Thanks for the pictures! Nice to see a good amount of progress being made.

That's nice that they made the outside of the original tower look like the new towers. Now how about spending some money making the inside look decent as well! I know some of the upper floors have been renovated the last few year but certainly floors 1 and 2 need it (not sure which other floors have not been done yet).

I wish they would redo the units. I own on the 5th & 3rd floors and the 5th really needs updating. I've heard rumours that some of the workers are staying in the units but this has not been confirmed. We did see lights on in the beach front units. It doesn't make sense to have such a grand new resort and leave a couple of floors untouched.
I don't know what the arrangement is between Riu and our Club.
If those floors are being leased to the Club than I guess Riu does have the option not to renovate. I would imagine that any units that are not owned or being used could be rented out by Riu, but then wouldn't they want them to be as new as the rest of the resort?

Excellent point. Units may be unused, sold and eventually contracts will run out. You'd think they'd as least want them to be respectable for their potential guests.

I sent an email to Debbie asking about the units being used and if Riu had decided to renovate but have not gotten a response. Sent it on Nov.24th.
The 5th floor really needs to be redone. They wanted the owners to pay an assesment(sp) fee but we never heard anything so I guess it didn't go thru. This was before Riu bought the resort.

One of the owners sent a letter to Debby in October and on 10/24 one of the lines in her response was "no plans for renovations of the timehare units (as yet)".

In her response to my note of 11/27 and she said that construction was moving quickly and they hope to re-open late summer 2007 and that information letters will be posted to the members in Feb/March 2007.

Thanks for the info. I had sent an email some time ago and received a response about the units NOT being redone- I was hoping that had changed- still have not received a response, maybe I will try again.

Lindaspooky:

Thanks for the updates. You mentioned in an earlier post you heard rumours about workers staying in the units, but not confirmed. FYI, it has been confirmed that they are staying in the beachfront condos. I confirmed it in July of 2006. Saw it with my own eyes and got it confirmed from security people working the site, beach vendors, and workers and business owners at DePalm pier. That's confirmed. SO they SHOULD renovate the condos.

Now is the time to act. RIU is booking for July 2007 at RIU Aruba Grand. I just went to the RIU site at www.riu.com and followed the Aruba links. Then I checked availability. Looks like they are booking limited rooms from July 1, 2007. Nothing can be booked prior to July 1. And boy is it EXPENSIVE!!! Jr Suite for 2 people for a week (All Inclusive) is between 4 and 7 thousand US Dollars. Crazy. Now it's time for the tough questions because we timeshare folk haven't heard squat from the people at RIU. I just paid for 2 weeks at Costa Linda for 2 weeks in July......if I knew the place was opening up, I'd have waited. But I think they'll open only one building at a time. Ours will probably be the last to open if RUI is going to re-model the condos.

Worth emailing them though at palace.aruba@riu.com to ask questions.

Also, please remember that we do not OWN the units. We are not considered "owners" in the true sense of the word. The property is not deeded to us as owners. We bought a number of weeks for a particular unit each year for a certain number of years. Timeshare purchasers at Aruba Grand have little, if any, property rights...whatever they may be in Aruba.

I would also call Richard and/or Debby. Debby's number is the old one 011-297-5863900. Richard's number is 011-297-5864775.

Thanks,

John, I do remember you posting that the units were being used.

I also just went to the Riu site and put in for Nov. For 2 nights for 2 people all inclusive the price is $1084.00 - as a promotional price. That is the exact price we just paid at the Holiday Inn for 9 nights (room only) I know you can't compare the HI to what the Riu is building but I can't see it being worth that kind of money. At these prices Riu will guarantee a sell out at every other hotel on the island. Maybe if they don't get many bookings they will adjust their rates.

I agree that the prices were high but the prices that were over $5,000. were for single occupancy. I typed an email to that address and it came back as a "fatal error" I will send another email to Debbie and see if she replies.
We really need to have as many club members as possible let them know that we do not like being kept in the dark-JMO. Why can't Riu send out information letters? They never even sent one saying they were the knew owners and what plans they had. I thought Silvermoon was bad- this is worse

Great pictures, loved seeing the view from the Wyndham.

Sorry, it wasn't me that met your parents either.

By the way, I got an email from Raquel today. She sends greetings from Aruba and asked me to say hello to all the owners for her.

Mom could have sworn it was a Lynn or Linda. Oh well, Rum Punch can fix anything! I see another Wisconsinite just posted new pictures too (I think there's not too many of us that get down there). It's interesting to see the changes in just a month!

WOW! Coming along nice. What a monstrocity. Where are they going to park all the vehicles (employees & guests)????

I go on January 11. Might get overheads during a helicopter ride, if I'm brave enough to dare it.

Thanks for the pics.

My dad and one of his buddies took the helicopter tour 3-4 years ago and really enjoyed it, got lots of good pictures. Saw somethings we didn't know were on the island! Including a quite large gravel pit!

John,
You'll love the helicoper ride. I did it a few years ago and it is still one of my favorite Aruba memories.

My husband and I were also wondering about parking. From the pictures it appears the lot is gone.

We were wondering that too. It sort of looked like there was possibly room underneath/on ground level next to where the new drive-up ramp to the front door is. We thought maybe they could have some parking there. But who knows!
