Tourist Safety

The International Police Association Aruba welcomes our visitors. Have a great time and to truly enjoy a memorable vacation on our island. The following information is intended to contribute to your personal security while visiting Aruba or anywhere else. You have to be prepared, a crime can happen anytime and anywhere in the world.

Crime is not a major problem in Aruba and most visits are trouble-free, however visitors are still advised to take common-sense precautions in unfamiliar surroundings, locking valuables in the hotel safe and taking care when walking home at night. Valuables left unattended on beaches, in cars and in hotel lobbies are easy target for theft.

At your hotel:
  • Secure your room at night and utilize the room security locks.
  • Never open your hotel door to strangers.
  • Always leave a light on or tv/radio on when you leave your room to make it appear occupied in your absence.
  • Never leave valuables in your hotel room. Use the hotel vault or room safe.
  • Always lock your hotel room door when you leave the room and always double check your room door to confirm that it is securely locked, and that the key was not left in the outside lock.

When sightseeing:
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Never provide transportation to strangers.
  • Never leave the vehicle with the engine running or the keys in the ignition.
  • Always lock your vehicle with windows closed.
  • Do not leave unattended valuables or cash in your vehicle.
  • Note the make, model, year, color and license number of the vehicle.
  • Park in well lighted areas.

Generally:
  • When walking at night, stay in well lighted areas.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • When visiting a nightclub or bar, use common sense and never leave your drink unattended.
