Smile BBO tax??

I just saw an article about this new tax on Aruba called a BBO tax. It was not very comprehensive. wholesalers have to pay 3% tax on anything they import from the U S. This is after all the other duties, shipping charges, etc. Then the retailer has to pay a 3% tax when he gets it from the wholesaler. Then the consumer has to pay another 3% when they buy it. This means that consumers, whether Aruban or tourist are going to pay an additional almost 10% for these things. Any one know if it is just U S imports or all imports? Any exceptions? Anybody care? Any more information?

even though the consumer only gets charged 3% at point of sale, according to the article it is 3% on each succesive change from wholesaler to consumer which realy becomes about 10% to the consumer because the wholesaler and retaler will pass their cost on to the consumer.

it was an old article, could have been from january.

I Love Aruba Re: BBO tax??

>>> " all imports?"
---- Its on most things that are sold. Some places like restaurants add the 3% tax right on your bill. Most shops downtown post signs saying tax is included in their prices. So think it is on all sales even though you might not see it on what you may buy. The shop, company, restaurant, ...... can collect the tax or pay the tax themselves.
>>> "wholesalers have to pay 3% tax on anything they import from the U S."
---- My understanding is that they only pay it when they sell it. And then they can charge the 3% to their customers or pay it themselves.
