Default favorite foods

picture this. you are in aruba for one night. you know nothing about the restaurants. you only know the type of food you want. it is your favorite and every vacation spot you go to you try that specific type of food. in fact, it is the food you would have to choose if the doctor said that you must pick which food you will eat for the rest of your life. it can be italian, chinese, mexican, etc but only one style of cooking. which would it be?

and to get even more selective, what in that specialty would you pick as your favorite meal in that style?

By tomorrow, I'm sure my answer will have changed, but, for this afternoon anyway, I'm going with Italian. It might sound pedestrian but I've actually thought about this in the past and I sort of concluded back then that, if I could only eat one dish for the rest of my life, that dish would be lasagne.

Categorically speaking, seafood is pretty high on my list, too. See, there I go. I'm already second guessing myself. But, when you throw in the part about I'm on Aruba when all this transpires, it starts to cloud my thinking.

Good Question. I am spoiled being here in NY as we have so many different styles From Thai, to Mooraccan, To different regions in Central and South America to African.

If I had to choose just one. And I love all kinds it would probably be Asian or Southeast Asian that would include Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and their are 2 reasons 1) because they can make it Hot and spicy, I do like my food like that sometimes. 2) like charlie said I love my seafood and their are plenty of seafood dishes that can be made and they can also be hot and spicy.

Plus they seem to have the right mixture of veggies also in their dishes so it would also be eating healthy.

A good steak is just hard to beat...but If it was the only thing I had to eat...give me fried chicken any day.

For me, it's fish. My family doesn't eat it at all, so I rarely have it home. I always have it out and actually seek restaurants that specialize in fish dishes...be it shellfish or a filet. When we are out, I don't care if my family can find something they like on the menu or not....I cook for them all the time, so when I am out of the kitchen, I eat fish.

Your post got me thinking about another cuisine altogether that fits into the "you're on Aruba" theme. Indonesian. Indonesian cuisine is a world unto itself and Aruba's ability to offer it is probably underexploited. Aruba has as legitimate a claim to authentic Indonesian cuisine as any place in the western hemisphere.

Indonesians chefs can certainly fill the bill as far as seafood is concerned, as well.
