that's a rumor. used them in august for aruba and i have used them everywhere here. they are great for merchants. a sure thing with little or no fees associated. the only problem is they only come in $100 increments now so a tiny store can't cash them for a $6 purchase. cash them at the hotel or timeshare desk if you need small shopping money.

We use them in Aruba with no problem. As Sherry indicated, you need some cash for your small(er) purchases but in general, you won't have a problem.

If you're an AAA member, you can get them there at no charge.

I Love Aruba Re: Travelers Checks or not

---- That's what my BANK said also. Think they just didn't want to give them out free anymore to their good customers. But my Credit Union still gives them out free to their good customers.
I get American Express Travel Checks in $50's. Have not heard only coming in $100's now. That is all I use at restaurants. My resort front desk and casinos will cash them.
Now if going to Europe there might be problems. But was on a Cruise Ship in the Med and they cashed them.

that's weird tom, my bank said no more 50's. maybe it's the only ones they want to use? however, according to wachovia, they are still a strong item and a cheap benefit to keep good customers. either way, for aruba it's no problem.

We still get them in 50's at our bank, too (Wells Fargo - who purchased Wachovia so Wachovia will be "no more" soon.)

Sherry, my cu said they will no longer be issued in $20s, but $50 and $100 are still available.
