All Star Game wrap-up:

Manny: 2 run bomb, bad hair, will be MVP.
Ortiz: 2-run bomb, most RBI's in the majors since last year's all star break.
Clemens: pathetic, I think Piazza was tipping the batters to the pitches.
Jeter: good game, 3 hits.
Soriano: MVP of the game, 3-run bomb and measure of redemption.
AL: dominant as usual, home field (Fenway) advantage in the World Series.
Houston fans: be thankful, you won't be seeing another all star game.

Out!

Maybe if the sox stopped worrying about all the different haircuts and Manny(I am taking a day off before the all star break) they lost that game by the way starting playing baseball and stop all trying to look different they would have a better record and would be challenging the yankees instead of trying to keep up in the wild card race. hehehe

Hey, if you hit like Manny I'd give you a day off as well - leading the AL in homers, top 5 in average and RBI and OBP (all along with Ortiz)...he can have a day when he wants one as far as I'm concerned. Yeah they lost that game, but blame the pitchers not Manny. And the only reason the Yanks don't have different hairstyles is because Darth won't let 'em! Why not have fun with your look, you're a millionaire living a charmed life - differentiate! You can have your robots, I'll take characters any day. Win or lose, at least they're allowed to be individuals.

Other than Jeter, who for the Yanks showed up last night??
You better hope you get Big Unit (and you REALLY better hope we don't), because there's a massive comeback brewin' in Beantown.

Agreed!!! Both Tejada and Ortiz were great and deserved better applause!

Thanks for the back-up regarding the applause for Matsui, Sheffield, Rivera and Torre! If you want to boo or dislike ARod, Giambi, Jeter, fine, but those guys above have done nothing, esp. Matsui who is so polite and just goes out there and plays his heart out.

Thought the All Star Game alittle boring. I think Clemens and Piazza were dreading each other too much and did not bother to communicate.

I think Piazza was tipping the batters - 'this one's gonna be low and outside' etc. ! Manny wanted a piece of him last fall, he got his revenge.

kevin-

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but this morning's paper says Randy Johnson will only go to the Yankees!!! Is this true?? You can't blame the guy but honestly he looks like he would fit in with your group of "characters".

Yeah, I heard that - apparently he'd narrowed it down to the Cards and Yanks, and the Cards don't have the money - we all know that the Yanks do (they paid more in luxury tax last year than many teams' total payrolls!). I agree that it would be a better fit for him in Boston's clubhouse, but there's probably something lingering between him and Schilling. That's baaaaaaaad news for the Sawx for sure, I know we lost another game in the standings last night. I might just have to concede if they land RJ ...

Or how about those Yankees vs Tigers last night= . Definitely a pitching problem, huh? On a positive note, was at a Mets game (lost again) but saw the best fireworks from Grucci they have ever had!! Does every stadium have this?

Imagine this, I went to Mohegan on Sunday and I had a Red Sox shirt on. I was walking through the mall area and a "gentleman" who walked past said "Go Yankees" humph. I was at one of the casino windows and the girl behind the counter said she couldn't wait in me, because of my tee short....humph. I guess CT is tooooo close to NY......

I have to admit...I think that is funny. My guess is the girl waited on you anyway...right? Back in April while in the Yankee Clubhouse we befriended a couple from Boston who were diehard Redsox fans (yes they were playing the Sox). They joined our party and we had a blast! Not all NYer's or Yankee Fans are that way or maybe I've just been living in NJ too long.

P.S. To Corrine: Re: the other post "Now that she's gone..." I'm a born and raised Long Island Girl...no offense taken.

I suppose (sigh..) Just kidding, it was actually pretty funny - never realized that I would be venturing into enemy territory . And she did wait on me, the guy behind me had a Red Sox hat on as well, I am sure she told him the same thing. I just thought that this was the perfect story to post on this thread......

Just don't try wearing that in Yankee Stadium or parts of NYC and you'll be fine! But seriously, most of us are pretty nice!

elisabeth - thanks! Some of my memories are antique shopping up in Lafayette, down in Chester and Lambertsville.

Took the kids on a mini-vac. to Baltimore to see a Yankee game last summer. All of us wore Yankee shirts...It amazed me how many Yankee fans were there. We almost were the majority. No comments, no fighting!! I know they are not the rivals like the Sox...what a nice crowd!! Not to mention nice stadium...loved it. Can't wait to go back.

I heard the stadium there was great. Every year we went down to Emerald Island, NC and stopped overnight in VA. Hubby always wanted to go but we never made it.
The games should be even better this year with everyone cheering Lee Mazzilli, Brooklyn born and bred, and such a nice guy.

It is a nice stadium, I'd say it was the blueprint for most of the newer parks that have been built. The old stadium was in a nasty part of town, but I had some great times there - even more great times getting lost on the way home at midnite...I'll never forget one time, the Sox had just swept the O's, and someone burned SOX SUX in huge letters across the infield. It was visible for many games before the grass/dirt healed . We were at Memorial Stadium's last game, and Camden's first. I used to see the Sox every time they came, and always wore my Sox gear w/o incident - you're right, the crowd's nice, not to mention we usually made up 30%+ as Sox fans.

OK, the latest on Big Unit to the Bronx centers around AZ getting Jorge Posada, along with some other players. He's one of the few that I respect on the Yanks, so it would pain me less to see the deal get done if it at least costs them Posada...not much talk about him going to the Sox, so I gotta hope it at least costs the Yanks something besides more money.

Well so you know Kevin the Yanks are not gonna trade Jorge. A all star catcher no way besides the yanks might be looking at other prospects besides johnson. Anyone that knows how the boss operates knows that there is the big deal everyone knows about then there is the one that is behind the scene that no one talks about to give you a hint it is a pitcher the mets have a supposed intrest in.

I wonder if Darth ever even sleeps, it seems like he's always working on slipping under the radar and sabotaging someone's hopes and dreams...I agree Jorge is too heavy a price to pay for RJ (for only a year or 2 tops).

Glad to have you back, I was wondering where you'd gone - even a nemesis can be missed

Well you know me Kevin.I stop by to check messages.Defend the honor of my Beloved Yankees. and sometimes be a pain in Somebodys backside. with all the Drama on some of the other Aruba boards. You know there is so much to check out.And I want you to know that another Aruba board finally got rid of a big Problem.Lets just say that it is good to have friends in Aruba That realize the Economic loss they may incur because a few A-Holes were ruining their boards with their rather useless and rude and crude questions and comments looks like Big Johnson is now NO MORE JOHNSON.Plus I gotta give credit to peeps like Scube who made me think and put a Idea :l out that I believe help get the board on at least the right track. they May not have Registration. But At least they are monintoring the boards. But hey let me be my usual pain in the ***. HOW'S THE RED SOX DOING .I Saw Manny's great catch : Hey The good News is FOOTBALL CAMP OPENS IN 5 DAYS GO RAIDERS

How about Manny's catch indeed - it takes a lot to catch a throw like that from so close...he's got skills! I still say he's a MAJOR threat for triple crown and MVP, with Ortiz breathing down his neck. If only the O's would take it easy on us - they're the only team in the East with a winning record against the Sox.

Big series coming up, I see you got all your big guns ready to face us - oh, that's right, your DL is starting to look like a team so I got confused. Brown and Mussina probably started the year #1 and 2 starters, now they're the beginning of my prophecy:
The Yanks will show their age and break down. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but just look out if the Sox get in the playoffs. I know you're scared mg_smile

Kevin Kevin.,Despite the Yankees looking like a MASH unit I see that the Yankees BEAT the DEAD SOX 8 to 7 and the sox and Schilling had the lead too so the Yanks came back to win Again. Knocked out Schilling Also. Man right now right after the game I am watching schilling sitting on the bench crying.WHAT THERE IS NO CRYING IN BASEBALL ,Kevin right now the sox are not even guranteed the Wild card spot. you know soon Moose and Kevin will be healthy and when that happens well.looks like another year in Boston with no Pennant and no world Series either.

Schilling wasn't crying, he was just mind-melding to the future, so he could see who he'd be facing in Game 1 of the LCS against the Angels.

Of course they aren't guaranteed the wild card spot, they never were - no more so than the Yanks are guaranteed the AL East title (although saying that's a stretch with the lead they've got).

Moose and Brown can get as healthy as they can, but Brown always breaks down again and Moose is always inconsistent. Besides, what the Yanks do has little to do with whether the Sox go to the playoffs or not.

Ah, ever the optimist, kevin! Ron is right, no crying in baseball.
The Yanks are great not from the payroll, but from ATTITUDE. Jeter insisted on playing with a broken hand. Nomar, on the other hand, hid in the last series. The story was "heel trouble", I think. Manny or Pedro are always complaining.

Congrats to Millar, though. I guess the the bleach is no longer affecting his play!

Corrine you are so right. ATITUDE. I mean hey look at what the Yankees have. Jeter has a fractured bone in his wrist. Gary Sheffield has a bad shoulder, Jason Giambi has intestional Parasites. Now that is nasty I wouldn't wish that even on the red sox. Our 2 starting picthers brown and mussina have been hurt. Steve Karsay who was supposed to be the set up man to Riveria has not even played at all this year or last and yet with all these injuries the Yankees at least for today are tied with the Cardinals for THE BEST RECORD IN BASEBALL. It takes more than talent to do that it is about putting on that Pin striped uniform and knowing what that means. Who has worn it and what you represent. After all do I have to go thru it again 26 times WORLD CHAMPIONS .One thing you said Kevin about nothing is guranteed well the one thing that is guranteed is that the Yankees will always field a good team and will be going for 1st place that is what is guranteed as long as Steinbrenner has the money and the balls to go after the best talent he can get .May not always work but He will try. And hey Maybe he will or he won't get Johnson but just to know that Randy has made it very clear that that is the place where he wants to be shows that the top players in Baseball know that if they want to at least have a chance to get into the WORLD SERIES the one team you want to play for is the NEW YORK YANKEES

It's funny years ago I hated Steinbrenner. Now I respect what he has done. He wants the best and pays them, but (I've said this before) tolerates no crap from these millionaires. They all work hard and have class. (yes, kevin and scube, even Jeter)
Raul Mondesi, etc. gone.
I enjoyed the old-timers (no, kevin, not Mussina and Brown) - got autographs from Guidry and Rick Cerone. Saw Goose Gossage, Mattingly, Mickey Rivers, of course Willie Randolph, Reggie. Scooter got a standing ovation. The tribute to Thurman Munson are so nice, esp. when Lou Pinella came back in the Devil Ray uniform. No Dave Winfield or Chris Chambliss though. Do you know why?

Go back to the early 90's or so, Steinbrenner still had money (not sure about the rest), but they stunk. Stunk. I repeat, nothing is guaranteed.

So the Sox came back last night, in the 9th, down by 2, against 'the best reliever in baseball'. How's that feel? And ask A-Rod about crying - he cried like a baby because he got hit on the arm he uses to pull out his wallet. After taking a shot to the face from Varitek, he probably wants to cry some more.

The Sox have heart and passion, the Yankmees have tradition - which is better? We'll see in October and November

Kevin Kevin It seems lately that the Red sox are making a very nasty habit of throwing at Yankee batters from last year and Posada to Sheffield, now to A rod, I don;t know is this how the sox want to take us out can't win without trying to hurt us huh. well hey even if the sox win tonite it don't make a difference we will still be leading you and Remember there is always a payback coming .I mean you do have to come to Yankee stadium again. And above all else nothing is gonna help that lousy infield.plus the worst problem is that you still have to play Baltimore and Tronto Why In heavens name would you want to piss off A Rod. they tried that against Sheffield and you saw gary ready to take a bat to Pedros head this time I say if that is gonna stop these clowns from hitting batters so be it. If the red sox need something like this to bring them together then they are a lousy gutless team .I was always taught that you win or lose on the field play the game right. hitting batters REMEMBER that will come back

Ok, I doubt Arroyo intentionally threw at A-Rod. And as far as bean-balls go, that Yankee great Clemens was certainly famous for plunking more than his fair share of batters.

A-Rod and others should take a lesson from Don Baylor. Not once in his career did he ever glare or stare down a pitcher after being hit by a pitch. He just took his base. Not like these million dollar cry-babies today.

My point exactly, that's why Varitek popped him in the face. He had to glare at the pitcher to act tough, like 'you hit me?', and then he challenged Varitek saying 'f*** you' over and over - what did he expect?? Take your base, let your pitcher take care of biz. Unless he's chicken...

Let Gary or anyone else come at Pedro or anyone else with a bat and see what happens. Just win it on the field - like the Sox did last night against Rivera.

...and last night against Contreras. The least amount of runs scored by the Sox in the series was 9 - nice pitching, Yanks.

Easy to hit someone in the face when YOU have a catcher's mask on, kevin!

As for last night, you know how we feel about Contreras! Blew the whole game! However, I believe we are still 8 1/2 games up!

Agreed, he was wearing his mask at the time, but it all happened so fast, and if Arod wouldn't have acted so prima-donnaly NOTHING would have happened. If I'm Varitek and suddenly Arod starts shouting FU at me, I'm too mad to consider waiting to take off my mask - I'm pummeling him. It does appear that Varitek may have hurt his wrist in the melee, so maybe you'll get the last laugh on this one...

As for Contreras, it looked like he was really starting to pitch well ever since his family arrived...except against Boston. I've said it before, they got quite a Murderer's Row at the plate, and it wasn't even the big boys (MVPs) that hurt the Yanks in this series. Mueller and Millar and Damon did the damage...

This is setting up to be a great stretch run, and admit it or not I know you and Ron are scared of the Sox. How could you not be, 8.5 games ahead or not? The playoffs are what counts, and we'll be there.

What about Nomar being hit!!!! Did he go after the pitcher??? NO! He was classy & took his base. I don't think that ball was thrown intentially.

I agree with this. Nomar always shows class, unlike Millar, but as I have said before, so do Matsui, Sheffield, Posada, Bernie Williams, and Tony Clark.

kevin, you are right too. Mueller, Millar and Damon took us down! But as for being nervous in the playoffs?? Nah.

Nothing, except club the ball all over (and out of) the park for 3 days.

Every once in a while Pedro loses, same for Schilling - although I wouldn't say you beat him. You beat Foulke, just like we beat Rivera. And Giambi?? The only person scared of him is his (former) steroid supplier. Sheffield, are you listening?

Listen to any expert, if the Sox make the playoffs they're gonna be the odds-on favorite: Best pitching, best hitting, best hair, best character, best TEAM.

Best robot imitation: Yankees

I hear you shivering, just thinking about facing Pedro and Schilling 5/6 out of a 7 game series...

I knew Millar hit 3 homers on Saturdays game, by your comment I thought he was acting like a dope - but I guess you were looking at it from a Yankees point of view, ahhh that explains it.

The Sox scored a million runs again last night, you just can't keep 'em down! I see that Mo blew another save for the Yanks, and it took a Sox reject (Clark) to save their game for them, while an ex-Yank finished up for the Sox against the O's.

Too bad it won't be the Sox pounding him again

nanc-

To me, Millar does act like a dope - "Cowboy Up???????", the long hair, the bleached hair, etc. However, I give him credit for his hitting against my Yanks.

Millar (as my husband calls him) is goofy, different from a dope. A dope charges the mound, overreacts and starts trouble/fights. Millar only starts trends, like this one he is just on with the shaved head bleached hair thing. Look what is has done for him since the all-star game. Whatever works to get the team together and some wins.

I totally agree - the last thing we need are robots for our athletes, and the Sox are definitely not robots. I don't know that Millar ever had long hair, but he's lead the way in the bleaching and shaving craze that the Sox rode last year. Once again, he's leading the way with his spirit and enthusiasm - even if it leads to bizarre hairstyles and slogans. I never really liked 'Cowboy Up', but it seemed to catch on and motivate them.

Gotta love individuals and characters - the Sox got 'em!

Pedro just likes to remind hitters who's in charge of the plate. Every now and then he accidentally nicks someone, is that so wrong?

OK, so Pedro's a bit of a troublemaker...ask Zimmer what'll happen to you if you charge the mound on him - and that's if Varitek doesn't stop you first.

The rain cost us against the O's last night, but nothing can stop the roll we're on. I see El Duque checked in to the infirmary last night, you better hope RJ comes yer way...
