There are two topics where the interest is amazing. The first seems to be “Let’s do a countdown” and the other is “Topless beaches on Aruba?” The countdown thing speaks for itself – however the topless issue is special. The first thing you notice is that practically no women ask about it yet seem to be the target of interest for those that do ask. The second thing you notice is that the askers and those responding come in categories. For example:

RATHER TIMID ASK:
“Hey all – anyone know of a secluded beach where topless sunbathing is allowed?”
“Our family practices nude sunbathing, any ideas where?”
“Anywhere I can go to sun bathe where I will not be ogled at?”
THE “WANT-A-KNOWS” ASK
“Can the gals go topless in front of the hotels?”
THE DESPERATE ASK
“Hey – am single and not married (Duhh) and want to find a nude beach?”
THE NOT-SO-SLICK” ASK
“Will be there June 3 staying at the Wind-harm room 269 and want to sun my buns – wanna join?”

Now there are probably a few other categories, however these seem to be the main ones, and I have to say that when they pop up (no pun intended) the responses draw a great deal of attention, especially from the women. Ladies tend to answer in these categories:

THE ONES CONCERNED ABOUT HEALTH (yeah sure)
“Too much sun will cause cancer?”
THE CARING MOMS’
“I don’t allow my kids to see a naked woman breasts” – (HMMM How did they pull off breast feeding?).
THE GOOD WIVES RESPOND
“My husband would kill me if I did!” (Maybe you should think about that)

Now if we get to the crux of the matter (again, no pun intended) this says a lot about how we feel about ourselves and being naked in the sun and in public. For reasons that are within my grasp, we guys seem to long for those maternal days while the women are pretty closed mouthed about the issue. Ever wonder why? We guys are topless anyway so to match you one-for-one we would have to be bottomless. That is something that would lead to disaster in front of any resort.

FOR MYSELF:
I was born naked and was glad to get over it. Why? As much as I love playing in it, sand itches. Aside from that, buttocks skin burns about a million times faster than arm skin and hurts like blazes. On top of that, (on the beach) naked women cause a ton of problems when you aren’t married to them and even more problems when you are. Ever try to hold an honest eye-ball to eye-ball discussion with a topless lady that smells like a coconut? Notice I respectfully did not say “coconuts”.

Further, whenever I see a nude sun bathing lady, as lovely as they may be and as perfectly formed as they are, they always pale when compared to Bo Derek. It is a simple fact. All but my wife of course. (Aren’t I a wimp?)

SUNBATHING SNIPPET
Family is on the beach and looking at the ocean. In front of them is a nude lady lying face down while sun bathing her back and in the process of turning over to brown all sides. There is a kid talking to his Mom as the Dad lies there staring at the area in front of them. The kid finally says, “Mommy – Daddy says he feels like he is a part of nature when he is on Aruba. What does he mean with that?”
She looks at her husband, the sun worshiper and responds.

“Your dad belongs here – he is a real Sun of a Beach”

Having just returned from Aruba, I was a bit shocked to see some nude sun bathers on Moomba Beach in between the Holiday Inn and The Marriot resorts.

I'm not a prude - I've been to the nude beach on Fire Island (you know what I mean Corrine?) - but this spot is right near two big family hotels!!

I was so shocked I had to get a closer look just to make sure I was seeing what I thought I was seeing!!!!

Didnt see that at Moombas last year, Jimbo! If we did, hubby would be begging to go back there!

I saw too much of what I didn't want to see in Fire Island, Jim! I used to go every summer to Ocean Bay Park for a few days! They were definitely more vain though - only the slim were nude or wore thongs (men included!).

I have held conversations with topless women down at Rogers Beach.. Baby Beach..Eagle Beach.. and a few other Beaches..
In and around Aruba...
And as far as I know to-date I have never studdered...
Ah.. but on the other hand you must remember...

My friend - I do not play music very well, however I do have a guitar that complains once in a while when I take her out.

That said, I can also talk to topless women and am stunned and delighted at the fun that this entire conversation seems to be bringing out in us all. You see.. it is not the nudity in others that amazes me as much as our ability or inability to focus on the human and not the shell that that human lives in. There are examples of this that I wonder about. Her is one:
If you saw a person that had a physical handicap that (at first meeting) may make you feel badly, would you talk to them? Would you stare? Would you treat them normally and try to get to know the human? It is the same (for me anyway) with this topless women thing. These are people that made a choice. It has nothing to do with me - it is their choice and it seems to me that it would be my personal responsibility (if I chose to do so) to get to know the human in the shell (lovely, old, baggy, handicapped or otherwise) prior to making the judgement on the shell.

Know what I mean? Hell man, I would never eat eggs if I judged them by the shells. But there is nothing as nice as a good TEXAS omelet - is there? It's what is on the inside. That is what I was trying to bring out.

I belive that it matters not if one decides to go bare. I also belive that Aruba is the greatest place on the planet and if your in Aruba drinking in all that beauty and you decide to share your own outter beauty then why the Hell not..Think about this your a little buzzed with your friends... Your down at Baby Beach and the sun is coming up..You dont have any swim wear and you just played a four hour concert the night before and everyone desides to take a dip..Every try swimming in blue jeans ??
That is the true meaning of Island Hoppin...Just havin fun !!

Hey now Charlie! - our honeymoon was absolutely PERFECT! I've been to Mexico, California, Florida, Hawaii - and the weather in Aruba beats them all - every day was a beach day! Highlights were Palm Beach, Baby Beach, Flying Fishbone, and Madame Janette's - I'll try to write up a trip report when I have some time.

Welcome back Jimbo and wife!!!! Can't wait to read your trip report. Had not seen you posting and thought you might have decided to stay in "paridise" forever!!!!! Anxious to hear if your opinion of Aruba matches the rest of us Aruba lovers.
