Default BREEZES - Tried it - WOW

Doors finally open and since I work with the overall project, I went in for dinner last week and again this week. The restaurant is located where RIO STEAK HOUSE used to be. The two story building is down from the OLD MILL restaurant and is being redone into a health facility which includes BREEZES Restaurant and SANTOSA Health facilities and SPIN Center. The BREEZES menu has low fat foods if you like or the regular selections as well. I treated myself to the Lobster Thermidor and Junior had a fish soup. Junior, who never finishes soup asked if he could have a tiny bit more. Like I said, I am related to the project on the development side so I don't want to push it too much, but .... give it a shot. the food is super.

thanks charles... glad something moved into that building. we were just talking about the rio the other day with andrea and paul. we miss that place. never understood why it wasn't popular when every item we got there was good and the service was excellent.

Sherry, Eagle Beach Boy,
you are 100% right of course. The RIO used to be a super Steakhouse. We ate there all the time. Once this new project started, we were looking for a specific type of restaurant. Nice - not elegant, wear what you want, simple to read menu, a healthy approach to preparation (no grease but instead olive oil etc.) . We talked to a few restaurateurs and then Arthur Solomon showed up in my office and in a big husky Jamaican accent said to me " Hey Mon - I wont to do a food ting here". We talked for about two months and then it started taking shape. Like I said, I don't want to overdo the promoting since there are so many great restaurants on Aruba but - give it a try.
Regarding the building; It is in the process of being transformed into a full health focused building. SANTOSA is there with their latest SPIN CYCLES and other exercising equipment. Their services are excellent and the entire team there is European and their act is together. The second floor is being remodeled by Dr. Alvarez where she will be offering a whole series of treatments and other regular clinical services. Kind of a "Vacation and find out how your health is" at the same time. they do stress tests etc.

The building is being revived. One step at a time.

I Love Aruba Re: BREEZES - Tried it - WOW

I never could understand why it didn't "take off" either The food was good, prices were fair, but it was always empty. I usually went at least 3 or 4 times while I was on Aruba.

Looking forward to trying Breezes, Charles. I like the idea of low fat foods a lot!

I was so dissapointed when the Riso closed. We loved it there, the steaks were great and the prices reasonable. I hope Breezes will have better lucl there and looking forward to trying it. Thanks Charles for the update.

Does anyone have a menu for Breezes? That might be good to post. Is there a website yet?

We had a very good steaks at the Rio a few times.
The price was good. Serving size good (but did not bring back leftovers).
I'm trying to remember the layout.
Seems we dined to the left of the entrance, but there was a big area to the right.
Trying to figure out the new layout.
I guess we'll have to check it out in a few weeks!
Good luck with the new venture!

Sounds like I'll have to give a try too. I love the idea of a Spin Center - I assume that will be open to the public? I love riding my bicycle, but if I don't get out early in the morning, I sometime end up bagging it because of the heat. I would love to Spin in AC!!!

we are actually working on that now. give us a few days and it will be a pleasant surprise. i have seen it. the prices are more reasonable than most in that category of dining. if the food is as good as the prices it's a winner. the menu is not linked to a website or it would be up already.

Well, I am pleased to report that I was one of the lucky ones who actually dined at Breezes while in Aruba the second week in August and I can say it was excellent. It was only opened 3 weeks at that point I was told by some friends, who are also frequent visitors of Aruba, that it was suppose to be good and suggested we all go. What was especially nice was it wasn't terribly busy and the owner, Arthur, who likes to call himself King Arthur, came by our table and chatted with us for about 15 minutes. He is a very impressive man and very enthusiastic about this restaurant and having his guests enjoy a perfect meal and experience. It is a very friendly and comfortable restaurant and a nice location, with good prices and good service. I hope Arthur does well and we continue to be able to enjoy Breezes as a new added restaurant.

I had the grouper which was delicious, someone else had the lobster thermidor which they said was very good, they also had steak on the menu, Dutch pea soup, French onion soup. The menu is very much like Chalet Suisse if you've ever dined there.
