Good thread, sherry, and I hope a lot of people will weigh in with their thoughts.
First off ~ I wish the new President elect well, and pray that he'll be kept safe. I'm quite impressed that instead of laying back and resting after the grueling schedule he's been on for the past 2+ years, that he's jumping right into the job that lays ahead of him. Each issue you asked about in the poll is important to me, however, for me personally, the economy is most important. I've worked a lot of years, and continue to work fulltime. I'm at the age in my life where I thought I'd financially sail through my older years with no problem. Now I have great trepidation.. I have great hope that perhaps with dialogue between leaders, the world will become a safer place; that war will ebb, and home terrorism will be at a much lower level. As to racism ~ unfortunately, in my opinion, it's generational. I honestly don't believe in my lifetime that it will cease, but I see great hope that the young people of today have much more tolerance for people of other color, religion and culture, and in generations to come, we will indeed become one United States. I've used the word "hope" a lot; that's what our new President gives me. He inspires me to believe that life will become easier, and we'll be on more solid ground. There are no instant miracles, nor is there a magic wand he can wave to repair everything that's broken in a quick manner. It took us a long time to get into this disrepair, and it's going to take a long time to get out of it. No quick fixes. Patience is what we need, and I think that at the end of the road, the United States will once again be respected by the world; that we as a people will be better off. I'm totally optimistic, and haven't felt that way in a very long time. |

I have to agree that it is the economy right now. We are heading for another depression. Instead of tax cuts and fear of government intervention, we need more spending to stimulate the economy and more government control over Wall Street. We need to get out of Iraq and spend those billions on our intrastructure and our own people. Our pensions and 401K's are in the toilet right now, which is scary.
Europeans hated Bush and our agressive attittude towards the rest of the world. Obama will be a huge asset in dealing with them and possibly developing more allies. He represents hope and change in this country and he has admitted it will not happen overnight. I have complete respect and confidence in him, which I have not had for eight years. OK, off my soapbox now!! |

I want to congratulate President elect Obama. Yes I voted for him proudly and I am glad to say that My father got to live long enough to see in his and my lifetime a Biracial son of America be elected to the Highest office in the land. Now to get to the top topic. No doubt It's the economy. The banking industry is in shambles the Auto Industry is ready to go belly up the airline Industry who already have been to washington to ask for a bailout a few Years ago will be going back there soon to ask for help. The housing Market is in a bust. It is just one big Mess and It is going to take a lot of work to try to get all of thIs mess under control. Or at least get it to where people will have confidence to invest and buy. ![]() |

for ron and anyone else who would like to weigh in on political threads, don't forget we have blogs. two blogs are talking politics at the moment and you are welcome to start more if you would like to under your own names. we are keeping deep political conversations off the main board but anyone is welcome to chat about anything on blogs as long as we remember the basic ground rules of civility, lol.
here's links to the ones that already started... Today's The Day! - Aruba Forums at Visit Aruba a new beginning - Aruba Forums at Visit Aruba |

You don't have to worry Sherry. That was my last semi Political post.
I have always felt that American Politics should Never be discuss on a board about another country as sooner or later things will get HOT and Heavy and things will get worse as I have seen on some of the other Aruba boards that broach this subject. Some very bad things were said and even I had to leave one of the boards for a while Now that it is over lets get back to the real fun stuff Thinking about Aruba and where to get my Buzz on ![]() and where the good times Never end.![]() |
