Just found this thread.. guess I should add my story! My name is Julie (35) & the "Hub" is Mark (37). We live in Phoenixville PA (home of the original Blob movie theater). I work for a payroll company and he is a Technical Project Manager currently job hunting. I grew up in South Jersey & Ocean City NJ and would love to live back at the Jersey shore. The Hub & I met on Match.com in summer 2001 and were married in Nov. 2003. No kids as of yet
hopefully someday soon.. just have to enjoy the great nieces for now. We have a kitty named Noah who we adopted from the SPCA last summer when he was 9 months old. Noah is a little nut.. he loves to talk to us, has his favorite blankie and bear, chases flashlights and shadows, and plays fetch with his favorite toy mousies!! We want to get another doggy someday (we lost our little Mandee, yorkie-poo, in January, she was 12). I want another small dog and he of course wants a big dog! We're going to wait and see where we end of living before we get another doggie. As for Aruba, we're been there 3 times.. got engaged in June 2003 on our 1st trip, went back in Nov. for our honeymoon and were just there this past May.

Hi Jewell - mice to hear that match.com worked for you! I considered it, actually began the process of getting started with them, but them met Loren on a blind date. Ah yes, the rest is history! We got married in Sept '03, so we're right with you heading toward our 2 yr anniversary this fall.

Julie - He is adorable! I have an 8 yr. old Persian and last year my daughter brought home a tiny tabby. She is a year now, stayed pretty small but a real cutie. She weighs about 5 lbs. but is the boss of the household! |

Thanks all! Please NO! Noah doesn't need any more temptation!!! He has already brought us the kitchen sponge and glass mop thing and dropped them on our bed.. of course the Hub asked why I would do something like that! LOL!!! This is his first experience with a young cat, but he's loving it, especially when Noah starts getting that 'psycho kitty' look!!! My last cat (Pooky Bear) was 16 and didn't do too much but curl up with you and want his belly rubbed.. Mark thinks that some of Pooky's spirit is in Noah. Oooh.. persians are gorgeous! The tabby is only 5 pounds? Wow! Didn't think they could stay that small.. Noah's pretty long and about 10 pounds or so.. LOL! But then again, no cat (or person) stays small for long in my family
We will defintely check out the SPCA again (my first cat when I was young was from an SPCA) for our next doggie (and kitty if I get my way )!!As for Match.com, we both still laugh and tease each other about it! We both say we want a refund for false advertising... my hair was different from my picture and his physical description was a little different! We defintely are the perfect 'match' for each other!!! Hi, I actually live in Aruba, and it is so nice to see that there are still people out there who do not consider this island the root of all evil!

ag - anyone who's been to Aruba has only nice things to say about the island and its people. It truly captures your heart.
It's ironic to me personally that the flame throwers are the people who've never been, and who were never going to go anyway. They've become the know it alls! As to my three weeks, it's never long enough... Hopefully, when I retire, I'll buy more timeshare and stay even longer!! Quote:

I agree with everything Elaine and everyone else has said in regards to loving Aruba! Can't wait to get back and spend my two weeks there! I just purchased another week, but will not be able to go for 3 weeks until I retire. Got a great deal and could not pass it up! We travel to Aruba from California and would not pass up our vacation for the world! I think my countdown is 200 + days... |

I believe people who have experienced the peaceful nature of Aruba, and it's people, truly understand that this was all propaganda. None of us were ever swayed by the media. Things happen here ( in the US) all the time. We never hear about them all. There's a lot we don't know that goes unnoticed under our own eyes. We are not perfect here. In my own 50 mile radius, we can't find missing youths that hit the local news a short three months ago. Still, the media hasn't released the findings...or maybe there are none. I know one got away, but what happened to the others? Only 12 years old or so. It didn't make national news...therefore, their lives don't count. so I guess, it's all the same. don't worry. It's just the hype Natalee's mom put forward to the media, as she felt totally helpless

Hi Everyone!
Guess this was the place to introduce myself instead of the thread that I said hi in earlier. See Elaine, you wouldn't of needed to get that whip out if I would of paid more attention and found this thread earlier! LOL But thank you to everyone that welcomed me already. Like I said before, I know some of you from the other board and the Swamp, and the rest I hope I get to know. Now just a little bit about myself. Yep, I'm Sandy and I'll be 51 on January 3rd. I really don't mind because it's only a number and it's how you feel inside that counts. On the inside, my heart, I mostly feel like a kid and I try to enjoy life the best I can. How you feel on the outside counts too, and some days may not be so great, but I really can't complain most of the time. I just don't plan on growing up too soon and that's OK with me. There are times when I think my husband and my kids wish I would though. LOL Too bad! I don't want to and no one can make me! Speaking of them. Tom (he'll be 51 next March and always makes fun that I'm OLDER than him) and I just celebrated our 26th Anniversary on October 4th. Our daughter Lisa is 23 and our son Matthew is 15. Two great kids. Lisa just moved out of the house for the 3rd time and Matthew is already making bets when she'll be back. He's a very smart young man and knows his sister well. Maybe that's why I haven't bought new bedroom furniture yet. We have 3 cats. Chester, Missy Sue, and Angel. We also have a Flat Coat Retriever named Jake. I was born in Gary, Indiana, but moved to Aurora Colorado in 1970. Tom was born in Denver and has lived here his whole life. We lived in Parker, CO for 20 years, but now we live in Aurora. Moved 4 miles down the road to get into a different school district for Matthew. Tom is an AeroSpace Engineer and worked on things like the Columbia Space Shuttle when it first was built in the early 1980's. He continued working in the space program for over 25 years. Now he's working on a new generation of weather satellites. I worked for a Brokerage Firm for over 18 years. Right now I've been volunteering at local hospital and I also volunteer at their gift shop as a buyer. We went to Aruba for our 25th Anniversary last year and fell in love with it. It was also our first time out of the US. Can you believe that? I read how so many people have traveled so much and this was Tom's and my first time out of the US! It was also our first trip WITHOUT the kids. We have traveled all through the US and have seen this great country of ours, but now that we got a taste of Aruba, we want to go back! We couldn't go this year, but we did get to take a trip to Yellowstone, another place we love. Tom would love to visit Italy, where his family is from ,and I would like to visit Ireland, where my dad's family is from. I would also love to visit Alaska some day. Tom really doesn't care to go, but I think it would be beautiful. I have a love of bears and moose and I love to study and read about them. I also have some great sculptures that I collect. I wish we could go to Aruba every year plus visit all the other places we want to see, but I don't see that happening. So I guess we'll take it as it comes and try to plan trips in the future. We're hoping to go to Aruba next year because the one week we were there last year, we didn't get to see nearly all the things we wanted to see, or do all the things we wanted to do. I guess we became beach lizards, and even though we did quite a bit, we did enjoy our quiet time at the Bucuti on the beach and in the ocean. What do we like to do? We love to camp, fish, go 4wheeling. horsebackride, and anything that has to do with the outdoors. Even though we love the beach and the ocean, we love the mountains too. We try to pack up the fishing and camping gear whenever we can and head for the hills. I have always loved sitting around a campfire at night enjoying the evening and then waking up at dawn to elk, deer, or maybe a moose in our campsite! We just love nature. OK...............so I have rambled on long enough. I ramble and go "off topic". I could go on and on and anyone that knows me knows I usually do. Some of my e-mails can look and read like a book. My POOR friends! At least I think they're still my friends. LOL Sometimes they e-mail me just to say hi and I can turn a simple "hi" into pages and pages. Anyway, HI to everyone and thank you for the warm welcome that some of you have already given me. Sandy

I hope we get back there next year too. We wanted to go this year for our anniversary the first week of October, but it was hard with Matthew in high school and when Lisa moved out, we had no one to keep an eye on him and make sure he got to school, plus we didn't want to leave him alone. We may have to change our plans next year and go while he's out for the summer and go in June, July, or the beginning of August. Guess we'll have to wait and see. Thanks Again!

Bon bini, Sandy!
I've seen you in the Swamp, glad you found your way over here, too. Thanks for sharing the bio info with us. Now, do the rest of us a favor. Go back and edit out that part where you were expounding on the joys and virtues of camping! (It's kind of an inside joke - we recently had a bb party in Atlantic City and afterwards, suggestions were posted about where to have the next one. One of our moderators suggested we all go camping. Let me just say, try as he might, he could not convince the rest of us that camping was anything other than uncomfortable!)

My wife's idea of roughing it is a Holiday Inn without cable. So camping would never work!

I saw that too Charlie! Sandy, you have a compadre in Kevin here, who loves to fish and camp. The rest of us aren't too keen....................
Loved reading your bio. How brave to mention your age! Good for you! The trouble with bringing your kids to Aruba is that then they ALWAYS want to come! My daughter is so insulted we are not bringing her this year, as she is in college. She had been going since she was 12, and loves it too! I think it is great that you have seen so much of this country. Some of us never have! |

Oops!
Sorry everyone! Didn't know about the camping thing. I will say one thing. Yes, we do go fishing and camping and we've taken the kids ever since they've been small. Still at 23 and 15, both kids still love it and so do we. But that doesn't mean I don't like luxuries too. I guess I like the best of both worlds and depending on my moods and what I feel like doing, that's what we do. For our anniversary this year, we rented a gorgeous cabin in the mountains with a fireplace next to the bed and a jacuzzi in the room. It was right next to the river and had a beautiful deck on it so we could sit outside at night and watch the elk bed down. Sorry, we were still in the mountains, so it was still rustic, but ScubaDad49, it did have cable! Not that we had any use for it. And in the morning a couple of men were fishing in the river, so Kevin would be happy too! I love the luxuries of a hotel as much as the next person, but I have to admit I will always love the outdoors. BTW...............No, I can't sleep on the ground like I use to, my bones and mucles won't let me spend the night on the ground. When Lisa was small we use to sleep in the back of our truck and in a small tent. As we got older it was bigger tents. Then we got a popup camper. We sold that and now we're looking for a newer popup camper, or something similar. I figure as long as Matthew at 15 is loving his fishing and camping and staying our of trouble, that's OK with me. But since I don't want to start off on the wrong foot over here, I will TRY to hush.............unless I'm asked, and by what I'm reading, that would only be by Kevin. LOL Ladies, BTW........When I go camping, I still wear some make-up and fix my hair. Over the years I have perfected that.

Sandy, one of the places I have traveled to in the US was Colorado. I stayed with friends in Denver, a while ago and then they took me to Boulder and of course, Golden, where we toured the Coors plant - all wound up in the tasting room all day...............
I remember the beauty of the Rockies and the colorful sunset, due to the smog, they told me. But I really enjoyed my trip there. Are you near these cities? This was many moons ago, before I was married.

Last year Loren wanted to try snowboarding, so we rented a cabin in the mts of West VA that sounds just like yours - fireplace, hot tub, and a river out back. Believe it or not (I don't!) I didn't bring my pole with me (Elaine, bite your tongue!),so I didn't do any fishing.
Camping is one of my favorite things to do, especially when fishing is included. I used to go appx 10-15 times every summer, basically every weekend I wasn't at the beach. Now that I'm married, I thank my lucky stars that I managed to find someone that enjoys it too - not as much as me, but she loves it. Come to think of it, I should be thankful that I found anyone period, considering all that time spent in the woods

We go every June/July to Aruba...hope you can go during that time next year! Maybe we can meet...that would be great! Suzie |

He loves music, not dancing. But to answer your question, we don't live near Golden or Boulder. It's clear on the other side of Denver for us to drive. How did you feel at the end of your day after your tasting session? I can't drink Coors. Did you get a headache? I hope you come back someday!

That would be GREAT to meet you! Maybe something will work out. Wanda picked me up 2 t-shirts from the Balashi Logo Shop. She picked up Tom a baseball cap too. She just sent them out this week, so I haven't gotten them yet. She said something about the shirts having 2004 on them, so that will be cool because that's when we were there! She was looking for a zip up hooded sweatshirt for me, but I don't think she found one. I have one from Red Sail Sports I got last year, but I was looking for one that said Aruba on it. We got both kids a great navy with red lettering pullover hooded sweatshirt when we were there last year, but never could find a zip up. Guess we'll look next time we go. I'll let you know when I get the t-shirts. Thanks for the welcome!
