Playa del Carmen- Mexico
After a lot of researching where to go we finally decided on Mexico! We booked a trip to Playa del Carmen, Mexico, which is 45 min South of Cancun. We flew into Cancun on Wednesday morning on Delta direct from Atlanta and stayed until Sunday. The trip to Playa del Carmen was booked through Expedia with Best Day Tour, they were wonderful!

We stayed at the RIU Palace Playa del Carmen it was All Inclusive and unbelievable. We ate too much! After 2-3 days you get a little tired of the food and start seeing repeats, but it was great I said, we ate way too much! Every night you could go to a specialty restaurant, but you have to make reservations a few days in advance.. we did two of those... This hotel was located in an area called Playacar which was like a private subdivision, so we felt very safe. There was even a Starbucks there, but we never went... and my hubby just LOVES starbucks..

We got to take a day tour to the Mayan Ruins of Chichen Itza. It was unbelievable. We also booked this through Best Day Tour which had a desk in the lobby... Very friendly, prompt.. Good drive.. Lunch was included...The vendors were the most annoying part of the trip though, every way you turn someone is approaching you trying to sell you something! We also saw Valladolid and went to a Cenote...

We also spend a day at an Eco-Park called Xcaret we just took a cab there it was like 10 min from the hotel. We relaxed some, ate, and had fun! There was a hurricane in the area, Aida, so that took some of our sun away.. but we still made the best of it! It started raining when we were getting tired so that worked out well.. it was really amazing like a disney water park of some sorts... Xcaret had underwater rivers in caves.. we did one of them which was about 1.5 miles..

We could see Cozumel and the Cruise Ships from our hotel beach.. we had a nice stretch of beach... but they have whalers in do help break the waves. Not quite Aruba, but we had tons of fun... the hotel was outstanding. One day we also did a massage.. the spa was amazing... We wanted to take the scuba class, but it rained that day...

Would go again in a few years... there are other ruins to explore such as Tulum and Coba.. and we couldn't have asked for more for the price... We agreed that this was the perfect place to do AI... but that we wouldn't do it in a place such as Aruba. The service was awesome and since we never did an AI before we tipped a lot.. so make sure to take money for that.. the employees work very hard...
