Default sad news

earlier today in the safety thread lizzardo mentioned a fatal accident. sadly, the fatality was chef Mathieu of madame janette's. my sympathies go out to kasi and the entire staff of mj's along with the family of a young man who sadly has lost his life so early.

One Happy Island Re: sad news

I was going snorkling about 8:15 this morning and they had the road closed by Lacabana with about 6 police cars. Not sure if that was the wreck. We just ate their 3 nights ago. Our prayers are with them at MJ.

Some sad news my friends...
Chef Mathieu Melenboer, originally from Holland and working now at Madame Janet, was killed in the wee hours of this morning in a car-crash. He is only 31 years old.
Police is investigating the crash that happened near The Aruban Resort. His SUV smashed in another car, and then hit a light pole, overturned, and finally came to rest ON the driver, who was catapulted from the vehicule.
Before this, he worked at Que Pasa. May his soul rest in peace.

Correction: Police is now convinced, that the other car caused the accident. The other driver, a 21 years old, abandoned the scene, and was later arrested. He is still in jail.

Very sad indeed... they were working on that stretch of Sasaki after this accident, since many happened in this area.. not sure if they finished installing whatever they were to reduce the speed... I am not sure if they were speed bumps, or just those raised pavement markers (reflectors)....

milie, there were speed bumps for a while in the low rise area and people complained so much that they removed them. yes, they are a pain, but having seen what happens in that area with both tourists and residents, i wish they would bring them back. another idea would be speed cameras like we have here in the states. they take a picture of your license plate along with the speed you are going and you get a ticket that is just about impossible to get out of. it's a flat rate and it isn't cheap.

Yes! Very sad.. I know I didn't like them... but people are driving like maniacs now... it's insane.. also wear your seatbelts!!! In Mexico I saw something called TOPES (like an inverted speed hump some went up and some went down).. they were ALL OVER the highway and made you almost stop... I was amazed they worked, they were somewhat annoying, but once you got used to them they were OK I am sure they helped out with the super speeders... I think they need those on Sasaki also... or speed HUMPS/Tables... not quite the Bumps.. those are very harsh.. if you install a good speed table/hump you can maintain at 25mph...and don't have to quite slow down all the way...
