Default airport question

Does anyone know how busy the airport is in the very early morning? We have a 7am flight out of Aruba. Do we still have to be there 3 hours before our flight?

We have flown AA at 7:00 am and that flight is about the only one. The American immigration does not get there until about 5:30 if I remember correctly.

I say get there about 6:00 am. Especially during the week.

Great time to be leaving Aruba----as we say, "When it's over, it's over." I have flown out of Aruba at that time. There is no-one at the airport and you will breeze right through each stop. I would get there at 6.

Thank you both for your replies. That sounds great, getting to the airport at 6am instead of 4am. Not that I'll be happy about leaving Aruba!

karin, maybe i worry a bit but i think you need to get there a little earlier. think of it this way. the flights board 30 minutes before departure. that means that if you arrive at 6am and the flight is at 7am you have 30 minutes to go thru the line, two security checks, and us customs. that is cutting it very very close. i have never been on that early a flight leaving aruba but even when i have 'breezed' thru all the spots listed it has taken a minimum of 45 minutes. that includes the time we were first in line at american's desk. please move that arrival to 5am and not risk spending a day on standby at the airport waiting for another flight.

We always take the early AA flight and getting there early is a joke because the counters at American don't even open until 6am and after you go through the first screener and get your luggage back, US Customs and Immigration doesn't open until 6:30 officially but 7 when I returned in February. It's a hurry up and wait saituation.

Thanks Sherry! You are so right. I'm sure it won't be busy early in the morning, but it does take a long time to get through everywhere. Plus, you don't know my husband...he will still want to be there at least 3 hours early....but I do think 2 hours is fine.

Check with your airline (in Aruba) to see when their counter opens.

What airline are you on that leaves that early?

We are on American airlines. If the counter doesn't open until 6am, then I probably don't have to get there until 5:30. But what if there's a long line checking in?

that was our problem one year karin. we got there and we were standing outside the door. we got to the gate as the plane was boarding. figure that most people will be there at least 2 hours before the flight. that means that you will be at the end of a line of at least 100 check ins assuming 2 passengers together in each group. i have never seen more than 2 people and there is more than one american airlines plane taking off within that hour. i would be there early. i figure i can sleep on the plane.

however, before i did anything i would check what time the counter opens.

At least everyone will be on the same plane. I'm sure they will get everyone thru. I do think the ticket counter may open before 6:00, but not the airport entrance.

We are leaving Aruba Monday May 5. Our flight # 5183 is on American Eagle to San Juan with a 1 hr layover (I hope) and then to Boston on flt#2478 and should arrive at 2pm.

Chris, I wish I had tried Priceline but since I had already booked at the Mill, I would have had to pay a $25 cancellation fee. I wouldn't have saved much money. Next time I will try them. After I give my bid and name, is that when Priceline either accepts or declines the bid? Then I must give my credit card info and then they tell me which hotel it is? The Westin and Marriott are on the list of 4*? Do you know which others?
Thanks to everyone for the help!
