We were told in May of this year that the Aruban government has purchased the property and have opened it up again. This was according to staffers at LaCabana. Hope this helps.

The Aruban re-opened at the end of February. The Government did not purchase it , but guaranteed a loan signed by a grp of owners. That loan has been repaid early and not by the most recent owner, Carl Icahn. He purchased the bonds/notes in March and purchased the resort at auction in May. That sale was finalized June 29th, but now is in process of an internal financial deal between Icahn grp and Tropicana Entertainment (not the Tropicana hotel) Icahn owns 47% of Tropicana Entertainment. In the meantime, the resort is 50%open and functioning on Maintenance fees. We are looking forward to the completion of all dealings pertaining to the purchase. The Key Largo Casino should be open soon, hopefully.
