I'm in Nacogdoches, Texas, which is directly in the projected path for Ike after landfall. So far, the biggest effect I've seen has been thousands (and thousands and thousands) of cars coming into town from the south. We are supposed to have 30-40 mph winds and a ton of rain tomorrow. I'll be fine, I'm sure.

I know we have board members in the Houston area. I'm more concerned about them than I am about myself. Chrisinhouston, you guys take care.

No problems here yet. The first bands arrived in this part of Texas about an hour ago.

I know what you mean about those foolhardy meteorologists. Jim Cantore must have made someone real mad at The Weather Channel. They always send him right to the center of the worst of it and make him broadcast from a parking lot or whatever.

I have many friends that live all across Texas since I used to live in San Antonio. Our prayers are with everyone in Texas and in the hurican's path. Please be safe. Please heed the evacuation orders.

as electricity returns to texas and other areas affected by ike, will all of you that post here please check in? we know for some it will take weeks but it is still important to us no matter when it is.

Consider me "checked in." It was pretty wild for a while here. Power was out for about 10 hours yesterday and I didn't get internet access restored until about 1/2 an hour ago. But I'm safe and sound and none the worse for the wear.
