No, but was that the movie about the Red Sox fan, with Drew Barrymore and that gay guy from Sat Nite Live? I may be as fanatic and obsessive as he was (I haven't seen the movie, but am aware of the concept of Sox mania), but I'm all man!

I am indeed sad
- it was a nice moment when Schill came out of the bullpen and the crowd cheered wildly. It wasn't so nice when Sheff lined that double or when A-Rod launched the homer, or when Mo whiffed 'em all in the ninth.3 more coming, but I'll be floating somewhere in the backwaters of NC and won't be able to watch. Come on Sox!!

For Curt Schilling:
Thanks, for the memories......... I think ARod and Mariano, who have been taunted by Schilling and Bos Sox fans had the last laugh last night. Board Babe is happY! But seriously, it was a GREAT game and I'm not saying that because yanks won. Both teams were terrific! |
|

In last night's (Sunday night) game, can someone PLEASE tell me why Joey Cora is pinch hitting with the bases loaded and no outs?
Can someone say "John Olerud"!!!! I would just like to know Francona's thought process on this one. Is he saving him for the Tampa Bay series??? |
|
||||
|
I don't second-guess Francona, although I was surprised to see him up there. That rally was looking so good that victory was inevitable - I was already celebrating! My wife was mad because I woke her up, but then she got caught up in it too. Nice DP to shut me up...
Nice series win for the Empire, now let's see if they can put a pitching rotation together. If they want Alan Embree thay can have him...

That wasn't even a fair game Kevin! That was the Sox against Little League. That poor Redding and Cabrera! Still 3 out of 4 - I'll take it. DId you see Al Leiter yesterday? Wow! From having a Met fan in the house, I know that this is not always going to be the case. KBrown pitching tonight - easy win for is it Texas? Tomy - We are Yankee fans but my husband was wondering the same thing! |
|
||||

Leiter looked great - throwing against a fearsome lineup like the Sox, he should be feeling pretty good about himself. I sure wish we got to see KBrown, but the Rangers can tear him up (actually I think it might be Anaheim - even worse!)

OK sis, all the time that the Sox were in first, you never saw the
from me, did you? That's pretty RonB-ish of you, ya know... The roles are very much reversed this year - Sox fans are thinking that it doesn't matter, that the Sox will win the division anyway and the Yanks will be lucky to make the playoffs. Yanks fans are probably hungrier than they've ever been, and convinced that they can topple the mighty Sox. Just the opposite of last year (and every year it seems)...

Not surprising that KBrown got shelled last night, I can't believe he still draws a paycheck. After RJ and Mussina (both not nearly as good as they used to be), the Yanks are hurting for some pitching - they better hope there's a lot more offense to come, because they're gonna need to win more 11-10 games...
That said, the Sox pitching isn't exactly ripping up the league either. The second half should be interesting - the O's just got their best pitcher back, so it wouldn't be the biggest shock if they snuck by both of us and won the East, leaving us both at home!

Wish I could do I half***ed job at work and get paid so well! Tom Gordon and Mariano had me sweating the other night. I think that sox runner (don't remember who) was safe! I hope Leiter works out. He at least has experience in NY. You could be right about the O's. |

Hmmm, who's that back in the rear view mirror where they belong? Why it's the Yanks!
Nice to see the Sox beat the team with the best record in MLB last night, and doing it on the road, and in dramatic fashion. The lesson for the Chisox: Don't give Manny and Curt a second chance - instead of a blown save and a foul popout, it's a win and a homer. Going up tonight against the pitcher most likely to win the Cy Young trophy this year, so maybe I'll just quiet down...

No I didn't. But do you know how many games apart we are now? Steve's too busy cursing at the Mets to know! |

It's close, Sox are ahead by 1 game over the Yanks, 3.5 over the slumping O's.
Clement was pitching a 5-0 shutout thru the 4th or 5th (I think) inning, when he took a line drive hit right off his temple. He dropped like a sack, and left on a stretcher. The Rays scored 5 runs that inning to make matters worse , but the Sox won it in the 10th. They went 99 games before having any extra-inning games (a record by 30 games), then went extras in consecutive nights. Go figure...

Yankees just signed Alan Embry - my God what were they thinking? Are they actually desperate enough to start picking through the Red Sox's trash heap?? And he pitched today and - oh this is a shocker - gave up some runs late in the game. Somehow they managed to pull off a win, but with him around, it's going to get tougher and tougher. Ugh.
|
|
||||
|
I saw that and laughed - yes they are that desperate, and are digging thru anyone's trash. Their starting pitcher (10th different one this month!) last night came in with a record of like 1 and 12 or something like that. In his defense he pitched great, but Embree and Gordon (another ex-Sox) gave it away. Lucky for them, the Angels closer was tired and wild, and gave it back.
This stretch run should be fun, especially with all that's happening with Manny. I hope they keep him, and that he wins the MVP. Corine, it looks like you're out on your own here - the other Yanks fans that went toe to toe with me last year must have just been front-runners

Cathy - I agree with you- Yikes! Steve is not too thrilled with the Mets getting Manny because he doesn't think they should give up Cameron. Today's paper in the sports said "The Mets Are Sitting By the Phone" waiting for Manny! |

You were right, no Manny! In the picture in today's paper, he actually looks pretty relieved!

I think the Sox called his bluff - he said he wanted out (like he does every year) because he wants more privacy, that he's tired of being the center of attention - so the Sox made it known that they were shopping him to NY, and how quickly he decided that he wanted to stay in Boston after all! No way was that trade gonna happen, especially with what was being offered for an annual MVP candidate.
Sox are about to run away with the East, and the A's/Angels will put up a strong fight for the wild card, so you've got your hands full Corrine!

Talk is that the Yanks are quietly acknowledging that they are going to 'rebuild'. The fact that they didn't trade away prospects before the trade deadline (as they usually do) seems to agree with that. They did manage to shore up some holes in the bullpen, but refrained from going after the big names that were available - players that in past years would have been scooped up by Darth.
I still say (prediction alert!) that we're looking at the first non-playoff year for the Yanx in many years, and I would add that they are doing it honorably by playing with the cards they have dealt instead of trading away their future. One last thing: Viva Manny!! Last year's World Series MVP, this year's regular season MVP. Oh, and how about throwing a vote to Mo Rivera for Cy Young? Since blowing his 1st 2 save chances this year (both against the Bosox of course), he's perfect since.
