Default Nice stories of nice Arubans

I remember my first trip to Aruba. We got lost driving around trying to find the old gold mines. I stopped at a little store and the man could not speak English. I had a map and pointed to where I wanted to go. He closed his store and motioned for me to follow him in his car and took us there, about 1 mile away. Then he motioned to lock my doors by pulling his lock up and down and pointing to my car. I still haven't been able to find that store again, but I'm still looking. Thank you again sir. I've never forgotten you.

Great thread.
yesterday, Eddy reported in the tradewind times that on Paula Zhans show (CNN), people polled voted the Aruban people as the "nicest people! I'M glad that they see what we all have seen and known.
And what about our own Sandra, when hearing about a dog waiting for transportation to another country at the vets, took her in, not knowing how long it would be for, and having to make her "house friendly" as well as cat friendly.

We have been going to Aruba for years, and one bartender who is always at the hotel offered to show us around where the locals go. He took us around and also to Charlie's Bar. It was a great day, and, of course, he did it on his day off!

On the other hand, I would like to forget when I went into a store that I go in every time we're there and the woman said "I remember you, you've gained weight."

Lastly, at Juggling Fish I went in to get something that I had gotten my previous time there (1-1/2 months before) as someone else wanted one also. Unfortunatley they did not have it. The woman working there remembered me from the most recent and previous times being there and said next time your cruise ship is in, come in and look again, we should be getting more in. I started laughing and said that I did not work on a cruise ship and that I just come to Aruba a lot.

I don't think that many other places in the world who get so many tourists would remember one person, but it happens all the time in Aruba.

My friends are always remembered in the casinos, but that is for another reason! I don't have enough money to be recognized in a casino!

After buying our timeshare at LaCabana, we were excited and nervous. We went to El Gaucho to celebrate. Had way too much Sangria! When we came out, my husband asked the "doorman" in uniform to get us a cab. While looking at us funny, the gentlemen somehow flagged one down for us. As we got into the cab and got a closer look, my husband went deadly silent. I asked what was wrong and he said that wasn't a "doorman" that was a police officer!

We were mortified but thank you, kind officer, for tolerating 2 tipsy Americans!

That is funny. Here - The officer might have arrested him for Disorderly Conduct.

In Feb. of this year was my 1st. time and I meet PapaWito and Family. Was at their home ate with them. We email about every 2 weeks now. It felt Sooo Special to me. We are going back this July and he has tried to get me to stay with them - but I just couldn't. He knows!! But I know if for some reason I had to - I would just show up - and say " Whats for Dinner - I am hungry."

BigPapa, I just wanted to say that I read your trip report and it completey consumed me. I think you must be a great husband, and that you and George (nickname for a woman in case any of you have not read his trip report) are a beautiful couple. Good luck in the future!!! Can;t wait for my honeymoon in Aruba!!!

I have found Aruban people to be some of the most wonderful anywhere. I have had hotel employees that have acted as island guides on their day off. One even offered to loan me his car for the day he was working rather than me renting one. (I did not take him up on that but thought it was an extremely nice offer.)

The last time we were there, the owner of Papiamento came by our table and spoke with us about our previous trip to his restaurant a year earlier. He even remembered the table we sat at and what we had to eat.

My husband and I have many people that we have met and made friends with as a result of the Aruban way of making you feel at home.
