On our first breakfast here in 2004, we started with a frozen cappuccino and a café mocha (careful they’re huge!). We also ordered a couple of sodas (not realizing how big the coffee drinks would be). I ordered the potato pancakes and bacon. Chris ordered the special: scrambled eggs, french toast, bacon, and coffee/tea. The scrambled eggs were the best either of us had ever had. The potato pancakes were also very good and I know good potato pancakes. All prices were very reasonable.

We had a similar dining experience in 2005, except that the service was incredibly slow! I think that they had staff issues that day, as we rarely saw ANYONE around.

Our favorite breakfast spot (besides our balcony) in Aruba. Love the potato pancakes, which I'd never had before. The portions are big, and the prices are reasonable.

I had read on this board how great Villa Germania is, so naturally I had to go and try the potato pancakes. Did not like them at all!! They were very greasy and had kind of a sour taste. Not at all like the ones I've had here.

Love the potato pancakes with those mimosa's made w/fresh squeezed OJ! Also those dense rolls are yummy too!

Agree on all counts - those rolls must weigh 5 pounds each!!

Had another tasty breakfast last week. I had my usual tater pancakes w/sour cream, and some eggs as well. The rest of our party all had some sort of egg pie/quiche concoction that they loved. We all (and the iguanas) loved the bread too - good thing we were on a cruise, and had been practicing overeating for days...

I think this is the best breakfast restaurant on the island. Always have breakfast here at least once a week. Love the potato pancakes and scrambled eggs. Last year we also ate lunch here one day while we were shopping downtown. Food was very good and prices were reasonable. Can't remember name of the dish but it was some sort of veal - very tasty.

Where is this restaurant located?

It is located to the left of the Seaport Casino downtown. We just ate there on Saturday, since Kev loved it so much. It was delicious, I had the French toast, my husband had bacon and eggs.

Didn't even have the tater pancakes?? OK, now you have to go there again! We'll be there at least a couple of times this September, I'll make sure to have a few to make sure they're still as good as always.

Location is excellent for that last breakfast on your way to the airport (as long as you don't lock your keys in your car )

You're right, the potato pancakes may not be great but EVERYTHING else was ABSOLUITELY delicious.... you folks MUST try the Beef Strognoff and the Saubraten that, in my humble opinion, are the absolute BEST in the world, and I have traveled all over the US, Canada, Europe and the Middle East, so I should Know. Also, the cleanlliness and the awesome view of the harbor makes Villa Germania absolutely wonderful. In ONE week vacation in Aruba, I went there 3 times...

One IMPORTANT thing... On an island where most GOOD restaurants open at 6:00 pm, Villa Germania is opne ALL day until 11:00 pm. I got there at 4:00 pm, and received great service, great food and a great welcome!...

I don't know who has voted in the poll... but this restaurant's rating is nothing short of EXCELLENT!...

hi guy, glad you are with us. however, remember, restaurant reviews are subjective. we each have different tastes in foods depending on our backgrounds and for that matter, our taste buds. i have a few places in aruba that i hate that others love. that's after extensive travel and several years in the upper end of food service. having traveled means nothing in the case of personal tastes. it's all in what you like.

so the answer to your question is the people who voted on this poll are people with opinions and they all count.

We eat here at least once a trip. Have been coming for 13yrs. Breakfasts are excelent. Potato pancakes aren't what is usual in a german restaurant. They make them their own way and I love them. Staff is attentive and can be slow. If in a rush, just ask for your check, they will accomadate you, otherwise they will let you alone to talk and maybe have another drink. I have never been rushed, but would be mindful if there were others waiting for seating. The owner is a young German lady and does a spectacular job.

I knew I could count on you - you have every menu! Thank you!
DH and I are sneaking in a trip in March and staying at Renaissance Ocean Suites. Since we alway rent a car when we stay in October, I'm thinking of doing an 'all Oranjestad' trip and only going where we can walk to. There are so many restaurants down town that we miss and haven't been to yet.

We'd like to maybe take advantage of 'rib night' at the Paddock, but is service really as abysmal as people say? DH would have NO patience with that.

Just ate dinner/supper there last week. Service was horrible. Our waiter spent most of the time smoking out by the docks. Our water glasses and drink glasses ran dry. After waiting 45 minutes, the owner came out and apologized for the delay. She forgot to post the order to the kitchen. We were never asked if we wanted another drink, more bread, water etc while we waited. Food finally arrived 1 hour after we ordered. DH ordered tuna med-rare. It arrived well done and dry as sawdust. My veal ragout was acceptable but poorly presented. We did complain and they did not charge us for the tuna or our drinks so at least we didn't spend a fortune.

Sorry to hear of the bad service and meal. We are German and have been going to this restaurant for 14yrs. I have never encountered a problem such as yours. It's hard to overcook most German selections. Fish is so touchy to cook right and I find that many restaurants that don't serve fish as the primary part of their menu are really not that good at it. I'm glad the owner at least compensated you for most of the cost. She is a good person. We will be in Aruba from the 29th to Mar. 15th. and I will surely eat there again. If I notice anything like you experienced I will let you know. I hope it was just an isolated incident and the waiter has been fired.

I've eaten there several times and my only 'complaint' would be the slow service - but one needs to remember the whole 'island time' mentality, also the European influence of this restaurant which is not the same as our in/out mentality. My guess is that this was more of an isolated incident.

OK an iguana did pee onto our table once from the overhanging foliage, but that was more of a fun memory than something to complain about

We had a breakfast and lunch there last week - very good! They did drop the 'Germania' from the name though and all signage and menus read just 'The Villa' now. Just so no one gets confused trying to find it!

After several trips through the years Villa Germania closed up last week when we were in Aruba.

We ate there for breakfast the first week (4th of July week) but when we came back later the next week it was emptied out and closed. We asked a waiter at the Pancake House what happened and he said it was closed up and everything gone overnight.

Villa will be sadly missed on our future trips....

i just got another report from someone telling me that with the expected renovations to that mall, they were asked to move out. it is a total shame.
