Default Listen To Your Kids

It is always a mystery how kids get the common sense education they do. Think about this little event that happened this past Sunday.

This family is comming out of the luggage pick up door and has about three lovely black rolling suitcases - the kind that look expensive and have handles on them to make them easier to drag. This family unit includes a Dad, a Mom and two kids that look like they could be twins - but due to obvious age differences aren't. I guess the little guy was about 6 and the other about 9.

The "Dad" is pulling the larger black case while the "Mom" deals with the middle sized one and the oldest of the two kids is lugging the carry-on-black-case. He (the Dad) stops to talk to the DePalm Tours folks about something or other and the two kids start talking. In a flash, one of the kids unzips the smallest case and takes out a small cloth bag with POOH bear designs on it. He and his older brother run off while saying something about the bathroom. The Mom figure turns to look for them and asks me what they said. I tell her that I think they went to the bathroom together. She sighs an OK sigh and waits for them. The two kids return in mommenst and the little guy is in his Pajamas, still wearing his NIKE sneakers.

The Father goes off the deep end and starts to give the kid one of those "I-will-kill-and eat-you-tonight" looks. The kid holds on to his Pooh bear and says - "Dad - cool your jets. At least you won't have to be mad cause I don't want to put on my PJ's tonight". The kid walks off with his brother while dragging the carry on case and they head in the direction of the Depalm busses. Mom is laughing her (you now what) off and the guy finally just throws his hands in the air and says to the DePalm Lady
"Well - I guess he is right" Then he starts laughing.

Kids!
Who can ever figure them out.

charles

What a cute story!! Indeed, children have a sense of logic that many times exceeds an adults. They are definitely worth listening to!

Charles, That reminds me of an interaction I had recently with my 16 year old daughter. I saw a news story about the "ICE" (in case of emergency) number that everyone should have as a speed dial on their cell phones. I was very serious, you know the tone one uses when trying to maintain the attention of a 16 year old....I said, you know.....in case something happens to you and you are unable to tell someone who you are and who to call, you should put our home # under your ICE speed dial. She looks at soooo matter of factly and says "Won't they just dial the # that says "MOM"???? I had to laugh!

Dee - When my daughter started college last fall, during orientation the Security Department had the kids put their phone number and the Albany PD in speed dial in their cell phones. Very smart!

Great story Charles! The logic of children is often full of wisdom if we take the time to listen.
