11 Days and a wake up and we will be on our way to BEAUTIFUL, WARM, Aruba. We can't wait to meet those of you that will be there at the Amsterdam Manor on the 11th. This BB has given us so much great info and insite into Aruba we have been able to make informed decisions as to what to do this trip and what can wait until "next time" (I hope)

7 months 1 week and it is scary as well as exciting. i will be in a country that is really totally foreign. language, culture, religion, expectations...none will be the same as in the usa. i have learned one word of wolof, the native language and hope to learn at least a few more ('wauw' means yes...pronounced 'wow'). i am going to get a self teach cd for french since 2 years of french in high school was a loooonnnggg time ago. i will have to practice saying no and ignoring people which is something i never do but the locals will follow for a mile trying to convince you to buy things that you don't want (picture the straw markets in nassau and multiply by 1,000). i have to remember all the rules, don't drink the water, don't even use someone's nail file, don't eat it raw unless you can peel it, don't open your mouth in the shower. i still have one booster shot to go for hep 'b'.

sure doesn't seem like aruba to me, lol.

Absolutely Sherry, we want to hear all about that trip. It's one thing to go to Aruba, where no shots are needed, drinking water is more pure than ours, locals are nicer than us, streets are safer than ours, etc etc - Africa is so unknown to probably like 95% of Americans. Scary fun!

Our version of the double-countdown is Italy in 50 days, Aruba in appx 160. Italy for us is an unknown, we're looking forward to finding our way as best we can.

Donnie you're right - I wasn't sure what smilie was yours, it was the devil or the nerd. You seem far from a devil, so here we are. Heck, I gave myself a nerd in my signature, it's something to be proud of...

i will link you to a site before i go that will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about wolof or senegal. then we can have any story you want. that would be different and i will have internet access at candy's apartment so i can check in and give details. actually there are some wonderful places around dakar that i can't wait to see. do you realize that dakar was basically the last place in africa the slaves touched soil. the history in that city has to be cool to see.

now, to get this thread back on topic, i have two trips to aruba to be excited about and to count. we found an airfare deal we couldn't turn down and have decided to go to aruba on may 4th for a week. so, my first aruba countdown is 36 days. then my normal trip is in august so the countdown for that is 147 days. this will be the first time in all the years that we will go to aruba twice in one year.

nope, we sold our business and this is uncle sam's chance to screw us. it is no fun to know that you work all of those years in a small business so no pension and sell the place only to give the gvmt part of the money you worked so hard to get. our tax system sucks big time.

210 Days for us (October). At least the weather is getting warmer here at home. I think the older I get the more I hate Winter.

I know this is not the proper forum for this but since we live in Louisville, KY I have to mention how excited we are for our basketball team going to the Final 4. There were over 16,000 people who attended a pep rally for the team in downtown Louisville yesterday. GO CARDS!!!

I would have to say that the next best thing to going to Aruba is having your team in the Final 4 of collage basketball.

Okay, I won't mention it again, unless of course, U of L wins next Monday.
