I'm not sure how to post it myself but it would obviously involve scanning the stuff then downloading it from there. I think that all falls within my limited abilities.
I'm gonna give it a shot because some of the stuff was just fascinating. A lot of the stuff would be stuff everybody here already knows all about - like photos of the sights. But there was, for instance, a 1971 "New York Times" special edition review of the Netherlands Antillies (of which Aruba was still a part). There was lots of other cool stuff that I'm just not remembering at the moment. If you never see it here, that means I couldn't figure out how to post it.

Y'all be patient with me; I'll figure it out.
In the meantime, here's a site that Kevin posted a couple of months ago. Root aorund in it for a while for scenes of the old Aruba: www.lago-colony.com/index.htm

Sounds like you found some interesting stuff Charlie that we would love to see!
The only way I can think of is to scan the stuff - on my scanner, text goes to Word and pictures to Microsoft Office Picture Manager where you actually can set the pixels to "website". From there they have to be uploaded to a site like Kodak Gallery or Shutterfly (you probably need to register first, no big deal). I think that is how most of us share our pictures. |

Technical difficulty number one. I thought we had a scanner at the office but it turns out we don't. Oh, well. I'm not giving up. If all else fails, I suppose I can go to a Kinkos but I'd rather not have to pay for this. As I said yesterday, be patient with me.

Here's a blast from the recent past for y'all. My parents have returned to New Mexico and I am now officially in physical possession of the stuff I was talking about below. In addition to a satchel, we also found a banker's box full of more stuff. A lot of it is copyrighted and some of it just simply would be too much work for too little return (entire books on the flora and fauna of the ABC's, technical specifications for refinery projects, e.g.). But a lot of it is really interesting (early, early tourism promotional brouchures, etc.).
So, needless to say, I have been in nostalgia heaven since last Sunday. And I will figure out how to scan, download, and post it. Quote:

Charlie Liz,
What you have in your hands is GOLD!!!! So many people are looking for historical information. As it turns out, there wan't an urgency to keep or develop historical files during the early days of Arubas development. As a result, very little exists. That said, the library has some inhteresting stuff, however I have not gone there to look it myself lately. There used to be a web site that I looked at about 10 years ago that had nothing but pictures of Aruba during the olden days. I wold love to have that site as well. My hat is off to you charlie and I wish you so much success in doing this. Charles Quote:

Charlie - Congratulations, it sounds like you have some great stuff! Scanning it is probably the best way to go! It sounds like you should create a website for it. You need a certain software to do that. That's all I know about it. Good Luck! |

http://www.trib.com/~dwood/photogallery.html Sorry. The link doesn't seem to be working. Google "Aruba in old pictures" and it's the first link that comes up.
