Fantastic for an evening in, or eat there!! My family always gets to go and eat at hotel. Meals are very large, the meat is fantastic. Accompanied by the traditional sides. Some of the best fried plantaines on the island, IMHO.

One evening we decided to have dinner on our bungalow balcony at the Bucuti. I had the surf & turf (tenderloin & grouper) and Chris had a rack of ribs. They both came with potatoes, corn, and plantain. The portions were huge. I saved the grouper for another day. The tenderloin was thin – but very tender and tasty. $24 for everything.

Discovered this place last year and were happy to try it again this year. I had the chicken white meat both years, EXCELLENT! Very tender and a huge breast of chicken, I ate all of it! The side dishes are good too, like the potato salad that is actually more like mashed redskins with some seasoning. Hubby had ribs and as he put it "this is good eatin!" He also finished the meat but couldn't finish the side dishes, just too much but you can't stop eating. We have done take out and this year we ate there, no ambience or anything, traffic going by, etc. but it's ready in about 10 minutes after ordering and you can even call ahead. Oh, we paid $21 for our two dinners and two cokes this year. We had it for lunch and only ate appetizers for dinner LATER! ha ha

According to Rona Coster:

King Ribs, the naked concrete shack on the boulevard, closed and is being torn down in honor of upcoming construction on the lot. The place, in principle a valuable piece of real estate – providing the harbor moves as planned to Barcadera, was already earmarked in the past for the construction of condominiums under the name of Portofino. As the harbor did not move, the lot is now home to a number of businesses including the ever-expanding Teak House which keeps getting bigger and better, now under the management of Miss Perfect, better known as Lynn Maduro. King Ribs serving ribs and more, Aruban style, will probably identify a new location and re-establish itself to satisfy the local appetite for truly chewy stuff. Boil, Honey, most ribs must be boiled first, before just plopping and burning them on the grill.

Went there on Sunday evening. $10.00 buys you 3 pieces of ribs, boneless breast of chicken, mashed potatoes, cole slaw & bbq sauce. The ribs and chicken were good, but not as good as in the past. There weren't ribs cooking, but already made in the back. As a result, the food wasn't that hot. But for an inexpensive good meal, you can't beat it.

We have always bought the ribs to take back to the condo. Buy 2 orders and feed 3 with some left over. They were the best ribs on the island. Also loved the garlic potatoes and the plantains. $7 for half a rack with sides and $10 for a full rack with sides. Can't beat the price. Tried to find them in Nov when we were there and was told they were relocating. Am glad to hear that they have now opened and look forward to trying them again. Hope they are as good as they were at the old place.

When Are they REALLY open?

We would drive by and a sign said "Open Daily". Later we would go back about 6:00 pm and they were closed. This happened a couple of times. I know they are on "Aruba Time" but it was frustrating.

At the intersection going to town after the Grocery stores and before the Valaro Gas Station turn left. It is up on your right just past the KLM building and across from the TOY Store.

I know that location. Gary - Did you ever try calling them?

I have never had their food before, but I will have 2 weeks to try. If I have to--I will put a sign on their doors saying --BigPapa is HUNGRY - call me...and leave my cell phone #.

I didn't have their number. We ended up going to Smoky Joes and had some good ribs. They have regular, dry rub, and spicy hot. I had the dry ribs which were good but needed an extra beer. Nancy had the regular and they were very good.

I Love Aruba Re: King Ribs

Glad to hear they have reopened (or appear to have reopened). Always looked forward to takeout which usually results in dinner that night and lunch the next day. Good food, great price .

Another place for "quick" food is El Patio. Open 23 hours a day so no matter when your flight gets in, you can get something to eat. Local food good price. Nothing fancy.

55 days and counting.

BP - thanks for the update. Could always count on "the King" for those times when you didn't want to go out or didn't want to leave the beach too early. Always enough left overs for lunch the next day also.

25 days to go and getting itchy especially after the snow and cold we had last week in Southern Connecticut.

Thumbs up Re: King Ribs

I started going there even before they put a roof on the place. I think the food is great. We usually stop for ribs on the way from the airport to The Marriott on our first day of vacation.

King Ribs was excellent, food and price. They did not take charges; had to be cash. They were closed in August 2005; had to relocate. Does anyone know where they are now located? And what are their hours? I know hours were limited the last time I was there.

Hope this helps. From Eagle Beach & Hi Rises: L.G. Smith Blvd past the supermarkets. At the the sign for Da/Pearle Vision Center, take the next left. Wendy's is on the right. Just after that building in what looks to be kind of an alleyway, is where King Ribs is. Open only on weekends. MAP: King Ribs New Location

We make an annual pit stop here. Definitely not fine dining, best to do take-out. The ribs are very tasty.

My wife and I took in King Ribs this Sunday at lunch after shopping out at the few shops open near the high rise hotels as everything in downtown is closed. As mentioned they are up a block north of the Wendy's just west of downtown, very easy to find and though they don't have a lot of outdoor seating please give them a try even if you eat in your car or go down to one of the beaches.

I spoke with the owner and he explained that they were for many years off of the main drag facing the container cargo area as the owner of the lot was planning a big building and willing to give them a prime spot in front; well apparently things fell through and the lot was sold and they lost their promised space and even took the new owner to court but to no avail. They plan to do the weekend thing temporarily until they get a permanent place near the high rise area!!!

What can I say, fantastic ribs, moist chicken and slices of rare steak with the usual accompiments. They do not have a beer license but serve all kinds of soda and water at reasonable prices. We took leftovers back to the hotel and I think we will get our airplane food there next Sunday before we leave. Imagine the people around us on the Continental flight unwrapping the silly hamburgers and we are eating steak or ribs and a nice red wine!!!

chris, tsa will take any meat products from you if they see them, and they will. even if you swear you are eating them before you board the plane they will take them. it is illegal to bring any meat products into the states that aren't sealed in a specific way. otherwise, i would be first in line with leftover food from king ribs, lol.
