Default L G Smith Steak & Chop House

Located downtown it is hands down one of the best restaurants on the island.
If you want mod decor, ambiance, a/c, and top quality food this is it. Dont waste your time going to El Gaucho it's such a tourist trap and you have to WAIT! Excellent steak selection at LG ! When you have a reservation for a specific time you get seated at that time. No waiting! Delicious with a view of the water! Never did LeDome but this is a winner. Madam Jeanetts is good but gee after a day in the heat your roasted. This is the special dinner you want and waited for.

This is the very first place my wife and I ate when we visited the Island in Feb. 2005. Very upscale, and our food was Great. Service was Top Notch too.

We had our Christmas Dinner here this year. The meal was very good, we all had steaks. The service was just ok. There was plenty of help just slow at times.

Thumbs up Re: L G Smith Steak & Chop House

We ate there tonight as we were both tired and it was handy to the Rennaisance where we are staying and they had no problem getting us in. We found the decor and ambiance very nice; it is a bit upscale so we dressed up a bit which is fun on a trip if you bring the right clothes. We had a good seat at the window overlooking the main drag and the harbour. We ordered a nice CA wine- a bit overpriced for what I am used to for what it was but that was ok. My wife ordered the seafood Ceviche and I had the Calamari. The Ceviche is a meal in itself and was the real prize dish of the evening.

I had a Porterhouse and my wife orderd the NY stip-both cooked rare and sides of mushrooms, a baked potato and spinach. Both steaks were very good but I have to admit I hate ala carte as you end up with all these dishes on the table. Everything tasted good but it is very predictable as most steak houses are. We had a great server, Jean, he was from Haiti so I got to practice my French.

We had the Mango crumble w/ icecream and a lemon mousse w/ a lemon rasberry sauce- both were very good.

Oveall:

Food for the money. 7.5
Wine for the money 7.5 but a nice selection
Presentation 7.5
Ambiance 9
Restrooms 9
waitstaff 9

I Love Aruba Re: L G Smith Steak & Chop House

We ate at LG Smith Steak House tonight ( oops, I guess last night). The meal was wonderful! We started with a bottle of red spanish wine (some big hard pronouncing name that I can't remember) and calamari. I had the petite filet and DH had the regular filet. Both were excellent. Service was very attentive. Would definately try again.

Another favorite restaurant of our's. If you don't mind a fairly early dinner, it's great to have a reservation just before sunset -- ask for a table by the window. The food and service are excellent.
