Traveler's Checks
We are getting ready for our trip to paradise, and are wondering if traveler's checks are readily acceptable by merchants and restaurants on the island? We went to our local AAA office, and they don't sell them anymore. Are traveler's checks a thing of the past? We want to avoid credit cards. What are our options besides carrying a lot of cash?

Banks and Credit Unions still have Travelers Checks. I have a Crown Account at my bank and I don't have to pay for them. Also, yes, most places take them and if you are worried, you can always cash them at your resort or a casino. My friends just did that when they were there in Feb/Mar. No problems what-so[ever.

---- My bank stopped giving them out free to their good customers for the reasons you said. Think they are just trying to save a $. Yes in Europe they might be hard to make buys with but not in Aruba. Now don't expect shops to accept them for small items if they have to give a lot of $$ back. Every restaurant we go to has accepted them. Your front desk will cash them and casinos also. Casinos might ask for a photo ID. My credit union is still giving them out free.

We always bring Travelers Checks & have never had a problem using them. All the restaurants take them & the casinos cash them without batting an eyelash.
