How to check legitimacy of timeshare owner

I have an opportunity to rent a week at the Marriott Renaissance. Am dealing with an owner via E-mail found through this site. How do i verify ownership? Would I be able to pay with CC so I have protection or is a check the norm ? I would not feel safe writing a check in this case. Any suggestions? Thanks.

if i am not mistaken, and i can be, you should be able to verify ownership by contacting the resort. you can only pay by cc if the person you are going to rent from accepts them.

Check to see if owner has a Paypal acct. This will protect you in case of
problem. It will cost the owner a small fee.

renting a week in April at the Playa Linda; I received a copy of the Guest of Member authorization form, copy of the paid maintenance fee since I paid for the week by Pay Pal. The only thing I am waiting for is my Confirmation number from the PLaya Linda that the renter will email once he receives. Do I need to do anything else? Thanks new to forum.:thumbs_up

Don't laugh but I went to Google Maps and made sure the timeshare owner was at the address they said they were. Made sure the name matched.

This also lets me know where to find them if something goes wrong.:D

i also checked with my resort to verify ownership. the person was posted directly on their site and you need to be an owner to do that so i feel comfortable but the google thing is a wonderful idea. i learn so much from our forum.

I will wait until Monday or Tuesday to see if I receive the confirmation number from the owner and then I will email the general manager to be sure this is all in proper order. Can't wait to hit Aruba again. Any suggestions about were to eat, gamble once we arrive at the Playa Linda?:pizza:

You can email Liliana Gracia who handles Member Reservations to confirm ownership.
lgracia@arubarenaissance.com
When we rent from other owners she always forwards us the confirmation she sends to the owner.

Also with the Aruba Beach club - they have a Guest Authorization form that must be signed by both the owner and the renter. If the "owner" doesn't get you one of these to sign - I would walk away. You can also get in touch with the resort. I am sure they get these requests all the time.
