Cool Christmas in Aruba

We first discovered Aruba during Christmas a few years ago, and it looks like we'll be back again this year for the holidays. That's the good news - the bad news is, it's only for a day or 2, as a stop on our cruise. Anyone else gonna be there for Christmas this year?

We are going on Christmas Day, get in about noon. We did a cruise in Feb. that stopped in Aruba. Don't think we'll be doing that again as I wanted to stay and not get back on the ship! I'm surprised a cruise ship stops there on Christmas as there is nothing opened on the 25th & 26th (Boxing Day).

I was there for Christmas once and wasn't too impressed with it. I thought the resort would do something, but they did nothing. But I love New Year's, this will be our third time there for New Year's.

During Xmas, the resort was playing Xmas music non-stop and they gave out special sweet treats. Can't help getting a kick out of all of the xmas lights and decorations (situated next to tropical trees and cacti) on the houses and at the resorts. Being from NY I'm used to seeing snow, so I guess I just get excited over the absence of it in Aruba. New Years in Aruba exceeded my wildest expectations. The firewords were so beautiful! Can't wait!

You're right, although I knew there are fireworks around New Year's, I was amazed at the amount of them. My FAVORITE time of the year there. Much better than Canival IMHO

The one we'd been looking at stopped in Aruba on the 26th, departing on the 27th. The more I let the cost of that cruise sink (no pun intended!) in , the more I think we may try Thanksgiving-time instead...

I'm still looking at our option$...

We used to cruise all the time, but found it to be more expensive, plus we've seen just about all the islands we want to. We went in Feb. because it had a full Panama Canal passage, not just part way. That's probably the last one we'll take, although I like one of RCCL's boats itinerary, but the boat is pretty old. I always look at itinerary, not ship, which is different from most people. I figure, why always go to the same islands? My idea of a cruise is to see new islands / ports. We stopped in Huatulco, MX and I would love to go back there, but it would mean 2-3 different planes each way to get there and take about 12 hours, too long. I will make it back there someday. It's an up and coming port (only about 50 a year when a cruise stops there, but it was nice and quiant and the people loved us tourists.

We plan on doing a (somewhat) different itinerary than our last cruise, which hit Jamaica, Aruba, Curacao, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. The one we're targeting does the Panama Canal, Costa Rica, Grand Cayman, and - surprise - Aruba. We're BIG fans of RC, we barely acknowledge other lines.
