Default Where do you like to eat after a long day of flying?

There are so many amazing restaurants in Aruba that it's hard to narrow the list down to 7 for our weeklong trips. My question for the board is:
where do you like to eat after a long day of flying?

We usually end up eating at Moomba's or the Hyatt Palms -which is okay but not certainly not the most memorable meal of the trip. What is your usual hangout for the first night in Aruba?

This year I'm thinking about the Pelican's Nest, King Ribs (if it's open), or Jamaica Me Krazy.

First, we go to Happy Hour at the LaCabana pool. After that,we grab something at the Islander Grill by the pool, because we can't drive!

Smokey Joe's for me. Those ribs really hit the spot, and it's just so nice sitting outside that first night. I start with a Grandma Joe's Pink Lemonade, and if we're really hungry we'll share an order of the shark bites to start. Then it's on to the ribs and beer (Bright and/or Balashi).

If you like spicy, Smokey Joe's has jerk ribs and their Signature Sauce has a kick to it. I always get a combination of the two. It's not on their menu, but they're always good enough to do it for me.

If you don't like spicy, their Original Sauce is very good too.

Bingo for us. We can get either a real 'dinner' or a burger or salad. The food is great and the staff is wonderful. It's cool, and comfortable, and it's a bar -- which is what we really need after whatever the airline has done to us.

Default We like to pick a place to take the food out and eat in the room and crash

But, for eating out, Smokey Joe's. Casual, relaxing, great food.

I Love Aruba Re: Where do you like to eat after a long day of flying?

Normally Subway. My day starts early, and ends late. Between getting into my unit, food shopping, unpacking everything and putting it away, I'm content to walk across the street, eat something, stroll back to my unit.... spend some time on my balcony with drink in hand happy to be back in paradise.

Tulips for us...#1 for the Sangria, #2 for the great cheap food, #3 the proximity from LaCabana, #4 the only good place to walk to after Happy Hour at the Pool Bar...(gotta try it Corrine...staggering up the street , LOL).

We actually started doing S&P's but that's a bus ride away...since Tulips has been there we now go to the closer one (and the Sangria is only 14.00 a pitcher)!!!

Bingo gets my vote as well! Greatest staff on the island, food is outstanding & it's casual enough for those of us that don't want to get "fancy schmancy" after a full day, lol!

After a very long day of travel and anticipation my first dinner on the Island has always been a slab of ribs at Tony Romas. I know rib joints have sprung up all over the Island but I just can't break tradition. March 9th can't get here quick enough.

We are always tired and never feel like going anywhere on our first night in Aruba. We always stop by Kings Ribs on the way to The Marroitt and get some takeout. We get a bottle of wine, sit on our balcony eat and watch the sun go down. We will be there July 6th!!!!

After getting out of bed at 3 or 4 AM, with very little if any sleep, and getting to Atlanta airport and going through check-in and customs and security, the flight ( around 4 hours), going through all the Aruba airport stuff, getting a taxi and getting to the resort, checking-in at the resort, and unpacking, when it is time for "dinner" as long as I don't have to prepare the meal, I will eat any place on the entire island!!!!!
Really folks, it is NOT really that bad. It is just a long day, but all worth it in the end.

We used to love Eleonora's for the 1st night. (now closed)
My husband and son loved Tony Roma's for 1st night but that stopped after my loud protesting a few years ago.
So, Tulip has been our first dinner on island lately.

When staying at the Ren it's Iguana Joe's, and when staying at Costa Linda it's the Turtle's Nest - for the same reasons Corrine gave. First night should be an easy one with no driving, along with a cocktail (or 6)

My worst idea was getting up at 5am and flying in and then that night driving out to the Flying Fishbone and THEN wait for the Light Parade in town.......... Exhausting and dumb!

After leaving home at 8pm the night pacific time..flying all night,we get into Aruba about 2:00 pm the following afternoon. By that time we don't want to go anywhere. The first thing I do is go to the Bar and order a foofoo drink and that will usally have a 151 floater on top. Just a wonderful way to start my vacation. If we get hungry we will usually just eat at the restaruant where were staying at. We try to keep it low key on the day we land.

We stay downtown so our first place to eat is Que Pasa. It's just 2 blocks from our hotel and when I get there I feel like I'm finally on the island. We are lucky as we live in Atlanta and the flight is only 4 hours so we don't have a long day getting to Aruba. Just 8 weeks and I'm there!

One Happy Island Re: Where do you like to eat after a long day of flying?

We usually end up at Salt N Pepper with some great sangria. We can walk there because we always stay at the Westin (previously a Wyndham). If you want something a little nicer than that, there's always Aqua Grill (a little noisy though because of its high cielings, but good food and our waiter the last 2 years was great!).

I like to go to The Sultan, a shoarma joint that is located in country from the airport. Plenty of food, lots of garlic, and great airco. Will be posting photos on my blog this afternoon, 11 July.

We always take a early flight, so we arrive between noon and 1pm. We've been going to Iguana Joe's and then we walk around in the shops, etc. Then head down to check-in at the SC. Last 2 trips, we were so pooped at the end of the day I don't think we ate a real dinner. Just passed out around 8pm.

We expect to do the same for our trip in November, at least Iguana Joe's for lunch that is.

I never heard of Bingo's...

Mzade & fly Jet Blue. & I'm sorry, chips do not a meal make. & quite frankly when we flew AA we didn't eat much anyway, so it's basically a meal deprived day. So we run out for an early dinner at Texas De Brazil's where we can load up vast quantities of tasty nutrients. If we arrive early enough for lunch then we grab a quick salad someplace near the hotel. We like Tulips so maybe that will be it.
Maybe we'll check out this mysterious Bingo's.

Default I no where bingo is at.

if you never ate at bingos you are missing out on, great food, cheap prices and the best service on the island. Bingos is located behind the high rises.
on the same road as mcdonalds and aqua . Just pass mc donalds at the light. Go though the light. When you come to the gas station on the left bingo is next door. Linda pancakes is in one end of the building, bingos in the other. You will love the food. Ask to meet the owners they are so nice. Another good place is cooks down town behind the rad. Hotel. Cooks was new last year. Again good service, excellent food & presentaion and good prices. They usally have an add in the paper. Sorry my spelling sucks.

I am making my first trip to Aruba in 2009 to the Divi Phoenix. I will be drinking on the flight which arrives at about 2 pm and by the time I check in it will be 3 or 4 pm. A couple of drinks at the pool and I should walk to where? Is Bingos in walking distance? I know I will want somewhere near the room for supper the first night and looking for expert advice.

you will love the phoenix, lol. they make some great drinks,

bingo's is a bit far to walk with a few drinks under your belt. i might suggest just walking to the beach side of the phoenix and turning toward the high rise hotels. it is the short way to get up beach. there will be a few places on the beach and if you go thru the lobby of some of the hotels or playa linda, you will find several restaurants facing you across the street. salt and pepper, smokey joe's, casa tua, fishes and more and a few others.

Yes, it is with-in walking distance from where your staying. Or a short cab drive. Depending on how you are walking in the heat. I guess, i would cab there walk back when it is cooler outside.

Ok, adding a cab ride option to the walking distance plan, the first night choice should be where? Bingos? I am looking for good food in a friendly relaxed atmosphere. I will not be dressing up the first night (actually probably not all week), so shorts, t-shirt, and a memorable meal possibly with a sunset thrown in.

Thanks,

Tom

yes it is an excellent option. it is relaxed, good drinks, great food in many price ranges and casual is a must. however, there is no sunset there so plan to see the sunset around 7 pm and then go there or eat early and get back to the beach. there is no more perfect place to watch a sunset than the phoenix.

now, back to the beach for us.

Pizza hut is out. It is not near you. You can walk along the beach (all side walks) there are tons of places to eat. Once you get to the hyatt or playa linda go to the front of the hotels and across the street. Also a ton of places to eat. Smokie joes (ribs) and hooters (great grubber sandwhich) is one that we visit all the time. You do not need to cab at all. But you must visit bingo's while you are there. Is this your first time in aruba. Consider renting a car for a few days. There are some great place to eat. But you need a car. It cost to much by cab. This is our ninth year. We love it there.
