Seroe Colarado Plans

I have been trying so hard to get a update on what improvements are planed for the Seroe Colarado Area ? And when will this take place?

I guess every one is in the dark about this, or there are no plans to inprove Seroe Colarado area. Ah well.

Slowly but surely houses are being bought from the gov't in Seroe Colorado, something the gov't waited too long to do. The ones that have been bought look very nice with the extensive remodeling the new owners have done......hopefully this momentum will keep up. Back in the 90's my Aruban husband and Itried to buy one of the houes but the gov't wasn't interested, took them another 10 years before I noticed one or two had finally been allowed to be sold. It's a great area and I hope it comes back strong !

Yes hope so too. Lovely area. Is it true it used to have a problem with snakes? or was it false romours?

From what I understand, you need to put your name on a waiting list to purchase one. Also They will go to locals first. Whether or not the new owners will be able to re-sell them , I don't know, but I doubt it. I also know the list is a mile long. I certainly would love to have one.
Anyways, just what I've heard. I can't verify this info ,but I think it's close. Just glad they are bringing them back. it is a beautiful slice of the Island.

I think since the political parties changed there will be a delay in this also.. I am still not sure about it all.. I am all for redeveloping that area for housing... but not quite fond of having a hotel next to Baby Beach.... but this has died down just like the plans for the Ritz Carlton has...

i totally agree. i think the new government is thinking greener and doesn't want aruba damaged by more construction. i really praise them for this along with a bunch of other changes i have seen.

Me too let's hope they continue on the right path.. I was disappointed in a hotel at Baby Beach... now getting some nice subdivisions in Seroe Colorado, absolutely.. I've always eye balled the house at the end that overlooks Baby Beach...

As an aside on this topic:
I rented a place there many years ago while I was building my home, and yes, there are snakes.

I've said this before and I'll say it again - I think the best plan for a hotel in Seroe Colorado would be a low rise (2 story max.) hotel on the spit of land in between Baby Lagoon (we never called it Baby Beach) and Rodgers Beach, more or less where the old Esso Club sits now. It could be built so that the rooms face away from the refinery and it wouldn't take over and privatize either Baby Lagoon or Rodgers Beach, nor would it deface Colorado Point (as would one of the proposed hotels).

I am also a big advocate of re-developing the entire region as a residential area. I doubt that the atmosphere of the old colony could ever be recreated but a new and vibrant Seroe Colorado might be even better.

There are snakes.. but those come around the whole island... not just one specific area...

We just returned from Aruba. While there we always stop at Coco Beach Restaurant at Rogers Beach for a quick bite and a Balashi after an outback trip or a few warm hours at Baby beach. Much to our surprise it was gone! Torn right down and the area behind it bulldozed! We inquired and were told there are plans to build condo's maybe. Too bad, it was a great place to stop for a cold Balashi.

Yes, we used to go to Coco Beach Restaurant all the time. We loved that place!! For years we wished there was a place by Baby Beach to eat/drink and then Coco Beach Rest appeared. Hooray! Then last year in March we were all counting on a steak sandwich and a Balashi, and poof! Gone. It was a great place, but I have to admit it was never crowded - not even real busy most of the time. Condos huh?

At the dive shop there is now a bar, new restrooms, more renos being done.

I think they may officially open as the 'new' Esso Club. A few photos of the 'old' Esso Club on the walls.

That's good to hear! When it was Nanki Country Club I went to some awesome parties... mom did too way back in her days...

I was also saddened to see Coco Beach go.. remember when I was in HS I used to go to Rodgers Beach for PE and we used that spot to change...

I would hate condo's to be built there! Nice spot, but that should not be used for condo's....

They also wanted to put condo's where Brisas del Mar was.. that's an awful spot imho....

Don't know if this is interesting or not... it was to us. After the surprise of Coco being torn down we wen't over to the dive shop to the new little bar for a Balashi. While there 3 gentlemen walked to the bar speaking with a local and sat beside us. After the local guy left we got into a conversation like; is it your 1st trip to Aruba, like the weather and so on. They were 3 brothers that grew up in the 50's and 60' in the Exxon/Lago Oil Refinery community. Their Dad was an executive at the refinery. We were there talking for quite a while and the stories they told about the 'hey day' of the community were really something. I said to one of the brothers, "what a time that must have been." His reply was telling, he said, "It was better than that!" He said they did suffer some consequences of the Aruba life, some with skin cancer and liver problems. The drinking among [all of the] teens, American, Dutch etc. was bordering out of control and the parties., big and small were something they will never forget.

They were there organizing a reunion of the friends from that time. they have had a couple of reunions in past years and more than 400 attended. I would love to listen to the stories at that party!
