Thumbs down Crustaceans and Steaks

We were in Aruba in October last year and this place didn't exist. It will be interesting to see if they're still there when we return next November! The place is just lovely, the staff very attentive and pleasant, and the presentation was excellent. It goes downhill from there........

The name is deceiving since there’s only one steak on the menu, a small Filet Mignon. My husband is a big beef eater and was disappointed in the quality of the Filet. I had seafood something that, for the most part, I didn’t eat. The pasta was hot, the seafood was barely warm. The scallops and shrimp were okay but the other fish (I don’t know what they were) was not to my liking. I obviously made a poor choice, but since the plate was hotter than the food, I’d say the kitchen was having a problem.

The menu is a bit too unusual for our taste and the prices are on the high side. We passed on dessert because there was nothing that appealed to us. There were only two items on the dessert menu we recognized (Key Lime Pie & Chocolate cake).

If we had enjoyed our meal I probably wouldn’t have a problem with the prices, but the check was a little over $100 (2 drinks, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees) and we definitely did not get our money’s worth. Needless to say, we won’t go back.

That's a shame you didn't like it. We were there in November of this year and had fabulous meals.

Here's a thread from another board explaining

We thought it was okay. The service was fine though we did not get what we asked for. I thought the chef was excellent but the quality of the meat and fish that the kitchen bought was only average.

Just got back and didn't go there this trip because we had a bunch of teens with us./ we did go to the Flying Fishbone and was surprised that they really liked being on the water. sorry it wasn't what you expected. I think they changed chefs so often that it is hard to count on a good meal. Theresa

Well, we tried and they failed. Donna had the steak, it was very fatty and not that tasty. I had Mahi-Mahi, (or wahoo, I actually forgot) but the part I remember; way to small, poorly cooked, poorly served. Overall this new restaurant rates a "2" out of 10. (I thiink I may be too generous there) I gave them a "2" because of the decor.

Anyone been lately? According to http://www.arubadining.com/crustandsteaks/ they do offer more than one beef option. Is this something new or is there still only one beef offering?

I Love Aruba Re: Crustaceans and Steaks

Ate there last March 2006----very lovely atmosphere (can eat in or outside), clean, and the staff was very pleasant. The food was good. We had no complaints. Will go again in March, 2007.

I am wondering if this place is out of business.....I drove by it last week and it looked very closed. Maybe some one can verify this! I never got to try it, but it looked like a nice setting.

Crustaceans and steaks "could have had it all" imo.
They had a terrific location.
They spent $$$$ on that building and decor.
Problem being...........their food was not up to par with their pricing.
If someone is going to charge $35 for filet mignon, it sure as heck had better be delicious and tender. Same goes for their fish.

They were doomed from the day they hired their head chef and printed the pricing on the menu.
