I Love Aruba Owners Association

When we purchased our Aruba timeshare we were informed that, as an owner, we were a member of the resort timeshare owners association. Nine years later, we have still not been advised of any association meetings nor any association actions. I suspect that this "association" is in name only and that it "exists" more for prohibitions than for benefits. To explain prohibitions, a few years ago the resort was going to do some remodeling and I asked if I could bid on some of the products they would be purchasing. I was informed by the owners that as a member of the timeshare owners association I could not, because of potential conflict of interest.
Does anyone out there belong to an active timeshare owners association? If so, does the association have a charter, constitution, by-laws? Would you be able to share a copy with me?

Answer
If it is THE MILL, I would suggest you contact ownership of the resort.

Answer
My only surprise is that you waited nine years to ask.

Satement

Answer
HMMM how could that be if (as you say) there isn't one to begin with

Statement

Answer
In most cases you automatically belong to the association and are apprised of such issues as maintenance or other changes within the property or of anything that might alter or effect your vacation experience.

My comment
when you bid, you did so to ownership. As I understand your issue, you are upset because (bottom line) because you cannot bid. I am led to wonder if this is the only time you attempted to contact ownership and why you are not directing this questions directly to them? Just a thought.

be well'

I Love Aruba Re: Owners Association

Sherry, you are correct, we do own at the Mill. Charlie, you are wrong, I am not upset at not being able to bid; I merely gave that statement to show how I finally discovered that there was an owners association.
We just returned from 2 weeks at the Mill and for the first time were disappointed with our vacation. The Mill was practically empty, it appeared that they were operating with an almost skeleton staff therefore it was nowhere near as clean as in past years (especially around the pool and in the rooms), there were no activities, and they have virtually killed Happy Hour. During the middle weekend there were several unsupervised kids in the pool behaving exceptionally badly and noone seemed to care.
We did spend time discussing these issues with certain members of management, but the general manager (Ms Ras) chose to be conspicuously inconspicuous.
As far as contacting the resort owners, we were informed that Edmond JR is no longer involved with the resort, his two younger brothers want nothing to do with it, and Edmond SR does not make himself available for issues of this type.
We were also informed that we are not the first timeshare owners who have complained about the way the resort is being managed, but those complaints (just like ours) have fallen upon deaf management ears who think that the problems are merely a function of a weak economy.
With the direction the resort appears to be heading, I am mainly concerned about my investment, as I am sure other timeshare owners are. I have requested from the resort a listing of email addresses of other timeshare owners in an attempt to get an association started with the hope of getting somebody's attention. So far I have not received that listing....but I'm still hopeful.
It also goes without saying that most of the employees at the resort are not happy with the way things are going, but they are being ignored too.

89, you have now posted on our forum and there are at least a few owners who post here. give it a few days and maybe one will pop up with some info. i hope you get what you need.

a few questions...don't you have a board of directors or any vote each year? who determines your maintenance fee? do you get no information from the resort at all? no paperwork?

I think that you zero chance to receive such a list as these are personal info...

Some thoughts:
Normally the list of names at the resort is held by only a few entities and then in the highest conficence, If not, you would be getting more than the mass of VIAGRA mail we all get now.

These entities normally are:
  • Ownership (with this we mean the operations of the resort and those that actually send out the maintenance bills yearly
  • The sales office (mostly the inhouse team)
  • Your exchange company. They receive the information when you become a member and as long as you continue to pay your exchange fees.
The odds of getting the members list of any resort from any of the above is so slim that it is laughable. And ..... Should you be able to wrangle it away or pay someone for it, then your resort has massive problems.

In my opinion, you need to define exactly what it is you want to do

Contact ownership??? YOu tell me they have all washed their hands and it seems that the resort is on auto pilot

Find out what is happening within the resort??? You seem to have that covered fairly well ---- CONFUSION

Bid on some stuff? Go for it - making money is not against the law.

NOW.....

Want to have ownership get to know you intimately??? I mean really pay attention to you and envision you as their hero????

Simple

Send a forceful letter to the exchange company and one to the BBB on Aruba. As a cherry on the cake, send one to the minister of tourism and to Rona Coster who is a well read columnist on Aruba. A quick note to ARDA won't hurt.

Make sure everything you state is accurate and concise and in the spirit of resolving a problem

be well
charles

PS
I had the privilage to work with Mr. Raymond Maduro who was THE pioneer for timeshare on Aruba. He would never have tolerated this and therefor I find this kind of behavior on the part of resort ownership sad beyond words.
