Going back in January

Ok-so I admit have a need to shop while in Aruba--Jewelry!!
With the high price of gold-any buys there?
Can't wait to go back, love the Tam and the beach-BUT- I like jewelry-don't spend money in the casinos-I like to take something home! So , anyone been there recently-how how the prices?? Thanks bunches!
Also how has the weather been and has the currents in the water been-rough or nice??

Hi Jaydee,
I have always been treated well at Shivas downtown. I go there every year and purchase at least one piece of gold----bracelet, necklace, earrings. I have a beautiful white gold and gold bracelet which is one of my favorites. I especially enjoy wearing any of the following earrings: starfish, sand dollars, sun, and last year's acquisition---combination of seahorse, starfish, sanddollar and shell. Oh I also have a beautiful Australian Opal bracelet from Shivas. It is a family-run store and I deal with Mike. I know the prices are up but I am always treated fairly. I know my gold, and I shop around, but always come back to Shivas.
From what I have read and heard--- the weather has been beautiful, the sea calm, and the beaches grand----I stay right near the Tam at Aruba Beach Club.

Thanks-My cousin who has a time share there for the last 20+ years likes Shivers as well-she works with Larry-I will have to try them again,in the past they offered no "deals",I think because they don't know me-Have dealt with Dazzlers, Noble(in the past) they got very pricey-and others-will try Shivers again- this year I'm looking for a two tone omega and diamond hoops--Thanks

Please try Shiva's once again. Mention your cousin and where she is from. Also mention that you were recommended by Mary from Boston, etc. They always give 'deals.' Oh, I can just 'see' those two tone omega and diamond hoops. Good luck.

Gold in Aruba, the USA or Sweden, it really doesn't matter as gold is sold and traded on a world market and priced accordingly. After living in Aruba for 7 years I finally met and talked at length with some of the owners of jewelry stores and they all pretty much said gold is not a bargain as it's price is set daily based on that days market rate, the real deal in the Caribbean and Aruba are loose stones, precious and semi precious.
That being said it is nice to get a gold bracelet, ring or necklace while in Aruba for a remembrance of that trip, as for it being a steal.....probably not.

Thanks so much for the info. I really expect that given the high price of gold but I was just hoping!! From what I have heard,downtown is not doing very well between the economy and the competition from the MALLS in the high rise area-I guess I'll just have to spend more time on the beach--not bad!
