Thanks for posting. Now if only Aruba taxi drivers would get their acts together and look more professional. I've gotten into cabs at the airport that look more like pimpmobiles than taxis (zebra print upholstery). I went to Cozumel for the first time this past April and was very impressed with the taxis and drivers there. All were white cabs/vans, clean outside and inside, plainly marked as cabs and numbered; all drivers wearing black slacks and crisp white shirts. Aruba could do well do follow Cozumel's example.

We were in Aruba last week. The ride from the terminal to the Divi was memorable!! The taxi was a mess! It was decrepit, very small, the muffler was deafening, the windows didn't close in the back and the door handle was missing from one rear door! Plus he wanted $23 for the ride! That was OK, however, it was reflected in the tip!!
The ride back at the end of the week was much better. Right price, cab was in excellent condition and the driver was very polite, also reflected in the tip!! For those who were on the island on Nov 1st, there was a rare sunset with the 'green flash!' I had seen it only once before a number of years ago. My wife was a 'yeah, sure' doubter but we were going to eat and I noticed the sun was extremely clear as it sank into the ocean so we paused to wait for its disappearance. Sure enough, just as the top edge of the sun dipped below the horizon, the bright green spot appeared! No more doubting by my wife! She is now a true believer!!

My wife and I have been to Aruba 10 times. We generally travel by taxi where ever we go. Have NEVER had a bad experience. The fares are standardized and fair. We have been in Mercedes...Mini vans..all clean and neat. The drivers are always very accomodating.

The taxis used to be nice and the drivers polite. The prices were well-known and posted. There was no tipping, as locals never tipped. Then, about ten years ago things started changing -- now they put two couples together, charge each one the full fare (or more), have dirty cars and expect to be tipped. We've even had our concierge pull us out of a waiting cab when the driver seemed unusally surly. That's why we now rent a car for the week.

lobe, that is terrible. what i would suggest is that if any driver does that and you hear about it, see if you can find out the taxi number and make sure they are reported. if they charge the wrong amount or do any of the things you said they can lose their licenses and to me that sounds like a good thing to have happen.

Looking at the rates..... I have a question?
What/Why is there a difference between "Lowrise" and "Eagle Beach"? To/from other locations. Quote:

On the chart, it defines "Low Rise Hotels" as Dutch Village to La Quinta and "Eagle Hotels" as Oceania to Amsterdam Manor.

Can't see how things could change for the worse in less than 6 months...we love the taxis...clean, reasonablly priced. Heck, we were picked up by a Lexus...BMW and a Mercedes...
