Its very refreshing to be able to think and write about something else right now...my focus has and will be on Natalee until she is found safe...anyway, we are owners and LOVE it. Started with 1 week and now I'm up to 4! Great place to bring kids of all ages. We love our room(s) and do not regret buying there at all. We've stayed in Palm Beach 2x's and in town at the Ren. Ocean Suites once and really really like being in the Eagle Beach area. We jump on the bus everytime we want to go somewhere. People will give you different opinions on the restaurnats but we just came back 2 weeks ago and enjoyed every meal we had there...we do prefer to go outside the resort for our dinners though! We went food shopping and eat breakfast and/or lunch in our room..alot...its great convienence. They have the convection oven, stove top, micro, blender, juicer, etc...every convienence of home. Even snuck in a load of laundry one morning while hubby was still sleeping, so we can home with clean cloths. I have no cons...just pros! My problem 2 weeks ago had to do with Mother Nature...not LaCabana (no wind due to a tropical depression in Venz...it was hot hot hot)

P.S. Welcome to our little (well not so little) family...what unit did you buy?

I am just sick about Natalee too & can't imagine how this all happened!
We didn't buy a unit---we have the points system we should have enough for about 3 weeks normally but we are bringing our kids this year for 5 days then they will go home & we will stay for 9 or 10 more days so we ended up borrowing from next years points to do it. I think the units we tenetively have are 309, 311, 317 & 327 between us, our kids & the couple we usually travel with. I think they are all studios. We plan to do breakfast/lunch most days in the rooms like you did & enjoy all our favorite restaurants & casinos at nite. We will probably rent cars, but I don't know for sure yet. We normally stayed at the high rises & walked to most places in prior years until we bought in February.
When do you usually go?????? I am ready to go again right now, but unless I make a big lottery hit I have to wait unit January
I am new to this board & enjoying the posts, thanks for getting back to me so quick.

We have week 20 (just got back) and weeks 45, 46 & 47. We will go for 45 but I rented 46 & 47 out this year. We will see how 2006 goes then I can do what you do...stay 45-47 and send the kids home after week 45...that won't happen though..our youngest is only 13 (w/b 14 by then)...Oh well. We have a 2 bedroom lockout for 45 (studio w/1 bedroom adjoining) (also on the 3rd floor) and studios the other weeks (2nd floor and 4th floor)...I LOVE THE STUDIO. Prefer to stay in that unit when its just hubby and myself. Its open and airy. When we take the whole tribe we usually occupy the 1 bdrm and spread the kids out over the sofa beds and murphy beds. I always leave the ajoining door open and latch with the chair our bedroom door so everyone must enter thru the studio...Its worked out perfect for us. This year we actually need 1 or 2 more rooms...working on 1...now gotta get 1 more. Every year our "party" gets bigger and bigger! I have no idea how that point systems works...but having SET weeks works for me (and my boss). I prefer to know i'm going this date, this date and this date. I'm actually confused at the whole point system thing...but don't even want to know (I think). See i'm confused! Well it sounds like you've toured the resort enough to know it...I would be happy sleeping on a park bench as long as its in Aruba...but since that can't happen I'm glad we chose LaCabana!

I agree about the park bench, I'd go any time & stay almost anywhere. Out youngest is 13 too, but the old kids are 21, 24 & 26 so while I will be a little nervous sending him home with them I will do it. My daughter who is 24 will be incharge of him & she knows what I expect. The points aren't that hard I don't think anyway. We will probably always use basically the same weeks every year, mid january thru beginning of Feb. They weren't offering the time share weeks when we bought in Feb, I got the impression that they don't offer that anymore.

They claim they are sold out...so don't be surprised if you are in different units each time. They will fit you in where they have availablity!

Well when we made the reservations last month, they said they weren't supposed to give us room #'s but they did. We may or may not get those rooms, we'll find out when we get there. We are leary about all this but we bought the points so we will use them---they cost enough money I just hope it turns out to be worth it. I know the whole island was basically sold out when we were there last (January 2005) & we almost didn't find a place to stay. I know when we go it is high season so that limits availability too.

No need to feel leery, hooked! I have a timeshare and when I want to rent extra nights, they dont tell me the room#s either. Like Elisabeth said, they wait to see availability. It is possible you will get a different room#, but they will try hard to please you! LaCabana has an excellent staff!

We've still got 6 1/2 months or so.............I'm dyin' here!!! So far all the reports we've gotten are good about La Cabana, so we're starting to relax about it now. We're just neofite (sp) vacation owners, I think we'll be ok once we go to La Cabana with our plan. The other times we've gone we were on Palm Beach at the high rises.

Casey,
We will be in Aruba from January 12th thru the 26th or 29th (I can't remember) & our kids will be with us from the 12th - 18th. Maybe we will see each other there. When the time gets closer we'll have to plan to meet up at the pool or something!! This will be our first year as owners too, we're looking forward to going but also don't know what to expect. When we were there last January deciding (to buy or not) we saw lots of kids---we were there several times checking things out.

We have owned at LaCabana for 4 years. We have a studio and it has everything we need. One year, our girls (age 21 at the time) came down with us. It was a little tight, but we spend very little time in the room; Sleep, shower, and change clothes. The units are well equipped. We used only the coffee maker, oven (to reheat pizza) and the refrigerator. You could, if you wanted make all your meals there.

Staff is friendly. The pool and the pool bar is good. I prefer the beach, You just cross the street to the beach, no big deal for us.

Enjoy,
Bob

One Happy Island Re: New La Cabana Vacation Owners

hey guys....lacabana is a great family orientated place....studios are small....me and my boyfriend have been there about 8 times in the past 5 yrs....i usually get cheap rentals either through Interval, or from sky auction ......also have stayed at casa del mar and paradise beach villas...(thats what i prefer, Paradise)...cdm is also great.....only twice have i stayed with my son(2yrs at the time) very family friendly...the studios are too small i think, for anyone more than a couple....definately go for at least a one bedroom, the amenities are better in the one bedroom...and as far as "sell out" for jan, feb, march, and april...guess again...the "hottest" time of the year is xmas...other than that....you can ALWAYs find deals on timeshare rentals...the most i've ever paid to rent a one bedroom for 7days is $500.00, go through all the bulletin boards....also classified ads for aruba....someone is always selling.....as of today airfare from boston to aruba was 279 round trip.....good luck...aruba is wonderful!

that fare is with out taxes and security(9/11) fees.
add about $115 to that and there is the actual fare.
with one stop or more, it is more expensive as there are landing fees
that are added into the mix.

I Love Aruba Re: New La Cabana Vacation Owners

hello...i'm not sure where you're getting your info...but i just again at 8:35pm on wed july 27th went on travelocity and once again pulled up the fare from bost to aruba....heres an actual print out of a ticket with flights and full info.....ready?????????????..........us airways flight 285 depart boston, ma sunday nov 6th at 7:20am....nonstop arrive aruba sun nov 6th(same day...few hours later) at 1:04pm.....depart aruba....usairways flight 978 on boeing 757 jet nov 14 at 4:30 pm stops in charlotte, nc...at 7:35pm.....departs charlotte nc at 9:15pm and arrives boston ma nov14th at 11:13pm....full price including taxes and all the extra blah blahs.....total us dollars is $331.00......there are tons of these deals out there...you just have to have alerts on your email and keep up with them.....we usually pay about 350 total from providence, ri only because i'd prefer not to drive to boston and go through all that traffic....also parking in boston with your car you have to add about $95 more for the extended parking....so leaving from pvd....and doing the same with parking...it only cost $47.50 for a week in pvd to park.....hope this helps..........just to let you know we go to the caribbean at least 3 weeks each year....we prefer aruba....hands down....but if a deal at that particular moment isn't available...we go else where...we have never spend over $1000.00 for room and 2 plane tickets for seven days.....and we also have never stayed in a studio...always at least a one bedroom timeshare....usually in pbv, lacabana, divi, or cdm.....deals are usually are out there if you know where to look....i realize that everyone is trying to make money on their timeshare that they aren't using or have invested in just to make a living out of rentals....but if you're smart...and know what the trends are....timeshares are not a wise investment......they are always for sale...due to poor health....due to not having enough $$ at the moment...due to babies coming along...due to college .....due to anything and everything that can possibly arise...does.....so therefore if you're patient and want a deal...it takes time to find them...but most timeshare rentals are cheaper by going through agencies, verses bulletin boards.....and that my friends is a fact....any questions feel free to email me.. capecodlobster@comcast.net
