From what I've read at other Aruba bulletin boards, the Occidental Allegro is finally going to undergo some much-needed renovations. Does anyone know if this is true? Has there been an official word on the dates for the renovations? And if so, when were/are they going to let the timeshare owners know that the resort will be closed?

I'm starting to think about my 2005 trip to Aruba, and I was really looking forward to two weeks at the Allegro.

they won't close the resort. They will renovate section by section. When we were there in Sept. the jack hammers were going all day long. From what I understand they have finished the timeshare units and now are going to renovate the regular rooms. We went on the TS tour and the rooms looked very nice (but didn't buy there).

My hubby and I just bought a timeshare at this resort (I haven't even gotten all the closing paperwork in the mail yet). I called their vacation club line yesterday to check on some dates for this year and I asked about the rumors of the resort closing for renovations. The woman I spoke to said officially they are not closing, but off the record they will most likely be closed for a few months.

I've heard that they will totally be closing from May until December and when they re-open they will only be all-inclusive. I'm sure the timeshare people won't have to be AI though.

I'll be there this Saturday the 31st of July for 2 weeks. Can't wait! Hopefully if there is work going on it wont be noisy... Timeshare owner

They are closing sometime in April 2005 till Dec. 2005. Then it will be all in clusive but not for previous timeshare owners unless they choose the option at booking time.

The resort will be closing. I dont know what rumors are going around and what is being said but coming directly from the reservations manager and general manager the hotel will close some time in April...date keeps changing till NOv/Dec...depending on when they get everything done. They will be workign tower by tower only to ensure that at least one tower is fully operational so they can reopen by December the latest.
They will be putting in a bunch of new restaurants and it will be a fully all inclusive resort. I have also heard from the hotel and my travel agent who is an aruba broker that the hotel will be on the same level as a royal hide away resort. 5 star.

Does anyone know when they will re-open?

While in Aruba from July 9 to July16, the Allegro resort was entirely closed. However, the casino was open. It appeared windows & patios to most of the rooms were gone & the rooms were exposed to the elements at that time. Many work crews were present, so it seems there is progress.
