We will be voting on Tuesday. We'll probably go to the polls around 10:30 in the morning. We've had pretty good luck in the past with short lines if we go at that time. IMHO, voting is not only a privilege and a right, it is also a duty.

It was reported on our local tv stations Friday that over 1.5 million voters stood in lines from 8 to 10 hours in some counties to do early voting here in Ga. That is 35% of our population that can vote. I did early voting, but did not have to stand in line.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I for one will be so happy to not seeing and hearing all the candidates ads on radio and tv. It seems like I have seen these things for way to long. JMHO. Oh, and some of those people that were standing in those long lines in the cold weather we had here that were interviewed stated they were voting for Obama. |

There is no early voting in NY. Of course I will be voting on Tuesday. As soon as I get off work at 12pm early afternoon I will head to the local voting place which happens to be the Local High School and by that time there should be no lines or at least I hope so but if there are that's OK I consider voting a right and a privilege And to many people in the past have fought in the courts and on the battlefield and have died for this to become a reality for me to shirk my duty as An American citizen to voice my satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the govt on the policies that they make. ![]() Last edited by Ron B; Sunday, November 2nd, 2008 at 04:41 PM. |

You're right Ron, there is no early voting in NY, only absentee balloting. As an election inspector for MANY years here in NY, if your name is NOT in the poll books, do NOT fill out an affadavit ballot.....go see your local Admisitrative Judge and get a court order to vote on the machine in your district. The judge will verify for you that you are a registered voter and will give you a court order to bring back to your polling place at which time, you will be allowed to vote on the machine.
I have first hand experience at what happens to provisional balloting....the next day, they are all brought to court and the attorneys for both sides have a field day with them throwing them all out for 1) the envelopes not quite being completely sealed 2) a pen mark on the envelope 3) an "i" not dotted......etc...... This is TOO important of an election for your vote NOT to count this time. I also believe it is a right afforded to all of us in this country...not a priviledge.

I agree with Bobbie and others. Voting is not just a right or a privilege. It is a duty.
I have to show a photo ID to vote and I have no problem with that. I know some that equate that requirement with attempts to disenfranchise certain voters in the past, but I don't see it that way in this day and age.
