Question Airport Question

Is there anyplace to wait at the airport? Our neice will be arriving at 1:30pm & we won't arrive until 4:20pm & we are trying to decide if we should have her wait there or just take the bus to LaCabana & wait for us at the pool bar. Any suggestions????

Once you pick up your luggage, you are basically out the door. I think I would rather wait for you at a pool bar instead of an airport. Maybe she can make the dinner reservations for that night.

I agree! The door to go out is right at baggage - no where comfortable to wait. Why not take a cab to LaCabana where she can relax? Just make sure she has the $15-17 handy.

I don't know if there is a direct bus. She would have to take a bus to the main terminal in town and then the bus up to the hotels.

I agree also, the niece should take a taxi to LaCabana, have the bellhop hold her luggage and scoot right on through to the pool bar and sip herself a nice exotic drink while waiting for the rest of you to arrive. The people on this BB are correct, no comfortable place to wait at the airport and if she did it would be out in the hot Aruba sun. I vote for taxi and drink!!!!

Question Re: Airport Question

One more question. Can't she pay to get on one of those busses for the tours, you know the ones that wait at the airport for those who have the transfers?
This will be the first time we are travelling to Aruba without a package deal so I don't know how that works. I am just full of stupid questions, aren't I?????

Hookedonaruba,
First, this niece will be forever grateful for your taking her on this trip to Aruba.
Second, I still vote for her taking a Taxi because if she gets on one of those buses it takes about an hour or so to finally get to LaCabana and the bus is not air-conditioned. Been there-done that. It is a pain in the Arse!!! The bus stops at every resort in both High Rise and Low Rise resort areas.
Give her the $18 Taxi fare, it is well worth it!!!!! And while she is waiting for the rest of you to show up at LaCabana, she can scope things out!!!

Well she wouldn't let us send her the money for the cab fair, shes an adult. She is flying in from Ocala, Fl to meet us, another couple (that we always travel to Aruba with) & our kids (grown & not grown) The kids & friends/girlfriends & boyfriends & niece will be there with us 1/12 - 1/28 we will be there 1/12 to 1/26 or 28. It should be a real experience for everyone. arty:

i agree with pg. have her do the taxi. well worth it. she will get a quick drive (if there is such a thing with that traffic) thru town and arrive without stops at lacabana. they will hold her luggage and she can either sit at the bar with a cool drink or slip into her bathing suit and relax at the pool until you get there. by the time you arrive she will certainly be mellow and happy. it is the perfect introduction to aruba.

There is a big difference in the time frame that you guys will be arriving but if it was a smaller gap there is a little area in the airport after you get your luggage that now sells soda, beer, chips, etc. There are nice bistro type tables to sit and if your a smoker you can go in and out the door without having to go thru customs to get back in.

We had friends arriving only within the hour of us last month and this was their first time in Aruba...they had no problem finding a place that sells beer. As a matter of fact they tried Balashi for the first time cuase they heard us talk about it for so many years...they just had to jump right in.

Again, your neice is arriving alot sooner then you and I agree to just have her taxi it to LaCabana...but its nice to know that that consession is there for the future!!! (all the way to the right by the side doors).

Question Re: Airport Question

OK! I'll try to make this the last question......
Has anyone ever travelled with a minor child (age 14) that was not theirs. My son is bringing his friend (at the last minute) & he does not have a passport. I know to bring his birth certificate (with the raised seal) & we are bringing a letter from his parents giving their permission for him to travel with us. Do any of you know if this is enough?

Corrine, We were just at Aruba Airport Dec. 4 and 18th. When we arrived, as you all know, we were herded like cattle to customs and then on to pick up our luggage and out the side door to curbside. We were not ALLOWED into the area that Elizabeth NJ is speaking of until we went to LEAVE Aruba. The little Bistro she is speaking of,(and it is little and it is cute), ( if it is the one we saw) it is located right across from where they sell the booze and cigarettes, and where Sbarro's Pizza is, where all the little shops & duty free shops are. We did see this Bistro when we went to the smoking area BEFORE we went through customs for departure gate to return back to Atlanta. Maybe they have changed the route we walk after depart plane now upon entering Aruba. That would be cool, we could stop for the booze and smokes after all????????

This is a form that is used for a single parent travelling with a minor child used when there is a divorce but this is something similar (if not the one) that you should fill out and have the parents of the child have notarized. Also it is a good idea to have a Medical Authorization form just in case. You never know what could happen. If you search this website you just might find the info you are looking for: http://www.singleparenttravel.net/Wr...izedLetter.htm

Nope not the one...this is at the arrival building. If your walking out with your luggage its all the way to the left by the side doors. Just when you grab your red Little Switzerland bag...look left (when I said right before I was standing on the sidewalk looking AT the building). Its immediately inside the electric doors!!! As far as new...I realy don't know, I always grab a taxi as soon as we get out but this time I had time to look around and find our friends!

ElizabethNJ, Jeez, we sure did miss that one and we both would have loved to have had a Balashi upon arrival!!!!! This time I did see the little booth where you can pick up cell phones to use while there, never had noticed that before, as like you, we are always in a big yank to grab that taxi and get to our destination!!!!!! I will pass this on to my brother and his wife as they will be waiting for me to arrive an hour later in Feb. They can relax and enjoy Balashi's.

When bringing a child not your own make sure you get a letter from the parents allowing medical attention in case of an emergency. Take that along with the letter giving the child permission to travel with you.

NOTARIZED letter of permission/or form either MUST be notarized & signed by BOTH parents

School photo ID (if available)
Birth Certificate with raised seal

Last year I brought a friend of Jamie's, who was 17. I must say between Delta Airlines and Aruba customs, things were pretty lax! I had a notorized note of permission, including for medical treatment and her birth certificate, that's it! Maybe because she flew separately, I didn't have any hassles. Aruban customs officials, correctly, made her stay with them, until we arrived to pick her up.

Hey there Hooked.

NIECE - If she is a tot, wait for her and if she is old enough and smart enough to handle things, give her the cab fare and I will join you for a beer. Be sure to give her all information needed to get through customs - where the cabs are - etc.

FRIEND - Travel documents (passport or whatever the airlines informs you is needed) and a Notarized letter from parents that he may travel with you. To save alot of hassles, take his papers from him when arriving and YOU present them to the immigration folks. That way it is clear at the onset. Also make very sure that the return date ion his tavel tickets is exactly the same as your. Just a tip.

Be well
Charles

This is exactly what they did Charles, last year with Jamie's friend!

PS - After one week with that kid, I wished her return date was days before ours!
