Default Tad worried...The Mill..need opinions

We've been trying for the last few years to get to Aruba and something always gets in the way Since 2004...one of the kids getting married one of them having a baby......yikes>>>.This year it's happening and we booked for July, decided we don't spend much time in the room so don't need 5 star. We booked with a kitchen so we don't have to eat out all the time but now surfing around some of the boards I'm a bit worried as The Mill where we booked isn't getting many positive reviews....

What we need & want is a clean place to sleep, shower and maybe eat breakfast/lunch some days. Close to the casinos, close to transportation downtown and a pool. We aren't a sit on the beach all day people, prefer a pool.

What we don't need or want is 5 star glamor/glitz....

Will the Mill fit our bill or should I rebook hotel portion somewhere else..

Thanks so much

My suggestion would be the Tropicana Aruba(formerly the Aruban/Villas)
They have two large pools , the units are a good size with 2 burner stovetop, toaster oven, microwave, full fridge. and a small casino. It is located across the parking lot from Lacabana. Close to the beach(eagle beach), short walk to bus stops, Check their website: troparuba.com

The Mill"s just fine.

We do 3 weeks there every year in Feb.Its not the Ritz but for common folk (like me and my lady) things are just fine.

Rooms are clean and well kept.Garden resturant has a limited selection of menu but its all good.

Not for the hi maintainance crowd but will do what you are asking just fine.

Gotta walk or take the shuttle to the beach or just laze by the pool all day.

Give it a try-I dont think you will be dissapointed.

We have owned a timeshare at the Mill for over 10 years and have been there almost every year since we purchased. We've had experiences that range from fabulous to disastrous, but we continue returning because it is still Aruba, and is still the best deal on the island. Be advised that they are undergoing some major renovations and one entire building is closed, but they still have one of the friendliest bars on the island. We will be there in May, and will give an update thereafter.

An update as we wind down our current 3 week stay at The Mill.

We are time share owners and will continue to return to the best deal on the Island HOWEVER the Garden resturant needs help.

Only ate 1 overpriced poor quality meal there-that was all it took to wise up.

We understand that this resturant is in play for a new subcontractor takeover which they are seeking. However until some new blood is put in place since this post,I would dine somewhere else.

We will give it another go next year.

Oldmics-returning home soon with memorys and a tan!

OK, here we go.....we're back after 2 weeks at the Mill (12th time there) and I can say that it is WAY BETTER than it was 2 years ago (see my previous posting on the Mill timeshare site below). There have been management changes and a huge capital investment in renovation is underway. The newly renovated rooms are beautiful and it is obvious that there has been great attention to detail. Virtually all of the issues that have been brought up by critics (including me) have been corrected in the new rooms, and as many as they could have been fixed in the older ones. The process is, unfortunately, rather slow because it is SO thorough.....only the concrete block walls remain when they do the demo. Doors (ext and int), windows, flooring, lighting, A/C, bathroom fixtures and floor to ceiling wall tiles, furniture and bedding have all been replaced along with kitchen cabinets, countertops (granite) and appliances.
At first we were told that the restaurant and bar would be turned over to a sepatate company as a lease deal as of July 1st, but later learned that those negotiations had broken down and the Mill would remain in control of them. They plan on a new lunch and dinner menu with specials and more affordable prices....we'll have to wait and see.
There is also some interest in bringing back afternoon activities and happy-hour entertainment, similar to the way it was several years ago.
We are back to loving the Mill again and hope that you all do to.
