The picture is of the most popular Christmas lights attraction and is in Seroe Preto - San Nicolas. I found this online information which is pretty accurate; (Posted without consent from author)

THE CHRISTMAS VILLAGE LIGHTS IN SAN NICOLAS ARE ON
“Once again, visitors can enjoy a spectacular Christmas Tradition”

The sky of San Nicolas will be shimmering again with Christmas lights. The village of lights on the Seroe Preto hill has become a very popular spot to visit among locals and tourists during the Christmas season.
A group of friends and neighbors took this initiative several years ago and since then, it has become a very nice attraction for both locals and tourists. This group is called “Juventud Uni Seroe Preto”; they are a dynamic team that works throughout the whole year doing different fundraisings to cover the cost of the lights, decorations and electricity. Since the month of October the group comes together every night to work on the design and the decorations of the village.
On the weekends and on holidays the visitors can catch a glimpse of the Christmas ambiance with delicious local food and live entertainment, while enjoying some unforgettable decorations, carefully assembled and created by the group.
After a whole month of festivities this attraction culminates on Three Kings day, January when the visitors and the entire neighborhood will enjoy a joyful night with live music, great food and an awesome firework show at the end of the night.
The decoration of the houses with lights has become a part of our Christmas and New Year’s traditions where families and especially kids look forward to the decoration of their homes. Friends and families organize special bus tours to go around and admire the different houses and establishments that are being decorated. To encourage locals to decorate their houses and to make it more attractive the electricity company Elmar gives out at the end of the season cash prizes for the three most beautiful decorated houses on the island.

Somewhere I saw some pics posted of lights in a park. The name of the park began with a "B".

Where is it located? Which part of the island?
We want to do a "Light Tour" this year.

It would be fun if a couple of us travelled together for this one evening.

It's close to Paradera, but I don't know the exact directions. I figure they'll know at our lodgings.

We're staying in Paradera from the 19th to the 28th. If you'd like to get together, PM me.

(I assume you're staying on Eagle Beach.)

And what your seeing in that picture of the lights in Seroe Petro is a small shot....the whole property is lit up and the whole place rocks, trees, sidewalk ropes....every inch of the property is lit up.......when I lived in Aruba (93-99) it wasn't Christmas for me till I made my yearly trek to San Nicolas to see it.......it really is spectacular !!!!

Wink Re: christmas lights!!! where are they???

P.S.....people on the island always joke that ELMAR (the electrical company) makes all their money in December with the island's decorations.......Aruba LOVES to decorate and trust me electricity is extremely expensive in Aruba......my light bill in the USA is about 27.00 a month in Aruba it was 150.00, and that was without christmas lights !!!
So despite the cost, Arubans love to light up their island.......and New Year's Eve that's a whole other story. TONS and TONS of fireworks.....I really miss the holidays in Aruba !!!!

last year i posted the 2004 pics of baltimore's miracle on 34th street. here is the link to 2005. many years ago (in a far distant place--sorry, dental pain makes me crazy, lol) baltimore started decorating 34th street in hampden. it is only a block or two long but the glow can be seen for a great distance and help to guide you to it. they get help and contributions because the electricity cost is so great. each year it gets bigger and gaudier. i will say that they tend to not keep up with the site thru the year.

the christmas parade and street lighting was this past sunday. remember, these are all private homes.

Wink Re: christmas lights!!! where are they???

Auntie.....I hear ya, Arubans hear ya, but ELMAR is a mighty company in Aruba......it's crazy cause with the tradewinds being constant they could wipe out Elmar !!!! There's enough wind in Aruba to light the whole island up 24/7. But then again, look at the USA surrounded by water charging tons for it and depleting the Great Lakes and whining about low water levels......desalinize the ocean waters like Aruba and lower our water bills......Aruba has the 2nd largest water desalination plant in the world....seems windmills for them would be an obvious......gotta believe those that benefit from ELMAR grease the politicians hands whenever the subject comes up.....and then quietly drops from the radar......much like here !!!! LOL

That's cheap! I should move! I pay over $100. so $150. for Aruba is not bad. I was told that electricity in Aruba was not very expensive by someone who owns a house there.

Wink Re: christmas lights!!! where are they???

Well in my 6 years of living in Aruba in the late 90's there was always 2 bills Arubans complained about and that was the current (light) and water bills.......for Arubans who typically have smaller homes than Americans and only 1 or 2 T.V.s 150.00 for lights per month is expensive......all things are relative and your home might be large and your income probably exceeds alot of Arubans incomes......I found the water and current bills to be extremely high for what we had in our small house on the island. Some months it approached 200.00. And as someone else pointed out windmills would be such an easy fix with the strong tradewinds Aruba has all the time !!!! But I am sure Elmar (the electric company monopoly) has been fighting that idea for years......

Hi there all,

Nothing great, but on or about Saturday, 12/22/07, we will have some lights on our new house in Boroncana. Just a few light strings around the patio and if I can find one, a snowman too. . . . . We will have a decorated / light artificial palm tree for our Christmas Tree in the front window. . .

I just gave myself a new camera for Christmas. I will be traveling around the island making pictures of lights and I can post them here. Ah such fun.
And such a good excuse to use my camera.

I took many photos last year of the lights and fireworks. Discovered I should have used a tripod or a mount to steady the camera.
