin, I think you're right on the mark - paper is the traditional gift for your 1 year anniversary, and I believe that since airplane tickets are paper, you'll be giving the PERFECT gift you possibly can!

Well...since I got her that beautiful bracelet on our trip there last year, it sounds like I'm really ahead of the game! Suzy and Elisa, I agree with you - what better gift than to put her butt in a seat on a plane next to me, bound for Aruba?! And Elaine - pearls gold AND diamonds??? I gotta be able to afford the tix back home too, you know

I stopped being Materialistic years ago. Don't laugh ladies, its true. I so prefer to go on a vacation. I have more jewlery then wrists, fingers, necks, ear lobes, etc. Most of my stuff collects dust now! When we bought our t/s we vowed not to give each other "expensive" gifts for X-mas, B'days and Anniversary. We'd would rather go to Aruba 2x's a year...which we've accomplished since.

Kevin, being a new bride she might expect something spectacular, but a hallmark is good for me.!

P.S. 1st kid starting college in Sept. Lets see if we can still go 2x's/yrly.

Elaine I was joking, I know you were trying to help. Elisa, you've got the right idea - we said the same thing about gifts, but that hasn't stopped either one of us...yet. Hopefully we can level off into a comfort zone soon...

Kevin-I have been married 25 years and have never gotten an anniversary present in all those years until we took our trip to Aruba for our 25th. We always went out for a special dinner but no gifts-not necessary-I hate to shop and so does he would rather spend the time together.

I know Kevin..... I was joking, too! For me a card was sufficient.... As long as we were together, who could ask for anything else!!
