I know - it's really sad - S&P makes the best burgers and then to have those smells coming from next store!!! Not fun!

They sure know how to mess up a nice strip of restaurants with a fast food joint like Burger King. And yes that smell will certainly overtake the whole area. Another brilliant idea on the part of the Tango Owners. They should have just kept the original dancers with the restaurant - that's when it was really nice. Won't go to Tango anymore since doing away with the dancers - food too pricey and not that good, was better before - certainly won't go now with an odor of Burger King hanging around.

linda, maybe it's because we all figure that when in a foreign country we would not want to see wendy's, mcdonalds, sbarro, or any other american created chain right there in the middle of it all. we do understand that if the residents of the island want them, then they of course have every right to them but it sort of ruins the ambiance of the area to have burger king-an american fast food joint-in the middle of interesting local owned non american chain restaurants.
i honestly do not eat at sbarro, tony roma's, or any of the other chains and fast food places when visiting aruba unless forced to.

One of the best things about Aruba is the huge variety of good restaurants. We try to eat at places we haven't tried yet. Bobbie |

We ordered a pizza hut pizza in London because room service was closed when we checked into our hotel. We also ate lunch at Hard Rock in London because you CAN get ice in your tea there. Of course London is not known for its fine dining. What really surprised us though was seeing McDonalds in Paris. |

The same goes for the big hotel restaurants -- you may think you're eating at some fancy-named place, but it's just the Marriott or Westin or Radisson dining room. Eat where the locals eat (though I'm sure a lot of them will be checking out Burger King, as one man's kitsch is another man's exciting "foreign" cuisine.

I was in Aruba May 3-17 and noted the BK under construction. I do try to eat at non-chain restaurants (Salt & Pepper, Aqua Grille, Wacky Wahoos, Inguana Cantina this time). However, Dunkin Donuts has been right down the street for a long time, and McD's is around the corner from the Arawak Gardens. I, for one, appreciate being able to get a cheap breakfast, coffee, and/or soda without paying $$$ at the hotels. I don't have kids, but there were lots of families with little (pre-school) ones during the time I was there, and I'm sure BK will appeal to that segment.
BTW, when I went to Paris, McD's was the one place I could count on for a clean, free restroom, cheap OJ and soda!

The Burger King spot looks like a very tiny slice of land (maybe where the Tango stage used to be). It's got to be take out because where would they put any tables?
I also noticed a new Ben & Jerry's at Arowak Gardens too in one of the little tiny stores. |

That Ben & Jerry's was there last September when I was there. Good ice cream as usual, but most nights they are closing by 9:00 pm. Maybe its the time of the year, but I wish they would stay open later.

I can see seating for BK becoming a major problem.
I think locating it there is going to adversely impact the other restaurants to the point of possibly putting them out of business................ Not because people go to BK instead of the others but because you can't get to the others because of the BK customers. I can't believe I just used because 3 times in one sentence!! Sorry, I can't think of a better way to say to say it. |

no apology needed because you stated absolute truth.

Wow! I didn't know that Tango and this Burger King franchise were owned by the same person. It will be crowded in that outside seating area for sure.
Parking is already a problem at Arawak Gardens unless you go early. About a week ago, after we parked the car, a guard in the parking lot asked us (very nicely) what our plans were for the evening. When we said dinner at Salt and Pepper, he just said "Have a nice evening". It looked like he was enforcing the "Parking for Customers Only" sign. |

I generally don't do fast food restaurants in foreign countries - with a few execeptions. Our first night in Aruba has always been Pizza Hut. We started when they first opened because we could keep the kids happy and the adults could have onion soup and sangria and it became the thing to do every year. Our kids (who are now 25 and 21) get upset if we don't and we are starting our young godchildren on the tradition. We also do McDonald's in Aruba - for the only reason that in the US they don't offer pastechis...and I love pastechis! Plus we also do Tony Romas because we are from the Northeast and they don't have Tony Romas up there and it has become a vacation thing because hubby HUNGERS for ribs (and yes we do the Paddocks for all you can eat rib night). MickeyD's in Paris was great because you could get cheap cafe Americano and free internet. So SOME fast food places have their place. But not BK. YUK.

In Houston our standing Sunday night "date" used to be at Tony Roma's. When it closed, it closed a chapter in our lives. Now in Aruba, we continue our Carolina Honey ribs whenever we are there. Maybe some of your home towns have Tony Roma's but our doesn't anymore and we love that it is available in Aruba.
Now Burger King is another story... |
