Default Ahhhhhh.......aruba

Re: let's do a countdown part 2
Mornin all..from hazy, hot, not so sunny right now Aruba!!! We arrived yesterday safe and sound...and I am right at home. We got in about 2 yesterday afternoon to sprinkles and by the time we got to the OC it was thundering and by the time we called it a night at 6:30..(think we were tired) it was an all out storm to beat all storms. But that's okay....I am here. There are some waves today and the wind is pretty much missing. Haven't been to the beach yet....sat and caught up with friends at the pool for a bit before the storm started.
I'm sorry I didn't get to check in before we left..we were with friends from home the night before we left that came to have dinner with us and wish us Happy Birthdays....
Flew Delta this time..I liked it...Ray was a little cramped...but both of our flights arrived on time..and that was with some slight delays...I think they build that stuff into the flight times...right? Coming in on Sunday the lines at immigration was non existent. Hans' assistant was there to give us our car and we were on our way...oh, and I went to the Setar booth at the airport to re-load our phone..easy peasy done. We seem to have this down to an exact science now....lol.
Did I mention I am out on our balcony enjoying my first coffee of the morning? So nice to have the wi-fi now tha allows us the luxury of going outside and type to my friends here and still be able to hear the waterfalls and see the ocean all at the same time. Oh and theres a polis helicopter now too!!! And we now have a pigeon here that has rings around both eyes that looks like the dog from Our Gang..remember him?? lol So great...can you tell I'm happy to be here....away from it all???
Well...gonna drink coffee and get ready to go...gotta eat somewhere and then it's off for groceries...and then...who knows....who cares...I'm in paradise with my sweetie..doing whatever we want....
I will check in again soon....have a great day....and thank you for all the well wishes...they really paid off....
Until later...
A VERY HAPPY RUBA...
P.S. Just wanted to add that we packed up a 36 pack of Coors Light to bring with us because we were allowed 2 free bags apiece (we booked our flights in January before Delta started charging for bags)and I am happy to report that it made it safely too!!! It came in it's own little cooler that you just add ice to and it has handles and all so Ray just packed it real good in cardboard boxes and taped it real good....we just crossed our fingers and hoped for the best....that's all gotta run...

After a not so sunny start to the day...and some ominous clouds...and some sprinkles...it turned out to be a wonderful day!!! There are still waves in the water today..but the sky is blue and the white clouds are back....hopefully for all day....there is little wind right now...but it was lacking early morning yesterday and then picked up for the evening.
We went to Madame Janettes for dinner with good friends and had a wonderful dinner. Had some of the spicy pickled onions.....yum. Had a Cordon Blue/augratin potatoes. Excellent. Good company..good food...I mean come on..it don't get better than that.
Did a little gambling...went to the Alhambra...and the Stellaris. Didn't win at all...but didn't lose a lot...must be careful...there is still alot of time for that...LOL. FYI...don't know if it is permanant or not...but the Key Largo appears to be closed at the moment. If it was mentioned here I missed it or forgot...but our friends wanted to go there last night and we went by it and it was dark. Will let you know it the status changes.
Got in the sea yesterday...it is so different with waves....but it was heaven just the same. Had our first swim in the pool and of course no first day in the pool would be complete without....you guessed it.....SLIPPERY MONKEYS....so I indulged in my first one of this trip.
Today will be a do nothing...have no duties or plans or anything day. Just lay on the beach and take in the splendor.....wish you all were here.
Until tomorrow....

I used to think that taking the laptop on vacation was a hastle...no more, love keeping in touch via skype, facebook, e-mail, etc. from the terrace or pool deck.

Have a wonderful time...(you sound like you are already).

One question...the cordon bleu at MJ's used to be the size of a football, is it still??? Hubs and I couldn't beleive the size when we saw it on someones plate once.

Enjoy!!!

Yes it is...and we each brought half home so we have an entire little football in the fridge to be consumed at another time.

Hello all....well it is now day 5. Sorry I missed yesterday's installment..but we had internet issues that required the tech guy to come to our room and fix it today.
I will start this day's report saying that it is now pooring rain...accompanied with thunder and lightning. The weather is not very favorable this year. And we are hearing it may be another few days before we have any beach or pool time. We were in the sea on Monday...and briefly on Tuesday..and the pool briefly on Tuesday. That's it. The locals are apologizing for the weather...I find that so sweet...but unneccessary...it is not their fault...and no one can change weather. I feel really bad for the honeymooners that are here for a week and have been told that their honeymoon will be safe coming to Aruba...because it never rains in Aruba. Oh...that is not the case this time.
The weather was icky yesterday as well...but we had other things to do so we didn't mind that. We had an early morning presentation for the new point system that Marriott has implemented. We did that and got back to our room and had a message from the Aruban Government telling us they would be coming to give us our Certificate of Distinction (10 or more consecutive visits) and take our picture. We were honored to do this with friends that we have here..they have 20 years...so they are Goodwill Ambassadors.. it was nice to share the ceremony with people we know and love.
After that it was a" don't know what to do now". We don't want to leave the property with the car because the roads are terrible from what we're hearing.... so we ended up going to Moombas for a drink and we had the pleasure of meeting a couple from Kansas City Missouri...hi Jen and Dwayne. It was an early night...came home and ate salad and pizza...and lights out for me.
Did have some luck Wednesday night at the Stellaris...won back most of what I have played so far....but if it keeps raining I don't know if I can keep it....lol.
So today we got internet but satellite tv is out due to weather...and I'm in a bathing suit with the cooler packed and no where to go...so for all that are coming today or in the next few days.....can't promise sun...so could you pack some up and bring it with you....
Talk again soon....

One Happy Island Re: Ahhhhhh.......aruba

Thanks for the catch up. I've been thinking about you every time I check out the cam.

Hopefully, the weather will change for the better... anything's better than what's been going on. That old, "A" rainy day in Aruba's better than a rainy day at home, isn't cutting it 'cause it's raining every day!

"The sun will come out tomorrow!" < I hope>

Well Ruba, I think your request was a first ever, "bring sun to Aruba". Wow, this is so unusual for sure. I would be bummed if I was there, especially since I don't care about going downtown or to any flea markets. Now casino's, I can do that without any trouble. Of course I could always go over to the ABC and visit with Elaine, and drink some Balashi, or wine or whatever. Will keep my fingers crossed you have sun tomorrow.

We are always hearing about the Certificate of Distinction and Goodwill Ambassadors. Does everyone get that, or do you have to be "special". We've been going for close to 20 years....not that it makes a difference, I'm just curious.

I'm praying the sun shines for you soon, or that you continue a lucky streak at the casino. We've had some sunny weather here -- wish I could ship it to you. Well, hopefully after this weekend things will brighten up. Thanks again for the update.

Hi Ruba,
So sorry to hear that the Aruba weather has not cooperated with you. This is so unusual. In 25 years I have never seen more than a little rain in one day---the weather is changing all over the world, but yet we don't expect it to happen in Aruba. I am loving all your reports and I want to thank you for taking time to keep all your friends abreast of our special island IN THE SUN!

Bon Dia from SUNNY Aruba....(for the time being at least..lol). Yesterday was a beautiful start to the day...we were all just floating in the water and thinking.."we have turned the corner".....but alas...out to sea there was an ominous looking cloud just moving it's way around....but we kept thinking that one would stay out there far, far away. Well....no not so much. It struck with a vengence and there was even a hugh bolt of lightnening that struck the Ocean Club.....very scary stuff. There was no warning...no thunder...just "CRACK...BOOM.... and then alot of people scurrying for the inside. We die hards stuck it out and after about an hour or so the sun came back out and it turned out to be a beautiful day. So...when I say it's nice for now...we just don't know what to expect. I did hear yesterday that there are more hurricanes churning..so we just wait and see.
Saturday was our anniversary....we celebrated at Chalet Suisse. Had a wonderful chatuebreand ......... it was awesome. Finished that night with a little gambling at the Stellaris....broke about even..so that is a good night. I do believe it was half way decent weather wise for part of the day but not the whole day. We did go around to see the flooded roads...amazing.
Sunday like I said turned out wonderful....after beach and pool..Ray and I went to Bugaloe for sunset....there wasn't any....but we enjoyed ourselves just the same. The band that played is called the Untouchables....very, very, good. Came home and ate some cheese and crackers...watched some TV and called it a night.
As far as the Certificate and Ambassadors stuff....I am by no means special....it is for all faithful visitors to Aruba...you just have to notify your concierge at wherever you stay and get a form to fill out and they can do the rest. In my case I have a friend here that works at the OC and she was able to hook me up. It is consecutive visits (10 or 20) or more.......I have heard the pictures were in the Diario already....but not in the Aruba Today or the other ones that we get here at the resort.
Now for the weather.....you know you try to keep a positive attitude because you think to yourself....you are in paradise and it could be worse and all that....but after all those days in a row, it does become a little hard to stay happy. It does stifle what you can do....dinner on the beach is out...most of them were closed....just walking up the beach is out...you are very limited to what you can do. Traveling the roads was tricky...so going anywhere to far was out. You get the picture....I'm still hoping to get to Matthews for dinner....and if the weather holds up I will.....tomorrow we go to Cooks....can't wait...we are being picked up at 7:30 by the shuttle.
I will say that all the locals here are feeling just as bad about the weather as we are.....I just wish the visitors would use their common sense when dealing with our hosts. It is not their fault people.....they can do nothing about it...and they are suffering as well. And they are still smiling and doing what they do best....making their guests feel welcome and content. Be kind to them and they will be kind to you. And if they aren't smiling and cordial you can bet they are being abused by some angry visitor or two.
Oh well....I think that is a catch up.....have to get out and feel the Aruba heat and sun....until tomorrow...

Hopefully, you will have nothing but sunshine and warm breezes for the rest of your trip. We will be there on the 3rd and would like the weather to be its usual, normal self. Being from Oklahoma though, we know you cant change the weather. We have had very unusual weather here for the last 3 years as well.

Belated Happy Anniversary! You had my favorite meal at Suisse Chalet. I had that twice in February, and my mouth is watering now just thinking about it.

Hopefully, the weather's turned the corner, and it's all sunshine for the rest of your stay.

If you get to go to Matthews, try Wednesday night... karaoke starts at 9, and it's really a lot of fun.

Give Ommi a biggggggggg hug for me!!

Bon Dia......it is a beautiful day here.....so this will be brief. That and we lost power again about 5 minutes ago so I don't know how long I can type. I heard that they are doing rolling black outs for some reason....grids and whatever...will look into it further today.
Since I posted about Cooks already...I will go on to other stuff.
My birthday was so nice....except for the getting older thing....lol.
Even won a little money....and am doing really good this year at staying even.
Yesterday was a really nice day at the beach......and the water was like the water we are used to...calm, clear, and beautiful....the day before it was grassy and a little more rough. It is starting to look like the days we are so accustomed to.
Made it to Matthew's last night for dinner.....it was very good. And alot of food.....we had the Kabobs....steak and chicken.....brought some home with us. Elaine...Sherry...I passed your hugs on the Ric for you.....it was my pleasure. We didn't stick around too long for karaoke.....it does look like it gets wild....they were Conga-ing for shots of Tequila when we left...looked like fun.
Went to Zizzles for a drink after...and listened to the Untouchables again. I really love their sound. Caught the last few minutes of the dinnershow that they are doing there...called D'Licious...looked like it would be a good show.
Called it a night after that.....we are just about at the end of this trip already....and I can feel the pangs starting....but we still have 3 days that we can enjoy.....so now it off to do just that....have a great day everyone...

Bon dia.......it's raining. Again. That's it.....it raining. It is dreary and raining. Did I mention it's raining??? I feel bad for our friends..they are leaving tomorrow and we were all hoping for one nice day before they left. But I guess we aren't the only ones getting soaked. We will be going home to rain AND cold.....so I won't complain to much...although....for the first time in 11 years..I can actually say I was chilly a few times in the water.....yesterday as we lay on the beach in the clouds and at times rain...I was wrapped in 2 towels because the wind was a bit nippy....and the little nats are t-e-r-r-i-b-l-e !!!!!!! I am pretty bit up this trip too.
So yesterday was pretty much a wash out....felt kinda drowsy and blah....went to Champions for dinner for a change....and went to the Stellaris and gambled a bit. I came out with 50 bucks ahead. I will say that this trip, although it has been damp and rainy......I have had decent luck in the casino. And that is all I will say on the subject so as not to jinx myself for the last two nights....LOL.
So that is yesterdays report in the nutshell.......gonna go sit on the balcony and watch it rain for a bit....if the weather would happen to change soon...I will let you know...
Tick tock.....pretty soon it will be Sunday....and I will be on my way home....I feel it starting......even when it rains here..it still has my heart.....because just like home, we can't change the weather..but we wouldn't move for the world!!!
Have a good day all

Well folks.....bon noche from cold, wet, southwestern PA. Got home really late last night...and we must have brought the wet, dreary weather from Aruba home with us. Yesterday when I woke up and looked out the window I gave it a 50/50 chance of being nice. It spit some rain...then it cleared up...and then when we headed for the airport about 11...it was very dark and ominous once again. It started to rain right after we got into the airport and looked awful the whole time we waited for our flight. I heard from a friend that is still there, and she said it rained all the rest of the day yesterday and was raining yet again today. Now I will back up to Saturday.....it was a glorious day on Aruba that day. You know the kind of day when the sky is blue and the water is warm...and the cement or bricks or whatever is around your pool or resort is nice and hot....I felt so bad, cause one of our couples was leaving and it was so beautiful, and we all know what that feels like when you can't be in the water enjoying the sun and fun because we have to leave. It was a nice day.....and we decided to try a new place that night.....Old Man and the Sea. What a beautiful setting. Absolutely awesome. However, and I will add this note of beware.....if the wind isn't blowing.....which it wasn't that night........do not go there before sunset....or to be safe 8 p.m. I will tell you the mosquitos were terrible...we sat swatting and spraying and nothing helped. My husband started to worry me...he tends to have allergic reactions sometimes...and we don't always know what can trigger it..we thought the spray may have started one. He was literally crawing out of his skin and sweating something terrible. They were kind enough to bring a fan to get the air moving around him....he felt better soon after....but I am here to tell you.....I have some real nasty bites.....and I was just starting to feel better from the bites I got the first week. It kinda put a damper on our dinner...but the food was very good. It was just very hot......and buggy. But we will go back there when the wind is blowing...it really is pretty. Finished that night with a short trip to the casino after a drink at the bar.
This trip was definately a bit different....we didn't get to do things we always do....snorkeling being one.....didn't make it to Baby Beach or Charlies Bar...didn't make it to the northern end of the island...just didn't go out there and do things.....the roads were pretty much a mess most of the times...(not that that stops my hubby) but we just didn't feel like it. I was depressed a little bit of the time....it does get hard on the nerves after that many days of rain....but that is just one of those things. We still had a good time with the friends that we were with....and we know that next year will be wonderful.....cause the weather will be better next year.
Okay..that is my last installment for this year....unless I recall something else....but I hope you enjoyed my reports .... I tried to check in yesterday from the airport...but for some reason I couldn't get hooked up on the computer....and I was not in the mood anyway. That day is always so long.....and sad.
Now the next countdown will begin soon.......but until then..I will be following other people's reports...............so make sure you post everything that is goin on and that you are doing when you go....it really does help.....

great reporting and welcome home honey. you didn't bring the rain. actually you missed most of the east coast rain by trading it for unusual rainy times on aruba.

So sorry the weather was not the normal Aruba weather for your vacation. I probably would have had a hissy fit or two after about the second day of rain.
Thank you for your wonderful reports. Glad you had a safe trip back.

Welcome home, Alnora! Your updates were great...

I can't imagine all the rain you had, and like Gina, I'd have been one unhappy camper.

Sorry you're right back in the "drink," and looks like after tomorrow, it's going to clear up here in PA. I feel like a mushroom already...

Excellent...... And so very appropriate....Speaking of the songs of the Kukoo bus...one of our bartenders at the OC, Wilma, was voted the best bartender on the island and won a contest from Bacardi. She went to Miami to compete for another prize...which she didn't win...but she did get a very nice plaque and a great two day stay. She told me that her song for the competition was "Bacardi".....and if you know anything about the Kukoo Bus you know that is one of the favorite sing-a-long songs. You can also see that on the you tube that Elaine sent. Her Puerto Rican counterparts loved the song....especially the limon part....and if you have seen the actions that go with the song you know why.....LOL

Welcome home Alnora,
I loved receiving your trip reports. I marvel at the fact that although the weather was awful, you remained upbeat. You always had something positive to say. Thank you again for your reports.

I absolutely loved your updates - and I agree, you certainly managed to stay outwardly optimistic no matter how you were feeling on the inside. Sunny disposition in spite of the rain. I, and am sure everyone else, just kept praying the rain would stop for you. But really, seems like it's raining EVERYWHERE!! Elaine, you said it all with feeling like a mushroom already. I don't know what I would have done if I had to deal with the buggy issue. I get severe reactions to bites myself. I think I would have had to leave the restaurant if it was that bad. I actually just purchased a fan to use in Aruba on our patio in case the wind dies down. It's nice and thin, although is about 14" square. And it can also run on batteries. We don't usually experience too many windless days, but you never know.
