Default how do you spend your days off?

it's a slow sunday on all of the boards. it got me to thinking. how do you spend those days off? i don't mean vacation days in aruba. i mean that weekend, national holiday, or any other days off that aren't for illness.

what do you do in your spare time. do you have hobbies, favorite activities, special chores only done on those long weekends? how about if you are snowed in?

Days off? What days off? No, just kidding. I write most every day. But I'll go for long bicycle rides, work on my blog, go visit my pals who still work on the river, and drive my wife crazy. I also like short trips into NYC and into the deepest reaches of Pennsylvania.

Sometimes I go up into the anthracite coal regions of Schuylkill County then on a diagonal up toward Clarks Summit, out Route 6 along that northern tier of the state. Other times I'll head to Somerset County where I travel pal lives, double back down along old 22 and cut in toward Gettysburg. Sort of Zig-Zag along the non-turnpike roads. Gas at these prices has clipped my travel some but then again, from these places springs some good story material, so I call it "research."

The other thing I do is check out other great places to travel to. I'm enamored with Spain but meditating on another trip. So I'll surf the internet, drool over photos and tales from the other side of the world. Try to figure clever ways to route a trip, save the money to go, and what to write about when I'm there.

Anyway....

I love movies....I can go to a theater..and see the show...then come out...and go to another show...I have wondered why..and I think..that I like to escape for the world when ever I can....when I am engrossed in a movie...I can forget how ugly this world can be...and all the negative there is...

I do not have hobbies....am not handy...I have a large screen at home...and watch comedy's...and westerns of yesteryear...and action ..who done it movies.

I often kid...that I am already for old age...just make sure my remote has batteries...No joke...I have cleaned at lots of retirement homes...and I think...this is the life....eat...nap...watch tv...and repeat...I can wear depends...I'm not proud

We also go camping a lot...I fish some...wish I would get in to reading more...Georgene loves to read.

Aruba..is my movie...while I am on the Island...I feel free from the uglys of the everyday world...If it makes sense...my soul feels better there.

SanNic44...Does Aruba inspire you to write?
I had never written any thing..in my entire life...until I met Aruba... and then I almost couldn't stop...about our trip..my life...my wife..my family..my love for mankind...I felt a passion come out of being there...Standing out at the lighthouse as the sun came up..in the wee hours of the morning....feeling the trade winds on my face...and watching the white waters splashing up against the rocks...I was moved like I have never been moved...

and when it came time to write...It just flowed out of me like a volcano..I had to force my self to stop.

I try to play a lot of sports. For instance, this weekend I played in a beach volleyball tournament at a gym I used to belong to. It takes up all day Sat and Sun. Next weekend I'm playing in a golf tournament up in MA for my friends church. Other than that, lots of family stuff and as little yard work as possible.

That's my neck of the woods. I was raised in Scranton, and my Dad's buried in Dalton... right outside of Clark Summit.

Oh, I have to think about the question sherry asked in this thread!!

I Love Aruba Re: how do you spend your days off?

I like to bicycle. We did a couple of Timberline Bicycle Tours some years ago out west, one thru Yellowstone and one thru the Canadian Rockies. Now we just do day rides. One of my goals is to ride a century (100 miles). So far, my longest ride in one day is 78miles and that was last year when we did a 2 day charity ride for MS. For the last 35 years or so, I've had a dream of touring Europe by bicycle. I hope to do that when we retire.
On another note, BP did you do a trip report this year? I was so looking forward to it. You DO have a real talent for writing.

Bobbie

By 9AM Mon. thru Fri. my granddaughter, 11, Camille and I are at F.I.S.H. (Faith In Serving Humanity) where we make sandwiches every day for the 2200 needy kids and elderly in our city. This is a strickly volunteer program. The monies are donated by all of the local churches and the lunches consist of, either a ham and cheese, turkey and cheese or peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a piece of fresh fruit, bag of chips and pkg. of some sort of cookes. Sandwiches differ daily. When the lunches are delivered they also distribute cold milk to each person that gets a lunch. This is our fourth week this summer and we have been doing this since the program started 3 years ago. At the end of the summer on the last day of lunch making, all the school aged kids get a new backpack filled with school supplies. We also help pack these up for delivery.
We both love giving of our time daily to help out. It is very up-lifting for both of us. On Friday's my daughter-in-law also goes with us. Rest of the day we usually spend in the pool.
