I still firmly believe that the Sox can/will come back - all they have to do is beat the Yanx head to head, like they've done every game this year but last night's. Yes, I am the eternal optimist, it's part of being a Sox fan - every year seems like The Year, and then of course it gets ripped out from under us by some Yankee ******&#*

There's a reason why property in Brooklyn sells for cheap...

Sorry, kevin, your own infield rips it from under you. Forget about "Jeter's smirk", calling them "Crankees", etc., your infield STINKS, lost the game again for you tonight.

I leave tomorrow for R&R in sunny FLA. Ron, I leave this discussion in your capable hands.

Actually, head to head, the Sox lead, 6 games to 3.

But Nomar et al are not doing themselves any favors with their lousy play lately. They went into the series 5 1/2 back, now they're 7 1/2 back.

Don't look now but Pedro's on the bump tonight. If not for the bumbling errors, Wakefield was well on his way to victory last night. Just a little here and a little there and the whole picture changes...it's a long season, I don't care how far they're back - yet, anyway. Wile E. Coyote will rise tonight and spank the Road Runner, starting the Nation toward the Promised Land. Print it.

First off I want to give the red Sox credit because I just saw one of the best games I have seen. Now For All red sox fans TTTTTTTTHHHHHHHHHEEEEEE YANKEES WIN TTTTTTTHHHHHHHHEEEEEE YANKEES WIN. SWEEP THE 3 GAMES AND BOSTON SAY BYE BYE to the American league east pennant. A great game and I almost missed it had to go to work but I came home by the 8th inning so the game was tied went to 13 innings. What was that about Pedro. what are we supposed to be scared. 8.5 games behind 9 in the lost column IT's a wrap sorry Kevin and Scube I know football camp opens up in 2 weeks so I know you can't wait for those Patriots ha ha

It was indeed a great game, totally playoff atmosphere. Jeter's catch, Manny's continued success at the stadium, Pedro's continued cockiness (btw, he's not trying to scare you/them, Sheff called timeout during his windup, that's why he got hit), extra innings, ph walk-off - the game had it all.

I'll concede that it looks a bit bleak, but hope is not lost. We've still got 9 games left head to head, 9 more chances to right the wrong. We still lead the series 6 to 4, we know we can beat them. You have every right to run your mouth, and I see you're exercising those rights.

Bring on football season, at least the Giants outta quiet you down. Redskins and Pats in the Super Bowl?

Kevin,Kevin I see that you are not a student of history plus you did not watch baseball tonight. On ESPN2 otherwise you would have heard them say that when ever the Yankees are in 1st place by July and have at least a 6 game lead on a team THEY HAVE NEVER EVER IN THEIR HISTORY BLOWN IT. Wish all you want but reality is what it is and after watching normar sitting in the dugout all excited and cheering on his team Ha Ha espacally when all his other teamates are standing up on top of the dugout steps cheering hoping that they can get that run across the plate .All I can say is the Red sox have more problems than a lousy infield. And If my memory hasn't failed me yet when the season first started someone I don't remember who was actually saying that Normar was the better shortstop than Derek I wonder if that person still believes that. After watching Jeter go in the stands after that catch. All I can say is this is why Derek Is the Captain and this is why the Yankees are in 1st place.

One thing is for sure, neither Nomar or Jeter deserves to be an All-Star this year. Jeter JUST started swing the bat and Nomar has just missed too much of the season.

Am down in sunny Florida. From the looks of things, the Yankees have more to worry about from Tampa Bay, than the Red Sox.

Go Yankees!! What's with these Mets???? They are chanting in Flushing "We're not the Red Sox!!!!!"

Just got back from Nags Head NC, got to see a bit of the highlights of the Yanks getting beat by the Mets once, twice, thrice...too bad the Sox could only make up one game on 'em. One down is still one down, here we come! Yes Ron, I am a student of the game, but if I believed that "if X happens by July 1 then Y", I wouldn't be able to be a Sox fan, would I? I gotta believe, and I do. History proves to us that anything can happen, and sometimes it does.

Jeter's catch was a good one, no doubt, but Nomar would have stayed in the game.

I tried to get back and edit my post before anyone read/replied - I felt bad about swinging so low at Jeter. Nice hustle, Corrine!

Kevin Kevin you didn't edit quick enough ha ha. Now lets see. while nomar is pouting and I must say that he married a very nice person Mia hamm is very pretty and a great soccer player probably the best ever. I don't follow womens soccer so I don't know let's talk about Jeters ex girl friends he has went out in no particular order Mariah Carey I think she looks kinda pretty, Jordana Brewster form the 1st fast and furious movie she looks good I think don't you think so? Miss Universe from 2000 that exotic beauty from someplace I mean hey Miss Universe she must look at least decent and since jeter is single and is one of the most eligable bachelors around I mean whats a guy who makes about 14 million a year to do plus he is the Capt of the world famous NY Yankees. I respect nomar but remember this saying cause it gonna happen soon NOMAR IS GONNA BE NOMORE IN BOSTON

Hey, everyone's time comes sooner or later - other than Jeter and Mo (and maybe Bernie), the core of your championship teams are gone. That's what happens, you can't pay everyone. Hopefully the Sox will keep some of the many pricey free agents they have coming up this winter, and replace the ones they have to let go - even if that means saying bye bye to Nomar.

Yeah, Jeter's been with some nice women, but where are they now? With someone else, presumably happier. And dreaming about Nomar, and what might have been...all joking aside, I did try to remove the innapropriate comment about Jeter in time, Corrine was just too quick for me.

You've got a very comfortable lead, let's see if you can keep it or collapse ala Boston a few years ago. May the best team win!

Well said, Kevin!

PS, it was Jordana I sat behind. Oh my! Her legs look like they are 5 feet tall themselves and her whole butt had to be 18" wide and she was gorgeous! Needless to say, I never got my food from the waiter and my husband was too busy enjoying the view to get up.

She does sound gorgeous - you're lucky the waiter even made it up to your row ! Jeter just strikes me as a guy that's gonna stay single, because he's a bit too full of himself - that smirk gives him away.

I'll admit, w/o all that talent and w/o all that money, I believe I have a bit of a smirk myself. Confidence (arrogance?) will do that , intentional or not. All he's done is win, so he's entitled to his smirk, no doubt. Still, I continue to hope that Pedro gets his chance to wipe it off his face, just like he did to Zim .

Watch out, you got Tampa up next after those pesky Tigers! It's not fair, you get the bottom feeders while we get the A's (and probably Angels next). Oh well, we need the test, and we need to believe we can beat the big boys.

Age is starting to show, just like I predicted! Here's the breakdown (pun intended ):
Kevin Brown: hurting - is he even on the roster anymore?
Contreras: inconsistent, thinking about his family, who knows how old.
El Duque: he's gonna be the savior?
Mussina: hot and cold, very cold right now.
Giambi: parasites in his innards.

Meanwhile:
Pedro: his usual stellar self.
Schilling: all-star, leads the league in victories.
Wakefield: heating up, just threw a shutout.
Manny: stud, triple crown/MVP threat.
Ortiz: see Manny.

I smell a pennant race!

No argument there! However may I add:

Schilling: usually nasty
Pedro: always nasty
Nomar: definitely butter-fingered
Damon: weird
Millar: weirder

I do hope there is a race again but I do smell some kind of brawl again!

That's what's great about an authentic rivalry - they genuinely hate each other, and a brawl is never far from the surface ! There's no better rivalry in sports, witness the ongoing brawl on this thread between me and all you Yanx fans .

Damon is definitely wierd, as is Millar, but characters are important to a team, that's how the Sox almost got there last year. I'll admit that 'Cowboy Up' is a hokey slogan, but it rallied the team...until Boone ruined everything.

NOT TRUE, NOT TRUE, you are picking on 2 of my favorites (course my husband calls Millar "goofy" ). I think not. This is what makes the Sox a "team" they all have their own personalities and idiosyncrasies and they all work well together. Don't be picking on Ortiz either....

Millar was saying how last night's win reminded him of last season. Great to see Damon hauling butt around the bases to score from first on a double.

I once scored from first on a sacrafice fly to shallow centerfield. The girl who caught it was so excited, and she didn't realize that I was allowed to run.

Oh, believe me I'm not picking on anyone - I love the characters that are on the Sox, that's part of what makes them such a compelling story every year. There's no robots here! I saw the highlights from last night's game, with Damon sliding in with the running run - I see that he's growing his beard back...

Ortiz and Manny should be #1 and #2 in MVP voting at the halfway point.
Schill and Pedro should be #1 and #2 for CY Young at the halfway point.

Yankee fans should keep looking over their shoulder, because the juggernaut is just starting to fire up. Ron, you listening??

Kevin Kevin so the fire is starting huh well I tell you what when you get the grill going good let us Yankees know remember you are looking up at us waiting for us to fall back all we gotta do is play our normal game. better worry about at least keeping a wild card spot instead of trying to get 1st place

Well, we just swept the A's, the team most likely to be battling for the wild card spot, so who's next for the Sox? The other team we'd likely be fighting, the Rangers. Let's see how this shapes up, and see if you can muster up enough strength to beat the likes of the Tigers and Rays. We want first place, and you're in the way. Heck, ScubaBos sounds fast enough to catch your Yanks' old legs ! Oh, and nice to see Pedro passed up an invitation to the All Star game to let Vasquez take a spot. Like he deserves it...

I was just looking at the Twins schedule for the month and see that we get to play the Royals 4 more times this month - woohoo!!!

I have tickets for the Boston game at the Dome at the end of the month. Sorry Sox fans, but I will have to root for my Twins that weekend.

kevin,
Boy, with all these MVP and Cy Young candidates, why is it the Yankees who have 8 All Stars, not to mention Soriano?

thoughts from Yankees/old timer's day game today:

Yankees have been in 40% of World Series.
Yankee have the best record in baseball.
Yankee fans gave Lou Pinella (in a DEVIL RAYS UNIFORM) a standing ovation.
Yankee fans gave Tino Martinez (in a DEVIL RAYS UNIFORM) an ovation.
With 2 outs, Derek "the smirk" Jeter, hit a double to the wall to score 3 runs.

Heard from the bleachers: "BOSTON SUX, BOSTON SUX"

What can I say???

Because there are so many Yankee fans out there, voting blindly - how else do you explain Giambi making the team?? And Vasquez - he only made it because Cy passed on the spot and because Torre's the manager. Shameless...

Soriano (and Clemens)? Why would you throw them in my face? They have NOTHING to do with the Yanks...

As a recap, who on the Yanks could finish ahead of either Pedro or Schill in Cy Young votes? NO ONE, the only possibility would be Rivera, a reliever. Who would be anywhere near Manny or Ortiz in MVP votes? NO ONE, not even close.

You should know better than to believe what you read in the NEW York Post. If every player that was rumoured to be heading for the Bronx did so, you'd have won even more world series than you have...more likely that you get Pedro than Big Unit.

Yes, ah to be a RED Sox fan.

The same thing I've already said - it's easy to be a Yanks fan, it takes guts and character to be a Sox fan. Same as the Cowboys, who have been in 25% or more of the Super Bowls - I can't respect their fans, unless they're from Texas.

That the bleacher bums were chanting 'Boston Sux' is a measure of respect to their chief rival. Who else can stand up to the Empire? Certainly not the Rays, so I wouldn't get too proud of a late double against them...

Ouch, when you're right, you're right. However, I heard the only people who hate Schilling more than the other team, are his own team mates.

Serious rumor flying here, kevin, about Randy Johnson, though. NOT from the NY Post.

Looking forward to tonight's game, especially Piazza and Clemens working together.

The odds makers in Vegas say Clemens' first pitch will be at Piazza's head and not his glove.

Geez, I hope not! I hope Clemens shows some class!

I'm more excited about the game than usual, for that reason among others...I'd like to see some action like Clemens pegging his own catcher!

As for Big Unit, I'm trying to use my powers of dissuasive resistance, to keep Darth from landing him in the Zoo. It just ain't fair - because of their history, players want to join the Yanks when they're nearing the end of their careers, just like with Malone and the Lakers last year. Too bad for him, hopefully RJ gets the same misfortune if he moves to NY.

Midseason (AL bias) awards (The 'Kevies'):
Best 1-2 punch in baseball, hands down: Ortiz and Manny.
Best 1-2 aces in baseball, hands down: Schill and Pedro.
Best disposition: Pedro (Lima 2nd).
Best hair: Nomar (That dude on the Pirates 2nd).
Best facial hair: Damon.
Best comeback from a horrible start (tie): Jeter and A-Rod and Tampa Bay.
Cy Young: Mulder (Schill 2nd)
MVP: Manny (Vlad 2nd)
Mgr: Piniella (Guillen 2nd)

Any arguments?

Best 1-2 punch: Jeff Nelson and Karim Garcia or Pedro and old man Zimmer
Best Business Decision: Not paying a couple of thousand extra for AROD
Best Charles Manson look-a-like: Damon
Weirdest Hair: Millar, Manny second
Best collapse from a terrific start: Red Sox
MVP: Vlad in a landslide, Manny can't catch
Mgr: agreed Piniella

Also may I add: The booing for Matsui, Sheffield, Rivera and Joe Torre shows NO CLASS, Houston!

All Star game so far:

It's STILL the top o' the first inning, 6-0 AL. Roger (do you think the Yanks still want me back?) Clemens getting rocked bad, by Manny (can't spell MVP without M) Ramirez's 2-run homer, and by Alfonso (thank God I'm outta NY) Soriano's 3-run homer. A-(can I have more money please?)rod? Whiff, 0-1. Jason (how did I get here?) Giambi, 0-1 reached on error. Derek (I smirk because I care) Jeter, single that moved bug boy over to third.

Corrine, I agree with your call against Houston' fans. Tasteless and classless. And Manny does have some bizarre hair this year, as does Pedro. Gotta love that Boston clubhouse.

The bad thing is that the fans did not applaud him graciously, either because he beat the hometown Houston player or because of his/Ortiz' Dominican flavor. It's sad that they couldn't reward him with the ovation he deserved. Both he and Palmiero represented the O's well, congrats on having something to be happy about re the O's!

Don't look now, but it appears that they'll be bringing in a team (Expos) to my area to take some fans from Camden - the likely site is about 5 miles from my home in Reston. Rest assured, I'll ALWAYS be a Sox fan - that's the dilemma, that most people in this area have already formed allegiances with other teams since the Senators left, so it'll be hard to develop a fan base.
