Wink Re: Sbarro

For those of you looking to get a quality bite to eat while downtown Aruba, the big 'O', Sbarro's is in the strip mall near the Seaport Casino, next to Villa Germania. Food is fresh, very tasty, and priced very right. As I mentioned in my other reviews, some of the resturants around the docks downtown can be iffy at times, and for the stress-less meal, Sbarro's is great, your money is not wasted, and the staff is pleasant.

I don't find Sbarro's a "quality" restaurant.

In the states (I-95 rest area in Maryland), I had the pizza a few times. O.K., not great.

In Aruba I ate at Sbarro's once (my girlfriend's money was running out). I had the lasagna. Worst I have every eaten.

I'd stay home before I ever eat there again.

I forgot to say that I don't ever consider Sbarro's a restaurant. It's a fast food joint to me.

Only good for people that don't know what Italian food should taste like.

We ate their in July - was not impressed. I would call it more of a fastfood place. The guy making the pizza was rude to my wife, and she told him to find a job that he liked.

Exclamation Re: Sbarro

Note - I did not claim Sbarro's to be a resturant, but comparing to the quality of food and $$$ spent for a bite to eat along the downtown marina area, you get a fair meal at a fair price. Many of us avoid the chain style resturants when away, but often they may be the temporary life-saver when resturants you expect to be on their game each day are not. I guess that is why these reviews are here, ya never know when you will get, if the owner/managers are not focused on delivering quality food with great service. I think many of us would like to try various resturants, however when you get bummed out at a couple in same area, you rely on a what I call good bite to eat, Sbarro was okay this last trip which lasted a great two weeks again.

I agree with your last post, tbear. Though we've never eaten at Sbarro in Aruba, we often go to Taco Bell behind La Cabana for the very reasons you've just stated.

Thanks for your added comment, at least our group, who goes to Aruba for two weeks at a stretch, all felt same, otherwise comments would not have been posted.

I tried the one in the airport - first time and last time I'll ever eat there.

I can honestly say that I don't enjoy fast food except for an occasional Subway sandwich or salad so this just wasn't the right choice for me.

I agree Amy. I go to Subway at least a couple times in the three weeks that I'm there, and bring something back for dinner because I get tired of eating out every night. Even Subway tastes better in Aruba then at home!! Could it be the beverage I wash it down with????

So much for Sbarro's and more........ I didn't see Subway in mytravels around the Seaport casino and marina, only time I would venture into either of thos kind of places is when the local joints are failing and all you want is value eats when you are not ready for the main course stuff........ be nice if there was the Amici's or Salt & Pepper's downtown, or similar. Thank heaven Hooter's has not made it to the Resturant Review........ surely someone will want to make everyones day. Sorry I even commented on Sbarro's, my objective was to wake up the resturants that should be going all out, which are local, offering valued meals and upbeat service. Guess having your cake and eating it not gonna fly with most ..... thank heaven for the grocery stores to buy food so you make your own lunches, etc. when conveinent.

As will all restaurants, they each have their good & bad days. I've had a couple stinker meals (& service) at El Gaucho's & I won't return. The same goes for Subway in Aruba. While in Aruba, I'm grateful that we always stay in a room with cooking facilities because as the years go by we generally do 90% of our meals in our room or picnic on the beach. I feel that in recent years, many of the upscale restaurants are falling short of consistent excellence. Just my opinion.

I agree - I think the competition is tough when it comes to satisfying tourists each and every day. Week to week can vary, some places come up short more often than others on a regular basis, some try to maintain the quality they worked at so hard. The bulletin board reviews often provide near term visitors with a guide to resturants based on comments, as well as word of mouth. When with larger groups or family you have to allow flexibility and attend a place you may not want to visit because you already know what the results will be, as with Tony Roma's, where the one party loved it while the rest of the group had disappointed meals, two were returned for incorrect cooking. The reviews are read, as I learned recently, by many resturant owners or their managers, and they ask follow up questions if there are serious negative reports.

Sbarro is OK for a quick piece on the run. I don't consider Sbarro a restaurant.
