For our first trip to Aruba, we plan on taking a day or part of a day to walk around Oranjestad. I have read that a few of the stores will be closed from noon-2, which is fine. However, are they open on the weekends? Is the Tuesday night Bon bini festival something worth seeing?

I highly recommend the Bon Bini Festival at Fort Zoutman on Tuesday nights. It isn't long and you will learn about the history of the island and they guy who emcee's it is a hoot ! They used to sell local art and local foods at the festival and it's a fun 1.5 hours. I think it is really cheap 4-5 dollars to get in.....Well worth it.

Some people get lost in thought because it's unfamiliar territory.

Most stores are closed on Sundays. Stores in town aren't open at
night. They 'roll up the sidewalks' around 6ish. Most of
the 'bigger' stores in town are not closed for lunch. But on
Main street (the one 1 block in) will have stores closed for lunch.

Check first about the Bon Bini festival - at one point it wasn't every
Tues but it might have changed since it's high season.

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely find a way to find out if the Bon Bini festival is going to occur. We fly in Monday, so I will definitely check once we get in. We will remember to plan our day in town prior to Sunday. Thanks so much!

You girls should also hook up for a sail on the Tranquilo, 6hrs. total 2hr. sail, 2hr. snorkel and lunch, 2hr. sail back, take the bow for the great breeze, Capt'n Anthony & crew are the best, and of course the bar is open!
