tom, the reason was that it was interesting and about a neighboring island that is part of the ABC's. gives us some food for thought though doesn't it?

Tom:
The reason I posted this was it is disturbing that it is happening on other islands in the chain and it could happen in Aruba if they do not jump on the situation now. Als to warn you and others to be aware of what is going on with the types of cars we own or rent. |

I still don't understand. We have been to other islands in the carribian & wouldn't think of posting what happened there & comparing it to Aruba. Newbies get on these boards & see this & assume it is appling to Aruba. Then they go to another Aruba BB and say "They Read" or "I Heard" that this does happen in Aruba.

tom, this board allows posts of all sorts as long as they fit into our standards. we don't allow obscenities, offensive jokes, porn, and flaming.
other than that, we allow all types of posts. ebb usually posts news that he thinks would interest us. i personally found it interesting but that isn't what sets the standard. what sets the standard is following our rules. ebb did. i doubt very much if someone will think it applies to aruba though when the title of it is 'i hope this does not happen in aruba'. either way, i will not censor a post that stays in our parameters. we are an information highway on this board and i can't put up a stop sign on that highway for something like this. if they don't see a discussion here it will be on another board that may not treat these topics in an honest manner and could do much more damage that we can do by being straightforward as we have been since the day this board started. Where do you think the parts are going? Off island I suppose. There are only so many cars to "fix" on one island, whichever one it may be. Wonder how long it took someone to make a car look like that. I guess not long if you know what you're doing. Interesting...but disturbing.

according to murray (35 years experience in the auto industry) it takes no more than 30 minutes to strip a car like that. also, they strip the vehicle they need to fix the car they want to repair. therefore the parts are staying on the island. you don't strip a car until you need it or the 'materials' aren't there when you do, lol.

Sherry, now I'm curious; BB does not allow obscenities, (no problem there) offensive jokes, (got that one) porn (I think I know what that is) and "flaming." OK, what is flaming!! I would ask my kids but it might be something I should know and I don't want to listen to the Oh Dad get with it line. [again]

Now, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but; As previously reported here, we parked in the lot acros from Playa Linda, next to Dunkin Donuts and left the Toyota Yaris there overnight. The headlight covers and the front grille were stolen sometime during the night. We called the Polis and they took a report. The Officer advised this was a common occurance with popular vehicles and we should park in the resort lot at night.

sure is. this thread it was tom h's turn but that's great. we get to see the real workings of this board. as charlie said, if we always agreed on everything we sure would be boring. also, it started a conversation that makes us alert. it's a win-win situation that way.

Crime in Curacao is nothing new.....it has always been a more crime ridden island since I began going there in 91......Otrabanda and Punda (the 2 main downtown areas) have always had problems particularly at night.....Caution should be on anyone's mind who travels to Curacao, thinking it is as safe as Aruba is a mistake.

Something like this DID happen to friends of ours on Aruba a couple of years ago.
They parked the car in the lot at their timeshare after dinner one night and the next morning they were going to make a trip to Dunkin Donuts. Their car was gone. They filed a police report and were told that auto theft is fairly common on the island. The friends who experienced this loss are police officers. They returned home and realized their credit card had been charged $22,000.00 for the "missing car". They apparently had not read the fine print on their credit card that did not offer additional coverage for rentals out of the country. Eventually this charge was reversed, but only after months and months of haggling with the rental company and credit card company -- where could a car go??? It's an island for gods sakes! The following year, the car was found on the other side of the island. It had been stripped.
