Hi All,
First time poster so forgive me if this is in the wrong spot. I have a bit of an intersting question/predicament. My buddy and I have been saving up Aruban coins here in the states and have piled up right around 10,000 guilders worth of them. We called the banks ahead of our upcoming trip to see how to exchange them to notes and they said only with an account. Both of us are college students so we don't have the income levels to support offshore accounts, nor the complex bank reference letters that need to come from the US. After calling around almost no one can suggest how to get the coins exchanged. Most are concerned that we have older, invalid, coins. We know that the older 5 florin is invalid, but upon calling the Central Bank they said all other coins are still legal tender, but that they would not buy them in from us. If anyone has any advice how we can get these turned in we would be greatly appeciative! We don't mind paying a small fee a-la-coinstar machines or something of that nature. Thanks again! |

Try taking them to a casino teller's cage and turn them in for $US for use in the slot machines. Then simply walk out the door.

Thanks for the reply. We thought about doing this and called a couple casinos and they said that there would be a limit to how many they would be willing to count and convert. I suppose we could spend a day or so going to every casino and supermarket as a fall back plan though. |

Sounds like the only plan that will work. Good luck and have a great time in Aruba! Where are you staying? |

As of right now we are going to be at the Westin. I called the hotel and the casino says they can take 1000, so 10% taken care of so far. |
